PROCEDURES: (continued)- each team or participant will have a maximum or two attempts (3 if only a few participants enter.)Event5. The first participant will then start and be timed. When half way through another boat can be started. Each will be timed and the times entered on the blackboard for quick reference.6. A red star will be drawn next to the leading time.7. When each participant has had two attempats or the event duration is up, the event will be closed.Conclusion8. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: RUNNING THE SHERATON/REGENT REGATTASTANDARD: A KNOWLEDGE OF THE EVENT AND THE STAGES AND SKILLS NEEDED TO PRODUCE IT.PROCEDURE:The event would be in four stages Preparation, Introduction and race meeting, Event, Conclusion.1. PreparationThis event must be prepared in a number of ways. The day before, the Regent will be contacted and reminded of the time and place. An hour before ,our 3 Hobies will be rigged on the beach, the boats having been allocated to guests previously on a first come first served basis.The chase boat will be taken out an hour before to set up the triangular course. The start line may be between reach or beat depending on skill of competitors.The race meeting will be prepared in advance so as to give all the information required. Life jackets will also be available.2. Introduction and race meetingThis will be designed to give out all information that guests will need to take part.- length of races, and number.- avoidance of collisions.- points system.- start procedures and sequence.- finish procedures.- capsizing and other hazard.PROCEDURES: (continued)All questions will be answered and names and boat numbers will be double checked. A special welcome will be extended to all Regent participants.3. The EventAll participants will then sail out to start.Spectators can be carried out to the platform. When all boats are in ear-shot the first signal will be given and the others will follow the sequence. After starting, the organizers will have the chase boat ready in case of any problems.4. ConclusionWhen all races are completed, the boats will all head ashore where the beach attendants will help recover them. All boats will be returned neatly to their positions and all equipment will be carried back and stored.The guests will be encouraged to congregate for the results and prize giving. The winner and loser will receive prizes. Before leaving, the Regent guests will receive our thanks and an attendant will sum up with a few words.SHERATON / REGENT HOBIE REGATTAINFORMATION1. The activity duration is 1 1/2 hours.2. The series consists of 3 races, each lasting 20 minutes.3. Safety of participants and observers will be of prime importance, and all necessary safety procedures will be observed. A safety boat will be on constant alert.4. The start will be on the water between an anchored start boat and a regatta buoy. The start sequence will be:6 minutes horn3 minutes horn1 minute horn 30 seconds whistleCountdownStart hornRecall additional hornNO FLAGS WILL BE NECESSARY5. The start will be on a reach unless competitors are particularly competent.6. All potential hazards, reefs or obstructions will be pointed out in the pre race meeting.7. The course will be a simple triangular course, including a beat, reach and run. The finish can be on a beat or run depending on conditions and participants.8. On finishing, boats will be asked to remain close to the start boat in preparation for the start of the next race.9. Points will be given for each finisher as follows:1 st 3/4 point2 nd 2 points3 rd 3 points etc.UNTIL:Non finisher the total number of boats plus two points.10. Only Hobie 14s will be allowed to race. They may carry any number of people but only one sail.PROCEDURES: (continued)11. The emphasis will be on enjoyment and the fun element will be stressed. Spectators will be encouraged, and they can view from anchored craft, the floating dock, motor boats, and canoes or from the beach.12. The event must have a conclusion of some sort, preferably a prize giving. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: DOING THE HOBIE JOYRIDE ACTIVITYSTANDARD: ALL STAFF WILL KNOW HOW TO SAIL SAFELY AND BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THIS ACTIVITY EFFICIENTLY.PROCEDURE:This activity is for either adults or children, and is scheduled at differing times in the week. It is a one hour event. The number of attendants needed will vary with the number of participants. The only equipment needed is Hobie Cats and lifejackets.Preparation1. Make sure guests know the event is to take place and what it involves. Ensure equipment is ready well before event commencement.Introduction 2. Introduce yourself and the other instructor and explain what will follow.Each person, pair or group will be taken out for 15 20 minute ride in Hobie Cat with an instructor. It is non instructional and simply aimed at being a fun introduction to sailing.Explain that guests may have to wait on the beach for their turn, or come back at their allocated time.PROCEDURES: (continued)The Event1. One instructor per Hobie cat Trips to be mostly reaching and speed sailing. Trip must be safe and enjoyable.The time must be adhered to so as to allow equal time to each guest.Conclusion2. After each sail, thank the guest and explain that if they want further sailing or lessons, to contact the activities desk or beach bure.The stress must be on safety at all times and maximum enjoyment.STANDARDS AND PROCEDURESDEPARTMENT: ACTIVITIES JOB CATEGORY: TOUR DESK ATTENDANTHEAD: G.M. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: SETTING UP THE VOLLEYBALL AND KNOWING THE THEMESSTANDARD: ALL STAFF SHOULD BE ABLE TO PLAY, ORGANIZE, AND REFEREE A VOLLEYBALL COMPETITION.PROCEDURE:Volleyball operates on a daily basis for one hour at 4.30 p.m. One member of staff is sufficient to organize and complete a competition.Equipment needed Volleyball, chalk, Blackboard.1. The themes used are as follows:a) Open event simply a game or a series of games to promote enjoyment and group participation.b) Volleyball challenge a specific team against another. For example Parents versus Offspring, Australia vs. the rest of the world or battle of the sexes.c) The Sheraton Fiji team volleyball competition where participants are put into equal teams of six people and a tournament is arranged using the blackboard. It can be a knockout or league system.1. Whatever theme is used the organizing should be a standard system. Guests nearby will be encouraged to join in . the attendant will introduce himself/herself. The rules will be simply explained ie.number of hits etc. The game will then progress with the attendant either joining in or refereeing.2. In the event of a tournament, the attendant will not join in but will referee and keep track of matches from the sidelines.3. In the end of a tournament, the winners will be announced by the attendant. This will serve as a conclusion to the events.The emphasis should be on fun and maximum participation.STANDARDS AND PROCEDURESDEPARTMENT: ACTIVITIES JOB CATEGORY: TOUR DESK ATTENDANTHEAD: G.M. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: THE ORGANIZATION OF MINI - TOURNAMENTSSTANDARD: EACH MEMBER OF STAFF WILL KNOW THE DIFFERENT WAYS OF ORGANIZING THE TOURNAMENTS AND WILL BE ABLE TO CARRY THEM OUTPROCEDURE:The mini tournaments to be offered will include:- A scrabble tournament.- Darts,- Soccer.- Petanque.- Table tennis.- Trivial Pursuit etc.Depending on the number of people participating, each tournament will have to have a different format for each eventuality. In general though, the event must be fun, must receive a definite beginning and end, and must be visibly scored. Some of the choices in each tournament are as follows:-1. Scrabble this event could be a knockout tournament with a draw made for who plays who. It could also be a team event with four or five in a team. Finally it could be a mass event with one group against another.2. Darts Tournament this could be organized a number of ways. One way is to have all participants names at the top and one to ten written down the left hand side. Each person would then have ten goes at a maximum score. After each throw the score would be added to the last producing a continuous score system. After ten goes, the winner would be the one with the hig score. If too many people show up, this could be good elimination system.Another way is to have a team event, a round the clock event or “301.”PROCEDURES: (continued)1. Soccer this event should be easy enough to arrange into one game. If too may people show up, it can be a knock out tournament or such like.2. Petanque this event could take many forms. It is played in the same way as bowls, but instead of rolling the balls, they are thrown underarm. To create an atmosphere, the attendant could get some fresh music on a tape, and could wear a french outfit with beret. Bread and cheese could also be made available. It could be organized in a knockout or team format such as team A against team B with individual matches bringing in team points.3. Table tennis this could be organized similar to the others with team events in the case of lots of participants, or using a knockout or league system for less people. Games could be shortened if necessary to 10 or 15 points.4. Trivial Pursuit teams could be organized into tables and a number of rounds could be organized. For example.round 1 questions to all.round 2 team questions.round 3 childrens questions,round 4 female question/male question.round 5 mastermind format.round 6 final competitive round.Scores would be kept at all times and encouragement given.Each mini tournament will be organized tightly and effectively with equipment ready beforehand , guests aware of the rules, and the competition being easy to follow. Care must be taken to prepare beforehand.STANDARDS AND PROCEDURESDEPARTMENT: ACTIVITIES JOB CATEGORY: TOUR DESK ATTENDANTHEAD: G.M. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: TAKING THE MORNING JOG OR WALKSTANDARD: EACH ATTENDANT MUST BE FIT ENOUGH TO CARRY IT OUT WITH EASE AND BE ENTERTAINING ENOUGH TO MAKE IT ENJOYABLE.PROCEDURE:The morning jog or walk will be preceded by the pre stretch. This will be held near the pool or on the beach. The meeting placed for the activity is the main pool at 7.30 a. m. for adults and at 8.30 a.m. for children. Duration of the activity is one hour.The types of morning activity:The activity can take 3 forms for adults:1. Morning beach jog2. Morning beach walk.3. Scenic morning walk around the property.For children, the activity could be any of the following:4. Morning beach jog.5. Morning beach walk.6. Exploring the property.7. Shell hunting.8. Childrens meeting.PROCEDURES: (continued)Things to be aware of:Beach Jog:For the beach jog, the instructor should be aware of everyones needs and set of medium pace. He should check all guests are OK at intervals. If necessary, a pulse check should be made along the way.Beach Walk:For the beach walk, the instructor should again keep a medium pace and engage individually. Informality should be stressed.The scenic walk around the property should be similar to the beach walk, but specific places of interest should be pointed out. This would be the same with the childrens “exploring the property activity.”Shell hunting:This is a childrens activity and would involve walking along the beach. Shells would be kept and compared at the end of the walk.Childrens meeting:This activity is aimed at preparing for the talent show in the evening. The idea is to encourage children to participate and to suggest ways in which they might contribute. The show should be made into a programme and rehearsed in the early morning hour.STANDARDS AND PROCEDURESDEPARTMENT: ACTIVITIES JOB CATEGORY: TOUR DESK ATTENDANTHEAD: G. M. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: CARRYING OUT THE PRE STRETCH CLASSSTANDARD: THE INSTRUCTOR MUST INSTRUCT CLEARLY, BE CONTINUOUS, AND PROMOTE ENJOYMENT OF THE ACTIVITY. THE STRETCHES MUST BE DONE BY THE INSTRUCTOR.PROCEDURE:Stretching is vital for getting blood into the muscles and ensuring against pulling or straining. The pre stretch takes place before the morning jog or walk and is available for children or adults. Care must be taken in taking a stretch activity in the following way:1. All stretches should be done gradually.2. No forcing or jerking of the body is to be encouraged.3. The sides of the body should be stretched equally.4. Breathing should continue as normal and no holding of breath should be encouraged.5. Each individual should do each stretch to their own ability and should not compete any previous accidents or disabilities guests have had should be taken into consideration.After getting a group together the instructor will introduce himself and explain that he will be doing a few simple stretches before the activity and he would like all guests to join in and copy the movements. It should be explained that the stretches are designed to alleviate any muscle soreness or potential damage which may occur during the jog or walk.The stretches will take 10 to 15 minutes and will cover the following areas :6. Neck.7. Upper back and chest.PROCEDURES: (continued)8. Arms and sides,9. Abdominals.10. Quads and hamstrings.11. Calves and anles.12. Breathing.Attention should be given to each area and it should be pointed out to the guest what area is being stretched. Upon completion, the jog or walk can commence.STANDARDS AND PROCEDURESDEPARTMENT: ACTIVITIES JOB CATEGORY: TOUR DESK ATTENDANTHEAD: G. M. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: KNOWLEDGE OF THE CHILDRENS PROGRAMMESSTANDARD: ALL STAFF MUST KNOW THE CHILDRENS ACTIVITIES, TIMES, AND FORMAT. THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO HELP OR ORGANIZE EACH ACTIVITY.PROCEDURE:ALL STAFF MUST KNOW - -1. The programmes form and duration, a handout will be given.2. The special activities programme and each activity-handouts again will be given.3. The number of attendants needed for each activity and the basic requirements of each task.4. The handouts will be kept and staff should learn what the activities mean and at what times each event will be held.5. A verbal test will be given.The daily activity list are non-changeable. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: CHILDRENS MORNING JOG, WALK, SHELL HUNT OR OTHER MORNING EVENTSTANDARD: PROCEDURE:STANDARDS AND PROCEDURESDEPARTMENT: ACTIVITIES JOB CATEGORY: TOUR DESK ATTENDANTHEAD: G. M. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: CHILDRENS SWIMMING LESSONS AND GAMES ACTIVITYSTANDARD: ALL STAFF MUST BE AWARE OF SAFETY IN THIS EVENT AND BE ABLE TO IMPROVISE ACTIVITIES FOR DIFFERENT AGESPROCEDURE:The main emphasis in this event must be safety, Buoyancy jackets must be available, as must a pole for rescue. Noise must be kept low.The event occurs initially four times a week and lasts for one hour.The format is as follows:1. Introduce yourself and ask for all the names of the children, (write them down if necessary). Ask each child how much swimming they have down, what is their best stroke, can they dive? etc. This is designed to put them at ease and for them to get to know you quickly. Give buoyancy aids to those who need them.2. Ask the children to jump or dive into the water. The instructor will stay on the side of the pool at all times for safety reasons. (Before diving in, the instructor may wish to get to group to do a few simple stretches).3. To warm up, each child will be asked to swim either two lengths, or two widths, depending on their ability. The instructor will carefully monitor their abilities.4. Having seen them swim, the instructor will split them into two
