School was over and I felt quite tired. I sat at the very _36_ of the crowded bus because of my anxiety to get home. Sitting there makes me _37_ out like a shiny coin in a pile of dull pennies.Janie, the _38_ , tries to break the uncomfortable atmosphere by striking the match of _39_ . I tried to mind my manners and _40_ listen, but usually I am too busy thinking about my day. On this day, _41_ , her conversation was worth listening to.“My fathers sick,” she said to no one in _42_ . I could see the anxiety and fear in her eyes. “Whats wrong with him?” I asked. With her eyes wet and her voice tight from _43_ the tears, she answered, “Heart trouble.” Her eyes _44_ as she continued. “Ive already lost my mum, so I dont think I can stand losing him.”I was _45_ . My heart ached for her. And this reminded me of the great _46_ that my own mother was thrown into when her father died. I saw how hard it was, and _47_ is, for her. I wouldnt like anyone to _48_ that.Suddenly I realized Janie wasnt only a bus driver. That was _49_ her job. She had a whole world of _50_ and concerns, too. I suddenly felt very selfish. I realized I had only thought of people as _51_ as what their purposes were in my life. I paid no attention to Janie _52_ she was a bus driver. I had _53_ her by her job and brushed her off as unimportant. For all I know, Im just another person in _54_ elses world, and may not even be _55_ . I should not have been so selfish and self-centered. Everyone has places to go, people to see and appointment to keep. Understanding people is an art.36. A. frontB. endC. sideD. middle37. I can still remember one _33_ when I was eight years old. I wanted _34_ anything to be allowed to climb the walls surrounding the property. The walls were old; some stones were _35_, others loose. Still, my desire to climb across those walls _36_so strong that finally, one spring weekend, I took all my _37_ and entered the living room, where the _38_had gathered after Sunday dinner. I, I wanna climb the stone walls,” I said hesitantly. _39_ a chorus went up from the women in the room. “Heavens, no!” they cried. “You will hurt yourself”. I wasnt too _40_; the respond was just as I had expected. But _41_I could have left the room, I was _42_ by my grandfathers loud voice:” Now _43_just a minute.” I heard him say.” Let the little boy climb the stone walls. _44_, he has to learn to do things for himself.” For the next two hours I climbed those old walls and had the time of my _45_. Later I told my grandfather about my _46_. I will never forget what he said:” Fred,” he said, smiling, “ you made this day a (an) _47_one just by being yourself. It was about 11:00 p.m. 16 my telephone rang. The caller ID showed the number of a Best Western Hotel. 17 , I would ignore this type of call. For some reason, 18 , I went ahead and answered. The man on the other end asked if I knew Samual K. I 19 , as he is my 91 year old grandfather. Still not 20 why I was the one that had been called, the caller went on to tell me that I was the only 21 listed in the phone book. He said his name was Mason and that he was the 22 at the Best Western Hotel. The 23 was that grandpa had no money with him, and that he couldnt 24 any phone numbers, so Mason called all over the state trying to get help. Grandpa told me that he just wanted me to tell Mason that he is a (n) 25 guy and would pay the money once he got home. But the man in charge there was 26 because my grandfather seemed to be 27 . He had been going somewhere else when he got on the wrong bus and 28 100 miles from home. Not wanting to turn him away and not wanting the police to 29 him to the police station, Mason, 30 any normal duty, not only took the time to 31 me, but also charged just $ 39 so that grandpa could 32 safely and comfortably overnight. (The rooms normally rent for about $ 140!) Besides, he had the staff of that hotel all 33 him until my uncle was able to drive the 100 miles to pick him up!So, its just one more piece of 34 that proves that there are still good people out there; wherever you go, there is always one who 35 .16AwhileBwhenCafter Dbefore17AObviouslyBPersonallyCActuallyDGenerally18AhoweverBbesidesCotherwiseDtherefore19AwasBdidChadDwould20AadmittingBacceptingCunderstandingDrecognizing21AneighborBrelativeCcolleagueDfriend22AmanagerBwaiterCmayorDguest23AdisadvantageBquestionCproblemDpity24AwriteBrememberCrepeatDkeep15Aeasy goingBgenerousCforgettableDokay26AconcernedBdisappointedCconvincedDsurprised27AhurtBmovedCannoyedDlost28Awent upBadded upCended upDsent up29AtakeBbringCinviteDcarry30AexceptBagainstCbeyondDfrom31AcontactBpersuadeCwarnDapproach32AleaveBliveCadaptDstay33Alook forBwatch overCcare aboutDadjust to34AnewsBinformationCadviceDevidence35AmindsBcaresCseesDmatters1620 BDABC 2125 BACBD 2630 ADCAC 3135ADBDBThe Best HolidayI was unbelievably proud of my nine-year-old daughter. Emily 41 to buy a mountain bike. Shed been saving her pocket money all year, 42 doing small jobs to earn extra money.By Thanksgiving, she had collected only $49. I said, “You 43 have your pick from my bicycle 44 .” “Thanks, Daddy. But your bikes are so old.” She was right. All my girls bikes were 1950s models, not the kind a kid today would 45 to choose. As Christmas 46 near, Emily and I went bike shopping. As we left one store, she 47 a Salvation Army volunteer standing next to a big pot. “Can we give something, Daddy?” she asked. “Sorry, Em, Im out of 48 .”Throughout December, Emily continued to 49 hard. Then one day, she made a 50_ announcement. “You know all the money Ive been saving?” she said hesitantly. “Im going to give it to the poor people.” So one cold morning before Christmas, Emily handed her total savings of $ 58 to a volunteer who was really very 51 . 52 by Emilys selflessness, I decided to contribute 53 of my old bicycles to a car dealer who was collecting used bikes for poor children. 54 I selected a shiny model from my collection, however, it seemed as if a second bike took on a glow(发光). Should I contribute two? No, one would be enough. But I couldnt 55 the feeling that I should give a second bike. When I later 56 the bikes, the car dealer said, “Youre making two kids
