This cambered-surface cam indexer depends on the three-dimensional cam on the input shaft and has no-clearance engagement with the driven roller on the output precision dividing spindle. Find out the positions of the input output shafts, add locating pins and tighten the screws evenly. As the installing surface of this indexer is higher compared with the verticality degree or the cambered surface degree of the input and output shafts, the installing surface for the equipment must guarantee to make the directions of the input and output of this indexer coaxial with those needed for the equipment, and the directions shall not be askew or eccentric otherwise it may not only influence the precision of the output but also damage the indexer seriously, because at this moment, this indexer is in a state of abnormal stress. 1、 Installation of Input and Output Shafts: The connection related with the input and output shafts of the indexer shall have good rigidity in the gyratory directions, no backstroke and steady rotation. While installing a rotary table, sprocket, belt pulley, gear wheel, ring flange, etc, on the input and output shafts of the indexer, you should pay attention to: (1) Absolutely forbid using a hammer for forceful strike and unreasonable impact so as not to damage the cam and needle bearing inside indexer. (2) The input and output shafts and their overhanging rigid shafts shall not be erected unreasonably but shall undergo sufficient centering adjustment. (3) If the input and output shafts are of Grade H6 of finish machining, and the finish machining of the aperture is of Grade H6, the pressing-in will be comparatively ideal. Here, you are expected to avoid the fitting of the upper and lower limit deviations of the holes and shafts, and the joining with key shall not be too loose. (4) While installing the parts to be processed, accessories, clamps and tool, for the eccentricity or process step error of the work bench, you should adjust and eliminate it through the measurement of instruments. IV Dynamic Input and Output and Connection of Cambered-Surface Cam Indexer 1, The driving members linking with the input shaft of the indexer include a belt pulley, sprocket, synchronous band wheel, gear, junction box, etc. Because of the pulsation of load, the moment of rotation of the input shaft of the cam has the positive and negative changes in one cycle. And the characteristics of the cam will be given play to only when the input shaft of the cam is rotated at a certain speed. So the whirling instability of the camshaft may obviously increase the moment of rotation that the indexer adds, causing abominable influence to the intermittent motion. Therefore, the input shaft of the cam shall not use a belt which produces slipping, chain which produces pulsation or gear wheel which has a clearance for driving. Using belts or the roller chain, one must be tight. For using a gear wheel, the precision shall be high and you shall eliminate the clearance of the engagement. There are more advantages for using a synchronous belt: It is in pace with other movements; even if the conveyor belt and belt pulley rub, it will not produce clearance, either; its vibration is small, realizing a high speed; selecting a belt pulley with a greater diameter for use will have the effect at full speed. In general cases, the indexer input shaft form is of the structure of joining with key for shaft input. In the course of rotation, the instability of all factors and the pulsation of the driving load are very apt to enable the joining with key to become loose, presenting the fitting clearance, make the movement of the input shaft not continuous, producing impact, so that not only the connectors are easy to damage but also the impact on the service life of the indexer is more serious, apt to damage its inside cam and needle bearing. So, during connection, you should adjust it carefully, and in the course of using it, should often check it. 2, There are two output transmission ways for the indexer; (1) , Direct transmission. (2) , Indirect transmission. For the indirect transmission, you should try your best to avoid backstroke. The structure linking with the output end of the indexer has the following several kinds; ( 1) , A shaft is connected with a shaft through a flange or sleeve ( 2) , The fitting of a shaft and a hole uses joining with key ( 3) , The connection between flanges As in the intermission of the output, from rest to motion and from motion to rest, the inertia force is comparatively great, plus the fitting clearance of the connector, it is often very apt to produce loosening between the output end and the connector, cause the preshoot and lagging in output transmission and produce vibration, thus, not only reducing the precision of the output but also destroying the indexer and its inside cam and needle bearing seriously. For this reason, you should pay attention to the following several points: (1) The fitting clearance of a hole and shaft shall not be too great, and joining with key shall not be too loose. (2) The butt joint between shafts and the connection between flanges shall not be eccentric or askew so as to ensure concentricity. (3) For the connection of flanges, add pins and tighten with bolts. V Adjustment of Pre-tightening Load of Cambered-Surface Cam Indexer A greater factor affecting the precision and the service life life-span of the indexer division lies in adjustment. The product of the indexer dispatched from the factory has been processed accurately, assembled meticulously and adjusted. Inappropriate adjustment may influence the precision of the division, presenting impact and noise, damaging the indexer, not reaching the anticipated rotational speed and endurance, and thus shortening the service life of the indexer.
