一Li Mei puts her hand into the pocket, takes out her mobile phone and presses the talk key. “Hi, mum! Im on the bus. I should be home in about 10 minutes” Li Mei is one of many Chinese teenagers who live life “on the go” and use mobile phones. Mobile phones make it possible for us to talk to anyone from anywhere. Modern mobile phones are more than just phones- they can be used as cameras and radios, and to surf the Internet. Many mobile phones have features such as playing games and listening to the music.Mobile phones have changed our behavior and how we communicate. They are used everywhere-sometimes where they shouldnt. one headmaster says that phones are not allowed in the classroom. “If a phone starts ringing in the classroom, teachers and other students cannot work well.” “I dont dare to use the phone in school, because they will take I away from me,” says Hill, a student in London. Hill got his phone for his birthday, but his parents dont let him use it in school. Some parents worry about that their children will spend too much time and money on phone calls. Why are mobile phones so popular, especially among teenagers? The answer seems to be that we have a need to stay in touch with friends and family no matter where we are or what we are doing. Having a mobile phone also makes us feel safer, since we can call for help when we are in danger. Of course, to many teenagers it is not only a useful thing but also a way to have fun and be cool.1. Are mobile phones popular among young people?_2. Can Hill use his phone in school or not?_3. What do some parents worry about?_4. According to the passage, how many things can people do with their mobile phones?_5. Whats the main idea of the passage? _二2009宣武二P35The computer makes doing schoolwork easier for me than it was for my mom and dad. For example, when writing book reports and stories, I use Microsoft Word instead of a pen and paper. That way, after my teacher edits my work, I can go back and make revisions without having to rewrite the whole thing. And Microsoft Word has a spell check! I use it all the time. For English class, were reading The Outsiders, by E. Hinton. As a pre-reading assignment (作业), my teacher asked us to research teenage groups on the Internet. I tried Google, Encarta, and Yahoo first, and finally found an article on Time. com.For a geography assignment on the United States, I used Encarta to learn about the Mississippi River. I needed to find out how deep the river is, how its widths and depths are different what states it runs through, and what kinds of fish live in it. I used the information to show how the geography of a country influences its economy (经济). For example, the rivers trade paths, the number of fish caught in it and the tourists it attracts directly influence Southerners jobs and incomes (收入).I never go to the library to do research. It takes too much time. Since I live in New York City and both my parents work, getting to the library isnt always easy. For a big assignment or research project, I used to stay at the library to read, or sign out whatever books or magazines I needed. Now being able to find the information in my own living room makes everything a lot simpler. Online dictionaries and encyclopedias (百科全书) also save time.Sometimes, I think the computer spoils young people because its so easy- at least physically. But computers are not like television, which does the thinking for you. You still have to use your mind. I prefer using a computer. Easy, fun, and fast.1 Does the computer make doing schoolwork harder for the writer? _2. What does the writer use when he writes book reports and stories?_3. How does the writer complete a big assignment or research project?_4. What does the underlined word “spoils” mean in English?_5. Whats the main idea of this passage?_ 三 2009石景山一模P37One of the fastest passenger train in the world is the Eurostar, which covers the distance between London and Paris in just over two and a half hours- a journey which used to take five or six hours and always involved(包含) a slow boat crossing. If you take the Eurostar, you can leave London Waterloo at 4 oclock on a Friday afternoon and be in the centre of Paris at 6:35, in time for dinner. The train also goes to other places, such as Calais, Lille, Disneyworld Paris, and Brussels. One of the most exciting things about Eurostar is that it goes through a tunnel under the sea. This is called the Channel Tunnel(海峡隧道), and goes between Folkstone in England and Sangate in France. The tunnel is 31 miles long, and cost $21 billion to build. This part of the journey takes about 20 minutes and you dont really notice what it happening, but some people choose not to travel by the Eurostar because the idea of it worries them. The tunnel has been made safe enough, however, and there are two other runnels that people can get out of quickly if there is a fire or an accident. It is also possible to drive through the tunnel, but this takes much longer than the high-speed train. The trains have a top speed of 180mph (300kph), and run on special tracks (轨道). These tracks allow the train to go much faster. The trains are very comfortable just like all the other trains, and you can also buy plenty of food and drink in the restaurant car. There is just one thing that many people might feel a little pity-the train travels so fast, especially on the French side where it speeds up quite a lot. You cant really see anything out of the window.1. Does the Eurostar travel between London and Paris?_2. How long is the Channel Tunnel?_3. How many tunnels are there to help people get out of if there is a fire? _4. What makes the Eurostar go faster though the tunnel?_5. Whats special about the Eurostar? _ 四2008 北京中考P41The Amazon rainforest is home to millions of different kinds of animals, plants and birds. Like the rest of his family, the boy got the money by taking a little rubber from the trees in the forest. (The trees are not hurt when the rubber is taken.) But some people think too much about themselves and never think about the future. In 1980, the forest was burned to build roads, houses and factories. Chico was angry; he wanted to save the forest! We can make music ourselves if we play an instrument (乐器) or sing. We can hear music on CDs or tapes, on radio or television and even on the Internet. Music gives us pleasure. It can cheer us up, or excite us.Music can make us feel happy, sad, excited or calmall kinds of feelings. But what is it? Some people describe it as an artful(巧妙的)form of sounds across time. These sounds might be loud or soft, high or low, quick and short, or slow and long. The sounds need to keep on for some time in some kinds of forms to become music.Music, like language, is a special human form of communication. Also like language, there are many different kinds. In North America, people listen to jazz, rock, classical, folk, country, and many other kinds of music. Each kind of music has its own rules and “speaks” to us in its own way. What we think of music depends on where we live. What Americans are used to listening to might sound strange to someone from another culture. It might not even sound like music. And also you can find that every country has its own typical instruments to show their traditional music.Today, modern communications make it possible for us to listen to music from all over the world. In this way music from one part of the world could influence music from another part.Music goes along with many of activities. We dance to music. We sing songs at school. Many of us exercise to music. We hear music in cars and stores. Music comes with many important moments.Music pleases us. We listen to slow music, spiritual music, pop music, rock music, and opera. We have favorite performers. We hear music as the background in movies. Perhaps we go to the theater to see a musical movieplay with music, singing and often with dancing.Music is part of lives.1. As a popular saying goes, “Health is better than wealth.” Good health lets a person enjoy his life and get what he hopes for in his job. However, poor health may make a person lose his interest in the things around him. So health is necessary to ones life happiness. There are many ways to help us build up our health. We should keep a balanced diet. Too much meat and junk food are bad for our health. So we should eat more vegetables and fruits. According to doctors advice, we can have some bread, milk, an egg and enough fruit in the morning. For lunch, we can eat rice, vegetables, fruits and some fish or meat. In the evening, we can have some porridge with green beans, some vegetables and meat as well.Exercising every day is also necessary for us to stay healthy. We should plan our physical exercise according to our age and our physical condition. For example, the young can do sports like soccer and basketball, while Tai Ji Quan for the old. By doing exercise, students can stay away from diseases and study with more efficiency(效率)。It is clear that good health is connected to our spirits. We can overcome (克服) all kinds of difficulties and keep fit by holding a positive (积极的) attitude towards life. On one hand, some students go on working hard though they fail in exams sometimes. In the end, they get good marks because they think they can make it and never give up. On the other hand, other students may think that they can not do well in exams, so they decide to give up.All in all, we should try our best to keep healthy and enjoy our life every day.1. Does everyone want to have good health?_2. What can we eat for lunch according to the doctors advice?_3. Why can some students get good marks in the end?_4. What can we do to get good health?七 门头沟Internet is educational. Many people think children should be allowed to surf the Internet as they wish. In this way, they can look through different subjects on different kinds of websites according to their own interest. But in my opinion, children should always be watched while surfing the Internet. Many websites have information and pictures that children should not see. There are many things that children dont understand. All of these may have some bad influence on childrens development. Also, it is more dangerous to let children use chat rooms by themselves. Many parents tell their children not to talk to strangers in the street, so they should be careful of whom their children talk to on the Internet, too. Whats more, sitting in front of a computer for a long time isnt good for childrens eyes, so parents should monitor(监视) the time that children spend on the Internet. In a ward, children should be kept away from anything that could be bad for them. I strongly believe that it is necessary for parents to watch their children when they use the Internet.1. Is the Internet educational all the time?_2. What do parents tell children to do when they meet strangers in the street?_3. Should children sit in front of a computer for a long time?_4. Who can help children stay away from the bad influence on the Internet?_5. What does the writer want to tell us in the passage?_八 石景山Grow Painswas on television from 1985 to 1992. This was total of seven years, and it told over one hundred and sixty different stories. During its history, the show had seven producers and over forty writers. The program was about a family of six who lived on Long Island near New York. The parents were a working couple. The father was a doctor and the mother was a journalist. They had four children. The oldest child was Mike. He was the main reason for the programs huge success. Mike kept making trouble but was always loveable. From the first few episodes(剧集) of Grow painsMike was always getting into trouble. He was caught by the police for driving a car too fast. He told his parents that he would never ride a motorbike but then he hurt himself riding one. But in the last series he helped a young boy who had no home. And he asked his family to help him care for the boy. Though breaking his promise disappointed his parents, the way he cared for this boy made them proud to have him as their son. These stories are good examples of the two sides of Mikes nature. He was naughty but also a caring and warm person. He quickly became very popular, and his face was in every teen magazine and teenage girls bought thousands of photos and posters of him to decorate their bedroom walls.Perhaps another main reason why the program was popular in America is that most of its stories were about ordinary family problems. Many of the people watching the program had the same problems. Like Mikes parents, many parents who work often worry about their children and have no idea on how to care about them.Even now the show still appears on American TV sometimes. It was shown in other countries too, so it has now been enjoyed by people all over the world. What a great show!1. Did Grow Painsstart on television from 1985?_2.
