浙江永嘉县2016高考英语二轮七选五(类)初练题(3)七选五。根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。africa is a very diverse land with many different tribes. one tradition that many of these groups share is painting or marking their bodies and faces in color. they do this for many reasons. some marks are used to identify people as part of a group. 36 lets look at some different examples of body painting. _37 among the masai of east africa, when men are old enough to marry and make decisions for their people, they participate in a special ceremony in which they paint their heads and faces red. this ceremony takes place every seven to fourteen years, so there is not an exact age for participating in it. the samburu, also from east africa, like to paint their faces and hair red because they think it looks attractive. 38 to show that he has killed a lion, a man will paint his body with a natural white material, making special marks to represent this accomplishment. the masai men also use this white to show that they are no longer boys and are considered adults.one quite unusual example of face painting is done by the wodaabe people of west africa. once a year, they have a beauty contest for men. 39 then they add white and black circles and lines. black paint is used near the eyes and on the lips to draw attention to the whiteness of their eyes and teeth, which the wodaabe consider most beautiful. 40 .as you travel, enjoy the beautiful and bright colors of africa.a. red is the common color in body painting because it often represents health and long life.b. other marks are used for ceremonies such as weddings and during times of war.c. the ceremony expresses hope for rain.d. the masai men also have a unique way of showing that they are brave.e. the women then decide which man they like best.f. the men pretend to fight each other.g. the men paint their faces yellow and red.参考答案3640 badge任务型阅读(b)请认真阅读下列短文,根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。注意:请将答案写在答题卡上相应题号的横线上。每个空格只填1个单词。 from the health point of view we are living in a wonderful age. we are immunized from birth against many of the most dangerous diseases. a large number of once fatal illnesses can now be cured by modern drugs and surgery. it is almost certain that one day medicines will be found for the most stubborn remaining diseases. the expectation of life has increased largely. but though the possibility of living a long and happy life is greater than ever before, every day we witness the unbelievable slaughter (屠杀) of men, women and children on the roads. man versus the motor-car! it is a never-ending battle which man is losing. thousands of people the world over are killed or horribly killed each year and we are quietly sitting back and letting it happen.it has been rightly said that when a man is sitting behind a steering wheel(方向盘), his car becomes the additional part of his personality. there is no doubt that the motor-car often brings out a mans very worst qualities. people who are normally quiet and pleasant may become unrecognizable when they are behind a steering-wheel. they swear, they are ill-mannered and aggressive, willful as two-year-olds and completely selfish. all their hidden anger, disappointments and envies seem to be exposed by the act of driving.the surprising thing is that society only smiles so kindly on the motorist when seeing his behaviors talked about above. everything is done for his convenience. cities are allowed to become almost unsuitable to live because of heavy traffic; towns are made ugly by huge car parks; the countryside is damaged by road networks; and the mass annual slaughter becomes nothing more than a statistic, to be conveniently forgotten. it is high time a world code were created to reduce this senseless waste of human life. in regard to driving, the laws of some countries are dishonorably loose and even the strictest are not strict enough. a code which was universally accepted could only have a dramatically beneficial effect on the accident rate. here are a few examples of some things that might be done. the driving test should be standardized and made far more difficult than it is; all the drivers should be made to take a test every three years; the age at which young people are allowed to drive any vehicle should be raised to at least 21; all vehicles should be put through inflexible annual tests for safety. even the smallest amount of alcohol in the blood can destroy a persons driving ability, so present drinking and driving laws (where they exist) should be made much stricter. the highest and lowest speed limits should be put on all roads, as has been done in the usa. all advertising stressing power and performance should be banned. these measures may sound unacceptably harsh. but surely nothing should be considered to be too severe if it results in reducing the annual loss of human life. after all, the world is for human beings, not for motor-cars.title: strict traffic laws can prevent accidentspresent situation of road accidents road accidents seem to happen (1) _.we are quietly sitting back and letting road slaughter happen.(2) _ for so many road accidentswhen driving a car, a man tends to become ill-mannered and behave in an (3)_ way.it seems that all the hidden anger, disappointment and envies are (4)_by the act of driving.society just (5)_various kinds of bad behavior of a motorist.people (6) _the road accident statistics.(7) _ that should be taken to reduce road accidents the driving test should be standardized and made much more difficult. all the drivers should take a test every three years. only people at or (8)_ 21 can get a driving license. all vehicles should be given strict annual tests. drinking and driving laws should be made much stricter. the highest and the lowest speed limits should be put to (9) _. no advertising which stresses power and performance should be (10)_.1. frequently 2. reasons 3. aggressive 4. exposed5. tolerate/bear 6. ignore/overlook 7. measures 8. above/over 9. use 10. allowed/permitted 任务型阅读(a)请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入最恰当的单词。注意:每空格1个单词。everyone needs a break, and vacations are not meant for serious study. instead, theyre a great way to take a break and enjoy a good book. the spring festival is coming up so this is the perfect time to discuss some great english language literature to take on a long train journey or while youre hanging out with the family. before getting into the recommendations, we need to determine your english reading comprehension level so you dont pick a book which is so challenging that its stressful or so simple that its boring. if youre at the beginner level, there are two options: reading a childrens book or reading a book that youve read in chinese translation. this will help you get over any unfamiliar words or phrases, since youre already familiar with the story. if youre at the intermediate level, popular books like pop fiction, mysteries and thrillers are good options, as theyll be guaranteed page turners and that will increase the possibility of your getting all the way through the book. for advanced readers, science fiction, classic works of literature or contemporary prize winners (booker, nobel, pulitzer) are good options.the most important thing is to pick a book that youre really interested in. when i pick up a new book in chinese, the first few chapters are always really hard to get through, as i have to get accustomed to the way the individual author uses the language. but after the first few chapters, things get a lot easier, especially if i get involved in the story. some of my favorite chinese-language eye candy are books that are series like brothers by yu hua or the dancer by hai yan. i like them because theres always a lot of action and story development to keep me involved, which helps me make it through those first few chapters.another great way to keep yourself motivated over the holiday is to find a friend whos interested in reading the same book. you can make goals that you both want to achieve and discuss plot lines or vocabulary issues with each other by sms or e-mail. im currently doing that with my friend laura. weve been doing this since we were classmates in chinese at college.some quick recommendations: harry potter, start with the first book and go on from there; the narnia series; anything by us writer michael crichton or british writer agatha christie; and if you like horror, us writer stephen king is always unusual and fun. but really you should just find a topic or author that youre interested in, and the rest will go from there. happy reading!from 21st century (january 21, 2009)titleenjoy english language literature on vacationthemefind a good book to read on your journey to a (1) _ place.(2) _ of proper booksbeginners may pick a childrens book or a book whose story is (3) _ to them.poplar books might make it (4) _for intermediate-level readers to read them from cover to cover.science fiction, classic works of literature or contemporary prize winners may be (5) _ for advanced readers.ways to keep up your (6) _ for readingchoose a book that is interesting enough to (7) _ you in the story and help get through some difficult chapters .read along with a friend a book you both feel interested in and (8) _views on plot lines or vocabulary to achieve your common goals.books (9) _harry potter seriesnarnia seriesworks by michael crichtonworks by agatha christie(10) _ fiction by stephen king1. distant 2. choices/ options 3. familiar 4. possible 5. suitable 6. motivation 7. involve 8. exchange 9 recommended 10. horror任务型阅读(b)请认真阅读下列短文, 并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入最恰当的单词。注意:每空格1个单词。interviewing someone for a job is not as easy as it looks. first, as the interviewer, youre tasked with finding the person who will not only do the job well but also fit in well with the other employees. you have to make an evaluation of abstract qualities that cant be found on a rsum. because you have to repeat the process for every potential employee, you end up asking question after question, applicant after applicant.still, interviewers need to be told something: “what is your biggest weakness?” is not a good question. it just isnt.now, job seekers have to understand that interviewers want to find some way to know what makes an applicant different from others. asking questions that are seemingly impossible to answer is one way to see who can think creatively. then what may be a proper way to respond to such a question? honesty, with a twist(新手法)“what are your three strengths and three weaknesses? is a classic, but not too many people know how to answer this,” says kenneth c. wisnefski, founder and ceo of webimax, an online marketing company. “as an interviewer, we want to hear strengths that describe initiative(主动性), motivation and dedication. the best way to respond is to include these qualities into specific personal statements.”“similarly, weaknesses should be positioned as a strength that can benefit the employer.”“i like to hear applicants state an exaggerated strength, and put an interesting twist on it. an example of this is, my initiative is so strong, that sometimes i take on too many projects at a time.”this answer leads with a strength that employers want initiative and still acknowledges that youre not perfect. although you might consider this acknowledgement too honest, it works because it proves youre being honest. honesty, with progresswhen you consider what your weaknesses are, think about how you have attempted to overcome them. no one is perfect, so pretending that you are a perfectionist will come across as insincere. debra davenport, author of “career shuffle,” believes citing(引用) examples are the best approach.“my preferred response for this question is to tell the truth without damaging the applicants image.” davenport explains. “a better response might be, ive had some challenges with work-life balance in the past and i realize that a life out of balance isnt good for me, my family or my employer. ive taken the time to learn better time and project management, and im also committed to my overall wellness.”the answer adds some dimension to the question, and proves youve thought beyond the answer. youve actually changed your behavior to address the situation, even if you havent completely overcome the weakness.put yourself in the interviewers shoeshowever you decide to answer, debra yergen, author of “creating job security resource guide,” recommends job seekers imagine themselves sitting on the other side of the desk.“if you were doing the hiring, what would you be looking for? what would be your motivation for asking certain questions? wh
