For Questions 1-7, choose the best answer from the four choices marked (a), (b), (c) and (d). For Questions 8-10, complete the sentences with the information given in the passage. Have you ever asked yourself this question: How do I really want to make an impact with my acquired education? or What would I have done without my acquired qualification? If you havent had questions like this ringing in your head, I guess you are just living like a voyager without a directional compass. Self discovery is a gradual process in which an individual actually inquires more about himself. He discovers what he loves most and what he hates most. He finds out about what he is good at and thinks of how he can experimentally develop it. It is a very important step you must take in developing your inner self and enhancing your creativity. As a youth, you have been blessed by the Almighty with a lot of ideas and intelligence which lie inside of you. If you however fail to locate it, you are bound never to make use of it. As a popular saying goes, you do not create a talent, you discover it. Every individual has his duty in making the world a better place with his inborn talent. Dont you want to be remembered for making an impact after leaving the earth? Dont you want to be classified among nobles in high places noted for their intellect? If you really want to achieve your goals in life, then this is the time for you to discover yourself. When discovering yourself, you must first of all prepare a concrete and realistic message in your mind. You can then transform it into a goal. Think of what it takes to achieve it and search your mind for things you know you are good at and enjoy doing. In order for you to take this step, you must find time for yourself. You should endeavour to deny yourself of some unnecessary pleasures. I dont mean subjecting yourself to hardship; I mean you just have to pay a necessary price for success. Achievers are always busy thinking of innovations, techniques and ways of solving problems. Also, you must be carefully observant when discovering yourself. You must take your time to learn and know more about what you do. It is also important that you make an attempt. Great men started working on goals by attempting without fear of failure. For instance, the famous Archimedes who was just a layman through careful observation discovered a principle which now forms the basis of modern science. This principle is the popular Archimedes principle. After taking your first few steps in self discovery, you then have to be focused and productive. Your being focused implies that you should keep yourself on track with your field of interest, while productivity is about taking steps in achieving your goals. Search for things that will boost your interest and motivate you. If you dont like reading, I guess you will have to cultivate the habit because it provides constant knowledge. Try as much as possible to get enough information about your field of interest. Get to meet people who are better than you in that field and learn as much as possible from them. You can also read about great achievers and know how they attained their heights. You must keep on having the zeal to learn every day because it is a continuous and productive process. However, you are bound to face criticism and challenges along the road. But this should make you stronger and serve as a stepping stone to your success. The road might look rough, but you must be prepared to win the battle against all odds. You must never allow critics to bring you down. Remember that no two persons can be the same. Every individual has his target and commitment to life. So it is left to you to focus properly on yours. As the self discovery process continues, try to take breaks when necessary and dont expect fast or quick results. You must have patience, perseverance and optimism. It is not how long that matters but how well. Commend yourself for your previous attempts and look for challenging environments that will keep you improving. In conclusion, we must keep on remembering as youths that we are the future leaders and therefore have to possess the tools in making positive impacts and reforms in our society. These tools have to be acquired gradually and systematically. We must keep on building our intellectual property because intellectual property is the real estate property of the 21st century. 1 According to the author, which of the following statements is NOT the reason for self discovery?
