the need to change their eating habits, because much of the food they eat, particularly foods, is not good for the health. consequently, there has been a growing interest in natural foods: foods which do not contain chemical additives and which have not been affected by chemical fertilizers, widely used in farming to- day. natural foods, for example, vegetables, fruits and grains which have been grown in soil that is rich in organic matter. in simple terms, this means that the soil has been nourished by unused vegetable matter, which provides it with essential vitamins and minerals. this in itself is a natural process compared with the use of chemicals and fertilizers, the main purpose of which is to increase the amountbut not the qualityof foods grown in commercial farming areas. natural foods also include animals which have been allowed to feed and move freely in healthy pastures. compare this with what happens in the mass production of poultry: there are battery farms, for ex- ample, where thousands of chickens live crowded together in one building and are fed on food which is little better than rubbish. chickens kept in this way are not only tasteless as food; they also produce eggs which lack important vitamins.there are other aspects of healthy eating which are now receiving increasing attention from experts on diet. take, for example, the question of sugar, this is actually a non-essential food! although a natural alternative, such as honey, can be used to sweeten food if this is necessary, we can in fact do without it. it is not that sugar is harmful in itself. but it does seem to be an additive: the quantity we use has grown steadily over the last two centuries and in britain today each person consumes an average of 200 pounds a year! yet all it does is provide us with energy, in the form. of calories. there are no vitamins in it, no minerals and no fibre. it is significant that nowadays fibre is considered to be an important part of a healthy diet. in white bread, for example, the fibre has been removed. but it is present in unrefined flour and of course in vegetable. it is interesting to note that in countries where the national diet contains large quantities of unrefined flour and vegetable, certain diseases are comparatively rare. hence the emphasis placed on the eating of wholemeal bread and more vegetables by modern experts on healthy eating.61.recently, some people are interested in natural foods because _. athese foods are fresh and sweet bthey dont like the processed foods cthey want to change their eating habits dthese foods contain more vitamins, minerals and fiber etc.62. according to the passage,to use chemicals and fertilizers means _. a. to increase the amount of foods b. to increase the quality of foods c. to increase the amount and quality of foodsd. to increase essential vitamins and minerals 63.it can be inferred from the passage that _.a. people will no longer eat those foods containing chemical additivesb. farmers will not necessarily use fertilizers to promote productionc. natural foods will find a good market in the futured. certain disease will never befall people who eat natural foods64. what can we learn from the passage?a. chickens live crowed together in one building lay more eggs.b. natural foods refer to the food produced in the fields.c. fewer diseases are caused by natural foods.d. sugar seems to be an additive that is necessary for human heath65. the best title for this passage is _.a.eating habits are stable b. new trend in diet-natural foods c. natural foods and chemical additives. d. how to go on a diet cliving and dealing with kids can be a tough job these days, but living and dealing with parents can be even tougher. if i have learned anything in my 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. with any relationship, you need to let other person know how you are feeling. if you are not able to communicate, you drift apart. when you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not talking to them doesnt solve anything. communication begins with the concerns of another. it means that you cant just come home from school, go up to your room and ignore everyone. even if you just say “hi”, and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing. if you looked up the word “communication” in a dictionary, it would say “the exchange of ideas, the conveyance of information, correspondence, means of communication: a letter or a message”. to maintain a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. let people know how you feel, even if its just by writing a note. when dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. if you are trying to make them see something as you see it, tell them that youll listen to what they have to say, but ask them politely to listen to you. yelling or walking away only makes the situation worse. this is an example: one night, sophie went to a street party with her friends. she knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didnt feel she could just ask to go home. that would be rude. after all, they had been nice enough to take her along with them. needless to say, she was late getting home. her parents were mad at first, not when sophie explained why she was late, they werent as mad and let the incident go. communication is the key factor here. if sophies parents had not been willing to listen, sophie would have been in a lot of trouble. communication isnt a one-way deal: it goes both ways. just remember: if you get into a situation like sophies, telling the other person how you feel-listening is the key factor to communication.66. in the writer
