We should go to see a doctor. John: But my English is poor. The doctor wont understand me. Gordon: I will teach you some English on the drive to the hospital. John: Great. I have a fever. And my stomach isnt right. I think I have the flu. 我头疼、发烧、胃也不舒服,我想我是得感冒了。 2) Running (流着): dripping, wet My nose is running. I am coughing a lot, and I have a fever. 我一直流鼻涕,老咳嗽,还发烧。 3) Symptoms (症状): signs, indications My symptoms include, a fever, a cough, and a running nose. 我的症状是:发烧、咳嗽还有流鼻涕。 4) Stuffy nose (鼻塞): full, cant breathe through the nose I have runny eyes and a stuffy nose. 我老流眼泪而且鼻子不透气。 5) Vomiting (呕吐):throwing up, After drinking too much beer, Tom vomited on his new shoes. 啤酒喝得多了后,汤姆吐到了自己的新鞋上。 Dialogue A Doc: Please tell me about your symptoms. Tim: My nose is constantly running, I have a fever and I vomited a few times. Do you think it is a cold? Doc: Sorry to say, no. I think it may be the flu. Tim: Is the flu more serious than a cold? Doc: Correct. The flu that is going around is rather bad. Tim: My friend Mary was also vomiting yesterday. Do you think she gave the flu to me. Doc: Maybe. You should come into to the hospital ASAP. Mary: Of course, I was vomiting for days. My nose ran for a week and my stomach hurt for longer than that. Tim : The doctor said we both had the same symptoms. Mary: Yesterday I had a dry throat and a runny eyes. Tim : Did you see a doctor? Mary: No, it wasnt very serious. I am fine today. It was just a mild cold. Tim : I am glad it wasnt the flu again. Having the flu was a serious illness. You are A-OK in my book. 谢谢你借给我200美元,你总是这么好。 2) Cubbyhole (小隔间): small space to put things in, office station Put your jacket in the cubbyhole and lets get to work. 把外衣放在小隔间里,开始干活吧。 3) Cubical (office cube)(办公隔间): work station, walled space My cubical is right next to a big window. 我的办公隔间挨着一扇大窗户。 4) Neat (整齐的): orderly, not messy My boss always has neat hair. 我老板的头发总是很整齐。 5) Shelf (架子、搁板): storage place, wooden plank Put the rest of the books on the shelf. 把剩下的书放在架子上。 Lesson: 课文 Creating a Professional Atmosphere 创造工作气氛 1) Keep your cubical or workstation neat and clean. 2) Fill your shelves with useful resource books and materials including: a dictionary or two, a thesaurus. 3) Keep something that motivates you in your office cube. (A picture of your loved one, a picture of money, or a picture of expensive but delicious food. 4) The language that you use affects your atmosphere, so always talk in a business way. Do this by using educated synonyms for: yes, no, thank you, etc. 5) Dont read newspapers at your desk. I read them during my coffee breaks, always trying to learn more about the industry. Gordon: I am glad to hear that. Molly : I appreciate your kindness, sir. Gordon: Dont mention it.
