文档简介

Book Review on Pride and Prejudice Recently, I have read this book again, called Pride and Prejudice. It was written by Jane Austen, a famous British female writer. The content of the novel is as following. The Bennets was a middle class in Netherfield. They had five daughters but no sons. Mrs. Bennet was eager to let her daughters married with rich men because she and her daughters were no inheritance after Mr. Bennets death. Jane, the eldest daughter in Bennets, was a pretty girl but she was not good at expressing her own feelings to others, even to her sisters. Mr. Bingley, a rich young man, was a new neighbor in Netherfield. He and Jane fell in love with each other when they met at the first sight in the ball. However, Mr. Bingley has ever given up the relationship with Jane because of Janes social position and fortune, and most importantly, her unknown feeling for him. In addition, Mr. Darcy, his good friend of Mr. Bingley, persuaded Mr. Bingley that he shouldnt propose to Jane. Fortunately, Mr. Bingley proposed to Jane because of his strong affection to Jane. Elizabeth, the second eldest daughter in Bennets, was a cheerful, cute, smart and sociable girl. She was loved at first sight by Mr. Darcy, who was a rich, young and handsome gentleman. But she hated Mr. Darcy owing to his superficial pride. Gradually, Elizabeth emerged her prejudice to Mr. Darcy and ran to Mr. Wickham. However, Mr. Wickham was a hypocrite. He spoke ill of Mr. Darcy. Therefore, Elizabeth emerged more prejudice to Mr. Darcy. As a result, Elizabeth refused the Mr. Darcys proposal rudely. Luckily, Mr. Darcy wrote a letter to Elizabeth and explained why he persuaded Mr. Bingley left Jane and what kind of person Mr. Bingley was. Through Elizabeths consideration, she understood why Mr. Darcy had done and knew that Mr. Wickham was a hypocrite. Gradually, Elizabeth reduced her prejudice to Mr. Darcy and fell in love with him. Finally, Mr. Darcy proposed to Elizabeth again and she accepted it. They lived a happy life. On the contrary, Lydia, the youngest daughters in Bennets, was a foolish girl. She was crazy about officers just because of the service uniforms. Whats crazier, she eloped with Mr. Wickham. For a large amount of money from Mr. Darcy, Lydia married to Mr. Wickham and she showed off her marriage to others. Mr. Collins, a short common priest, he would inherit Mr. Bennets heritage. He came to Bennets house to marry one of daughters as compensation. He proposed to Elizabeth but she refused him. To Elizabeths surprise, her best friend, Charlotte, engaged to Mr. Collin. Charlotte was 27 and had no penniless. But she was intelligent and she chose Mr. Collin as her husband. From the four couples, Jane and Mr. Bingley, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, Lydia and Mr. Wickham, and Charlotte and Mr. Collin, I can learn four points in love or marriage. First of all, I learn that a lady cant hide her feeling so deep to a man from Janes story. In love, I should express my feelings to guys whether I like him or not. Luckily, if I say “I love you” to a guy, and he feels the same way to me. Thats wonderful because I dont miss it. But if the guy doesnt like me, I will settle my feelings as soon as possible to have another romantic journey. In addition, I learn that I should know someones personality, not appearance. If I judge someone owning to his appearance, it might be wrong and bias. Most importantly, time will prove that what kind of person he is. So I cant judge someone from his appearance or some events. Besides, I cant judge someone by first impression. Sometimes relationship depending on first impression may be wrong because it is not objective. This is what I learn from Elizabeths love story. Whats more, I know that a person must be realistic sometime, especially for a woman. Fairy tales dont happen to everyone in real world. Only it doesnt violate my rules will I make compromise. If I persist my rules stubbornly, I might lose everything let alone getting what I want. Thats what I have learned from Charlottes love story. Last but not least, I must be sane before I take action or make a vital decision. I must consider it well. It will be a disaster if I do things without sense. For example, sometimes sex impulse is very common
