Today, many teenagers are overweight, and some of this is because of their bad eating habits. Most teenagers love food with a lot of fat, oil, salt and sugar. People often call this kind of food “junk food”. But bad eating habits go beyond fast food. We find many teenagers eat unhealthily. Some dont have breakfast before they go to school. During the day, some dont have a proper meal for lunch. In a recent survey at one school, scientists found that over two-thirds of the students didnt follow a healthy diet. They didnt like vegetables, and many of them didnt like to eat fruits. They preferred to eat food with a lot of salt, sugar or fat. Parents today also worry about their childrens diet. Some doctors give the following advice:l. Teenagers shouldnt eat too much junk food.2.Teenagers shouldnt eat food with too much salt. We can only make guesses, of course, but we can be sure that he will be different from what he is today, for man is slowly changing all the time. Let us take an obvious example. Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average, men are about three inches taller. Five hundred years is relatively a short period of time, so we may suppose that man will continue to grow taller. Again, in the modern world we use our brains a great deal. Even so, we still make use of only about 20% of the brains capacity(容量). As time goes on, however, we shall have to use our brains more and more, and finally we shall need our brains more and more, and finally we shall need larger ones! This is likely to bring a physical change too: the head, in particular the forehead, will grow larger. Nowadays our eyes are in constant use. In fact, we use them so much that very often they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over long period of time it is likely that mans eyes will grow stronger. On the other hand, we tend to make less use of our arms and legs. These, as a result, are likely to grow weaker. At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive because they are used a great deal in modern life. But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body altogether in course of time because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer. In the future, then, both sexes are likely to be bald. Perhaps all this gives the impression that future man will not be a very attractive creature to look at! This may well be true. All the same, in spite of all these changes, future man will still have a lot in common with us. He will still be a human being, with thoughts and motions similar to our own.( ) 1. The passage mainly tells us that _. A. Mans life will be different in the future B. Future man will look quite different from us C. Man is growing taller and uglier as time passes ( ) 2. What serves as the evidence that man is changing? A. Man has got stronger eyes now than he ever had. B. Mans arms and legs have become lighter and weaker. C. Man has been growing taller over the past 500 years.( ) 3. The change in mans size of the forehead is probably because _. A. he makes use of only 20% of the brains capacity B. his brain has grown larger over the past centuriesC. he will use his brain more and more as time goes on ( ) 4. Which of the following is TRUE about a human being in the future? A. He is hairless because hair is no longer useful. B. He has smaller eyes and wears better glasses. C. He thinks and feels in a different way.( ) 5. It is implied that _. A. human beings will become less attractive in the future B. body organs will become poorer if they are not used often C. human beings hope for a change in the future life 体裁: 议论文词数: 280 建议用时:9 mins得分: The Vieira family moved to the United States in 1981. At that time, they decided to stop speaking Spanish at home and only communicate in English. This was because they were now living in an English-speaking country. Now the Vieira children are adults, and they sometimes travel to Spain to visit their family and friends. But they cannot communicate with them. Unfortunately this is common. When people move to new countries, they often leave their own customs and mother language behind. This is a mistake because there are many benefits to knowing more than one language. One advantage of speaking more than one language is that you can communicate directly with more people around the world. You do not have to depend on others to talk for you, so youre more independent. People who know only one language must use others to help them communicate. Furthermore, speaking a second language also allows people to experience other cultures and customs more effectively. Local expressions, vocabulary, and even jokes can have a powerful effect on a persons understanding of another culture. So, knowing more than one language increases your knowledge of other cultures. Finally, having more multi-language speakers improves relationships between countries. If people from different countries can communicate well, the world can become closer. Countries will then have more respect for each other and better understand each others problems. The benefits of knowing more than one language are clear. In fact, there are no disadvantages. It is very sad that many people dont try to learn another language. It is even worse when people let themselves forget their mother language and become silenced.( ) 56. What is the passage mainly about? A. The benefits of learning other languages. B. The reasons why people come to America. C. The importance of
