Instructions for connecting a DVD system for Download/Debug:This document describes how to connect your PC to the design board, how to be able to download your code to the flash card and how to be able to debug your code.This document is general and not for a specific reference design. You will need to know the jumper settings for your reference design board.Tools:You will need the following tools in order to be able to fully connect your DVD to your PC: Paradigm The debugger/compiler environment. P4 Enables you to update your source code and check out the right revision. QFP The software that lets you burn/write to Flash. Secure CRT lets you view the terminal output of the program on your computer screen in Debug mode.You will also need: Jumper settings for your design.How to down load your code to Flash so that you can run it on the system:1. Log in to your P4 account and make sure you have the latest and most up to date code. (Or whatever revision that you might need).2. Start Paradigm, load your desired Project and build it.3. On your system board: make the appropriate wire connections according to the jumper settings specifications (or ask for the jumper settings for your DVD board.) Basically you will need to make the connections for Debug/Download/Release and later on Hyperterminal. Connect them using USB to serial connectors, through a USB HUB to your computer. Assign the appropriate COM ports on your PC.4. To download the code to the Flash:4.1. Run QFP.4.1.1. Set the correct serial port number.4.1.2. Set the correct device - Flash type.4.1.3. Select the file that you would like to download:/ Customer/Output/Axe/.bin4.1.4. Set the Jumper settings on the System board to Download mode.4.1.5. Connect the system to power.4.1.6. Turn the DVD on.4.1.7. Turn the DVD power off.6. Change the Jumper settings to: Release Mode.7. Turn the DVD power ON.8. You can connect the DVD to a TV set (Audio Video connections on the back, refer to back panel configuration diagrams if it is not straight forward)9. You can operate the DVD player using the code that you have down loaded to Flash.How to trace through the code and to debug it while it is running:1. Connect a debug board to the system board.2. Repeat steps 1-3 above.3. Repeat step 4 above except that: the file that you would want to burn to Flash is:Pdtermxxx.bin4. Turn the DVD power off.5. Change the Jumper settings to: Debug Mode.6. Turn the DVD power ON.7. In Paradigm set the appropriate debug port and check for connection:7.1. Start Paradigm: open the projects .ide file7.2. In the browser: Right click on the project *.axe file name7.3. Select: Communication options: PDREMORE/ROM7.4. Set the correct port in the device field.7.5. Hit: Test.7.6. In the new window select: Test.You should get a message saying:.PASSED: No errors detectedNote: Sometime when there seems to be no connection, if you quit and restart your Paradigm application, the problem gets resolved.8. Hit: Cancel to dismiss window.9. Hit: OK to dismiss window.10. In Secure CRT: set the port and connect:10.1. Start the SecureCRT Application.10.1.1. Set the port number to the port on your PC that was connected to the HyperTerminal jumper.10.2. Hit the Connect button.11. In Paradigm:11.1. Double Click on the project, it will start downloading it to the debug board.11.2. You can debug/trace your code in Paradigm.11.3. On the TV screen you will see the Zoran Logo etc.11.4. In the SecureCRT window you will get a message of this type:* Welcome to Mercury * CPU Software version M * SERVO Software version 0 *before CPU_DSP_ROM_CONTROL : 0001after CPU_DSP_ROM_CONTROL : 0000Set UI Stack Bottom to 100Set Core Stack Bottom to 100Set Debug Stack Bottom to 100Set Main Stack Bottom to 100Stack Bottom Check Timer Is RunningPower ON sequence.RootReset DVD
