Module 1, Unit1 School LifeTeaching plan for school lifeGood evening, everyone. It is my great honor to share my teaching ideas with you. Today my teaching topic is school life. Ill begin this lesson from five parts: analysis of the teaching material, the teaching methods, the studying methods, the teaching procedure, and blackboard design. Part 1 the analysis of teaching materialFirst, let me talk about the teaching material. The selected teaching material is a magazine article taken from the reading section of Module 1, Unit 1 of Advance with English. This reading passage is a vivid description of the school life in Manchester made by Wei Hua, a Chinese girl who once studied in the UK. The students who are expected to learn this unit are the new comers to high schools. They will certainly be curious about British high school life as well as their own school life. So the topic is an amazing one for the students, and it will definitely stimulate the students interest since they can imagine and arrange their own new school life. Furthermore, it also shows students the foreign culture and extends their eye vision. Naturally, they will have an appetite for the further English study. Therefore the unit 1 actually acts as an activator to lead students to learn the following unit better.1. The teaching aimsAccording to the new standard curriculum and based on the analysis of the teaching material, I have chosen the following as the teaching aims of my lesson:Knowledge aim: 1) To learn some useful words, expressions and sentence structures;2) To identify the differences in the school life between the UK and China.Ability aim: 1) To train the students reading ability of getting information by skimming and scanning;2) To enable the students to learn to talk about school life.Emotion aim:1) To promote the students love for their high school life;2) To develop their consciousness of culture differences.2. The teaching focus:1) To get the abilities of skimming and scanning to understand the whole meaning of the text. 2) To master key words, phrases and sentence structures.Words: experience, around, attend, devote, struggle, free, assembly, satisfaction, mean, drop;Phrases: asas, used to, be fond of, look back on, on average;Sentence structures: The usage of nonfinite verb3. The teaching difficulties:1) To identify the differences in the school life between the UK and China.2) To enable the students to learn to talk about school life.Part 2 the analysis of teaching methodsSecond, it is the analysis of the teaching methods. High school is a time of discovery, learning and hard work. So when teaching senior students, we should make every effort to encourage their initiative and creativity. A good teaching method requires that the teacher should have the leading effects. According to the analysis of the teaching material and the students learning background, I will use the following methods. Teaching methods:1) “Communicative” Approach2) “Task-based” language teaching 3) “scene activity” teaching 4)CAI (电脑辅助教学) Part 3 the analysis of studying methods Through the five-year-time English study, senior students in grade 1 master a certain amount of words and phrases and also have a general understanding of English culture. So students in the class are expected to be the main body, namely, most of the time in the class should be spent on the students. Thence senior students must develop a positive attitude towards English study. Teachers should do as follows:1）Basic learning strategy； The students can get the meaning of the words and phrase 2）Practice strategy； Practice can help the students get the general idea and have a better understanding of the language.3) Communication strategy Encourage them to speak English and develop their oral English. Part 4 arrangement of the teaching procedureStage1:lead-in stage (5mins)At the beginning of the lesson, I will put forward some questions. “After we enter the high school, we may find some differences the school life between the junior school and the high school. What differences do you find? And what kind of high school life would you like?1) Group work Divide the students into four groups. Then I will give students some time to discuss these questions and ask some members of the groups to answer the questions. During this process, I will conclude some features of Chinese school life. After finishing this process, Ill ask the students whats about the school life in the UK. Now we are going to read a magazine article which is written by an exchanging student. She has been studying in the UK for one year. Now she gives a clear brief introduction about her school life there. Purpose of the design:1) This method can arouse their learning interest. 2) Students can use the language knowledge they have learned.3) Through the warming-up period, I lead the topic to the text.Stage2: presentation (5mins) 1) To show some pictures about school life in the UK.2) To present the reading strategies: skimming and scanning. Skimming: to get a general idea of the article. Focus on the title, heading, captions, the first and last sentences of paragraphs, charts and pictures Scanning: to locate specific information about an article. Look for key words and phrases, dates and words in bold, italics or capital lettersStage 3: Reading (10mins)1) Skimming question:Group workHow does Wei Hua feel about her life in the UK?Whats the similarity and difference between the schools in China and the UK? Ask the students to pick out the useful expression from the text, give them more examples, and do some exercises to practice the language points.Stage 5: practice (5mins)1) Oral practice Pair work Make up a dialogue with the desk mate talking about Wei Huas school life. Use the newly words ,phrases and sentence structures to say something about the school life in our school. Purpose of the design:Most students can take their parts in the activities, especially for the students who have trouble in English study. In the group activities, they can speak a little English. Without doubt, this will encourage them to speak English and develop their oral English. Stage 6: summary (3mins)1) We have learned the reading ability of skimming and scanning.2) We learned the differences in school life between the UK and China.3) Based on the newly language points, we learn to describe our high school life.Stage 7: homework (2mins)1) To search on the Internet or go to the library to look for other differences in the school life between the UK and China.2) To work out a schedule for your high school life.3) Based on this passage, to write an article about your own high school life. Purpose of the design: Homework is so important and necessary for to master the knowledge they learned after class.
