Book 3 Module5 Writing“Great People and Great Inventions of Ancient China”黑龙江省东方红林业局中学 侯春荣一、Teaching background Teaching aims Teaching strategiesstep contentTeachingbackgroundAnalysis of the teaching material:Status and function: The topic of this module is “Great people and Great inventions of ancient China”. It introduces some famous philosophers and great inventions. Writing is the sixth period of this module following reading and listening, so it can deepen the understanding of this module. According to the New Standard Curriculum, we should enable the students to express their views on things or people.Key points: How to get the students to grasp the writing structure of contrast essays and write an essay according to the template.Difficult points: How to encourage the students to express their opinions and debate.Analysis of the students :As we know , the Senior 1 students have great interest in this topic .They have desire to express themselves. But their English level is not very high. So they may have difficulty writing contrast essays and havent formed certain patterns.Teaching aimsKnowledge aim: 1. Enable the students to grasp the argumentation writing structure and to join sentences into a composition.2. Enable the students to use basic sentence patterns to express their views. Such as ,in my opinion, as for me , as far as I am concerned ,etc.Ability aim:1. To improve the students writing ability especially the argumentation writing2. To encourage the students to express their ideas and improve communicative ability.3. To cultivate the students critical thinking.Emotion aim:1. To reinforce the students awareness of culture and cooperation.2. To build up the students self-confidence by expressing their ideas.Teaching strategies1. Situational teaching approach2. Multi-media Assistant teaching approach二、Teaching proceduresstepcontentpurposeStep1 Lead inIll show the students a short video “Pleasant goat and Big Big wolf ”about our country great invention-seismograph. But in the cartoon, Big Big wolf disorderly uses it , which causes bad influence ,and then ask students to answer questions:1.Do you know who invented the seismograph? 2. Can you say the influence of the Chinese Seismograph?Interest is the best teacher. This step can arouse the students interest in learning about great inventionsBy answering these questions, make students realize that everything has two sides.Step2ReadingActivity1: ask students to read the passage and finish matching the paragraphs with the description. Activity2: work in pairs and try to answer some questions:1.How many advantages are described? 2. How many disadvantages are described? 3.What phrase does the writer use to start the last paragraph?Get them to focus on the structure of the passage. Get them to find useful conjunctions in the passage. Its the further understanding of the passage. Step3Build a templateIn this step, the teacher and students together analyze the content and build a template, and then recite it .Para 1: Nowadays.plays an important part in like everything else,.has/have both advantages and disadvantages. To begin with; To make matters worse; Worse of allPara4: All things considered, we can see that the positive aspects/advantages outweigh the negative ones/disadvantages. therefore/in conclusionConclusion:In my opinion, As far as I am concerned, I think/believe/guess we should., Personally, I agree to .Most of students writing level is not high .So in this way they can get the twice result with the half effort and lay the foundation for the following writing.Enable students to use basic sentence patterns to express their views.Step4WritingActivity1: Group work, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of television and put the related information into the two boxes. Advantages of televisionDisadvantages of televisionActivity 2: writing in a regular timeThis activity can eliminate word obstacles.The studentspay attention to tense,structure, person andconjunctions, etc. Step5Evaluation and debateActivity 1: According to the forms, the students can discuss their writings in groups and choose the best one. And then show it on the screen. Attached Form I、II、III .Activity 2: DebateThe students can freely debate about whether our country should build more nuclear power plants.Homework According to the content of the debate, the students finish this composition. Whats more, I encourage the students to take part in all kinds of activities .The overall effect is good .But for some students ,they dont have enough time in writing step .So Ill pay attention to them and give timely help.
