精英计划英语专注于中学英语教育 (an - actually)I was happy to be absent from school. According to Mother, if the ache in my stomach worsens, Ill miss a few more days of school. I couldnt be happier but I had to act as if I was sad and upset. Mother believed my act. An actual actor or actress couldnt have achieved the level of acting I just did.I actually didnt have a problem with my stomach. I couldnt go to school and face Big Derek. Derek was two grades above me and stood about two feet over me. It was an accident when he heard me say he had a lot of muscle but his mother forgot to give him brains. He had more brains and muscles than I thought because he had the ability to understand and throw me across the room. It became his daily activity. He would find me about school and hurt me. If I didnt act fast and hide when he came, I wouldnt be able to tell you about my problems. I was active in solving my problems, but I achieved nothing and gained more trouble. I hired Biff who was much larger than Derek to teach Derek a lesson. But when Biff came to school yesterday, I discovered Biff and Big Derek were cousins. Together, Biff and Big Derek wrote across the playground, “Charlie will die tomorrow!” Because of what happened above, I can never go back to school. I have accepted the idea of moving abroad to America. (add - African)It was midnight and I still hadnt finished studying for my test. I repeated to myself again and again, “Adjectives describe nouns. Adverbs describe verbs.” I must have fallen asleep because when I woke up, it was time for school. I was afraid of going to school. I couldnt afford to fail another test. My teacher advised Mother to punish me if I didnt do well. She said if I still did poorly, I cant advance into the next grade. Mother took the advice and bought a stick. The stick only added to my problems at school. The streets were empty and I didnt see any of my classmates. I saw an advertisement on the ground and picked it up. It read, “Looking for an adventure? Fly on the most advanced aeroplane to Africa. See the Africans and the African style of life.” I admit I admire adults. They get to do whatever they want to do. They have the advantage of having money to afford these trips. I wish I was an adult, then I wouldnt have to take this test. Advancing to the school gate, I noticed it was locked. I checked the name and address of the school. I was at the right place. Whats going on ? Ill be in trouble if I dont take my test! I sat there and couldnt stop my eyes from watering. A man walked by and asked what was wrong. Crying, I told him my problem. “What a strange affair,” he said, “I didnt know students had class on Saturdays.” (after - alone)My family is in the agriculture business. My father is a farmer, my fathers father was a farmer, my fathers fathers father was a farmer. My father expects me to become a farmer and join them all but I dont agree with my father. Three years ago, on a sunny afternoon, I followed Father to the airport to visit one of his friends. His friend owned a small airline with two small aircrafts. It was the first time I had seen an airplane. After my fathers friend discovered I had never been in an airplane, he allowed me to fly with him. When we took off, I felt alive. While we were in the air, I almost forgot I had to return to the ground. All I could think of was flying would be my aim in life and how I wanted to fly again and again. When I had time, my fathers friend would teach me how to fly. He even let me fly alone once. I wanted to become a pilot but I would have to go against my father. At the age of 18, I had to tell my father what I wanted to do but I didnt want to alarm him. As he walked ahead of me and I followed after, I didnt know what I could say to aid him in understanding my passion for flying. “Father, I have something to tell you and it may come as an alarm.” “What is it, my son?” “Im aiming to go to college and become a pilot. I have talked to the schools and they said I might be able to receive financial aid.” I felt alone in his silence. Then he spoke. “I was wondering when you would tell me. I have been saving money for you to go to college.” (along - anxious)A letter with American stamps came to the house and it announced the arrival of my uncle. I didnt know I had an uncle. When Father and Uncle were young, they were always together and were one anothers best friend. When it came time to get married, Uncle refused. He had the ambition of leaving China and going to America. Father disagreed with this and one night, Uncle was gone. Everyone asked where he went and six years later, the answer came in a letter. He had become an American. My father was very angry. He believed uncle betrayed the ancient tradition of staying home and taking care of the old. Altogether it has been 25 years since Uncle left. Although it has been so long, the amount of anger Father had only grew. Among the family, only Father refused to see him. Father said aloud “Only animals leave their family!” According to the letter, Uncle was already in China and he also brought his wife and children along with him. I was worried Father would not see him. When I was walking along the street with my mother, I asked her what would happen if Father did not see Uncle. She answered, “Dont worry about that. Your father tries to hid it but he is the most anxious of us all to see your uncle. (any - arrive)I left the army in April and arrived in this area around two months ago. I would have stayed at home if there was anybody there worth staying for. Everyone in my family had already passed away. Because of this, I felt I could go anywhere to start a new life. An old friend arranged an apartment for me and that is how I came here. Upon my arrival, I met my neighbors who were an elderly couple. They had been married for over 50 years. Day after day, I could hear them arguing through the thin walls. They would fight about anything and everything, and never had I ever heard them apologize to each other. It would appear to anyone that they hated each other. All the other people in the apartment could hear them arguing and said they didnt understand why any couple like them would stay with each other. But I would often see the wife buying apples because her husband loved eating apples. Any time I saw both of them on the street, they would always be walking arm in arm. One time I was in another part of the town and they appeared around the corner. I watched them and saw the husband buy the wife flowers. Looking at her face, I could see she deeply appreciated them.Seeing them, I appreciate how they show their love for each other. When I see any apples or flowers, I wish I had someone whom I could apply what I have learned from the old couple to and argue with. (art - audience)I was at home reading a newspaper article and it said a famous Asian artist was coming to New York for a showing of his art from Asia. The next day at about 4:30, I decided to attend the showing. I was astonished to find so many people there. I didnt know his work would attract such a large audience. I looked at the people around me and felt ashamed of what I was wearing. As I walked around, I noticed everyone was wearing expensive clothes. I attempted to look at the art but as there were so many people, I couldnt see anything. I felt as if I was being attacked from all sides. No one seemed to be paying attention to the work. I saw a man who I thought was the artist but I later found out he was the artists assistant. He was running around attending to everyones drinks. It felt as a party would feel like instead of people coming to appreciate art. I found a back door and left. Right outside of the door, I saw an Asian sitting on a box, smoking and leaving ashes everywhere. I asked him what he thought of the art and he said, “It doesnt matter. No one is looking at it.” I told him I felt the work was very interesting, you could tell the artist loved each one and I liked them very much. As for the people in there, I could do without. He smiled and said a sincere “Thank you.”Before I fell asleep that night, I could only think that as an artist, I would ask for nothing except for people to look at my work. ( august - banana )I moved away from China to Australia when I was four years old. I thought Australia was strange. August was in winter and April was in Autumn. All the Australian seasons are the opposite of the seasons in China. As I was finally getting used to being an Australian, an awful thing happened. My mothers stomach was slowly growing larger and larger. I was scared if it got any bigger, it would explode like a balloon. One day, mother was at the hospital and I was worried something bad had happened. Something bad did happen. Father brought me to the hospital and I saw Mother no longer had her large stomach. I asked what happened to the balloon in her stomach and Father said it wasnt a balloon. It was a baby. He brought me to see the baby but I told him I would rather have a balloon. Father bought me a balloon but we still had to take the baby back home. On average, the baby would awake and start crying. I learned to avoid the thing but everyone gave it so much attention and they didnt think it smelled badly. Even when it wasnt awake, people would just stare at it. When my favorite aunt came to the house with a bag of my favorite banana cake she had baked, I was so happy. She would always play with me but when I tried to show her how I could balance a ball on my nose, she told me to go outside to play. All she cared about was that stupid baby. No one wants me anymore. My parents have found something to take my place. (bank - beat)I couldnt bear the heat anymore. I felt the urge to bathe myself in the cool waters of a nearby beach. Unfortunately, the basic fee for a beach was very expensive so I went to the bank to take out some money. The bank was strangely empty when I arrived. I must have beaten the crowd by coming in early. All of a sudden, I heard somebody yell, “ I dont want to bargain anymore! My wife is about to bear a child in a basin and you still wont loan me any money.” A man wearing a bear mask was running out, waving a gun and threatening to beat me if he catches me. Oh no, this is definitely the wrong place to be. In my panic to escape, I ran and fell over a waste basket. The bank robber caught up with me and we started fighting. I was afraid but I did not want to lose the battle for my life. For all I knew, he could easily take me back to his base quarters and kill me then. I asked him if we could reach a bargain. If he could just let me be and take me to the bank by my house, I would not tell anyone about his crime. He did not think this was a good bargain because he knocked me to the floor. Everything became dark afterwards. A while later, I felt myself thrown like a basketball into the corner of a dirty bathroom. I couldnt think until the door opened and people dragged me out on to a pile of sand. I turned my head to see the bright waves, and I realized that I was still alive. I felt lucky that I could still enjoy a bath in the waters. (beautiful - below) Before I could begin to explain why I fed all the beef and beer to the dog, Mother locked me in my bedroom to punish me. She told me to think about what I just did and if it was right or wrong. Because the dog was begging me for food and I could only find the beef and beer, I fed it to the dog.It was such a beautiful day outside. I shouldnt be locked in my room. Looking at the children below, I belonged outside with them. Before, Mother used to just scold me but one of her friends told her it would be better to lock me in my bedroom. She said the worst punishment for children is to give them nothing to do. Mother actually believed her. I heard the bell ring. I stood behind the door to hear who it was and it was my aunt. My aunt always came by the apartment. I jumped onto my bed. I could still hear the children below my window playing and laughing. At that moment a bee flew right before me. I thought how wonderful it would be if I could become a bee. The beauty of being a bee is you can fly anywhere you want to and eat as much honey as you want. I could follow behind people and listen to everything they said. I was excited about becoming a bee but after a while, it wasnt so exciting anymore. I couldnt stand hearing the children downstairs playing. Perhaps I should not have fed the dog the beef and beer. (belt - bit)I woke up with the best possible feeling. Beyond, the birds were singing. It was my birthday. Besides a biology test at school, nothing
