My View on Job-hopping People have different attitudes towards their work. Some prefer to stick to one occupation as their lifelong career. These people are of the opinion that one can never do his work well unless he is devoted to only one job in his lifetime. So if one changes his job frequently, he will not get the necessary experience needed in his work. Others, on the other hand, like to change their jobs at times. In their opinion, people work in order to make more money. If they havea chance to get a better paid job, they will certainly try to get this chance. Besides, if a person does only one job all his life, he will certainly be bored with it My idea is that interest is the most important if one wants to excel others in his job. So if a person is not interested in his job, job hopping is normal and even necessary. Otherwise, he will suffer from his work, and inevitably, he is not likely to succeed in his career.Ownership of Houses in a Big CDirections: For this part, you are allowed thirty minutes to write a composition on the topic Ownership of Houses in a Big City in China. You must base your composition on the following instructions (given in Chinese):1根据上图描述该市住房产权的变化;2分析产生这些变化的原因;3说明这些变化对个人和社会产生的影响。Your composition should be no less than 120 words. Remember to write it neatly.Ownership of Houses in a Big City in China Great changes have taken place in the ownership of houses in cities in China from 1990 to 2000. While the number of state owned houses decreased, that of private houses increased. In 1990, seventyfive percent of the houses were state owned whereas only twenty five percent of the houses were private. In 2000, however, the proportion of state owned houses reduced to twenty percent and that of private houses increased to eighty percent. There are many reasons for the great change in the ownership of houses in cities. The development of the economy is the most important one. Thanks to this development, people make more money than they used to. As a result, they can set aside some money to buy houses after their daily necessities are satisfied. The measures the government adopts may be the next incentive. Nowadays, people can have access to various kinds of loans from banks when buying the house. The large supply of housing may be the last reason. Wherever you go, you can see houses of various designs and sizes available for people to choose. These changes will have a great influence on both the living standard of the individual and the productivity of the society. People can live in the spacious houses of their own and the government can increase the productivity by using the money from selling the houses.Student Use of ComputersDirections: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic Student Use of Computers. You should write at least 120 words and base your composition on the chart and the outline given below: 上图所示为1990年,1995年,2000年某校大学生使用计算机的情况,请描述其变化。1请说明发生这些过程的原因(可从计算机的用途,价格或社会发展等方面加以说明);2你认为目前大学生在计算机使用中有什么困难或问题?Student Use of Computers This chart shows the increase of student use of computers from the year 1990 to 2000. As we can see, in 1990 the average number of hours a student spends on the computer per week is 2. In 1995, however, the number doubles and in 2000, it soars to 20 hours per week. There are many causes for this change. For one thing, computers can do a lor of things that may be difficult for man to do, making mans work easier. So, many people turn to computers for help when they want to have their job done. For another, computers are becoming cheaper day by day. As a result, many universities install them in large numbers and many families can afford to buy one, consequently, they are always available for the students to use. But the prime reason, I think, is that with the development of society, computers are used in ahnost all walks of life. Those who are specialized in operating computers are badly needed. If a student is good at computer, chances will be greater for him to get a job. Many problems also arise in students use of computers. One problem is that some students spend too much time sitting in front of their computers, as a result, their bealth is affected. The other problem is that some students chat or play video games for a long time on computers, wasting a lot of their precious time. So it is suggested that these students make a scientific and positive use of the computers. An Eye-witness Account of a TrafficDirections: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write An Eye-witness Account of a Traffic Accident. You should write at least 120 words, according to the outline given below in Chinese. An Eye-witness Account of a Traffic Accident The car accident happened at about 7:30 on the morning of April 6th, 2003 when I was on my way to school. It was raining heavily, and the road was very slippery. Three little boys were going in front of me, each riding on a bike, talking loudly with each other while they rode. One of the boys didnt weara raincoat; instead he was holding an umbrella in one hand, and the handle of the bike in another. As he turned left to Hongqiao Road, a car came out at a high speed from behind a truck parked on the corner. Both the boy and the driver acted quickly, but it was too late. I heard a big noise and saw the boy falling down and an umbrella thrown away. I was completely shocked. I think three factors attributed to this tragedy. The first factor is the boys absent mindedness. He was talking all the way, dangerously holding an umbrella while riding the bike. The second factor is the bad weather and the slippery road, which makes it hard for the driver to bring the car to a full stop abruptly. The last factor was the improperly parked truck, which was big enough to make the road conditions invisible to the driver and students who were going to make a turn.Generation Gap A few years ago it was fashionable to speak of a generation gap. Parents complained that children didnt show them proper respect and obedience, while children complained that their parents didnt understand them at all. Many critics argue that it is built into the fabric of our society. One cause of the generation gap is the opportunity that young people have to choose their own life. In traditional socieries, children live in the same area as their parents, marry people their parents know and approve of, and often continue the family occupation. In our society, people often move out of the home at an early age, marry or live with people their parents have never met, and choose occupations that are rather different. In our upwardly mobile society, parents often expect their children to be better than them. However, these ambitions for their children are another cause of the division between them. Often they discover that they have very little in common. Finally, the speed of change in our society is another cause of it. In a traditional culture, people are valued for their wisdom, but in our society the knowledge of a lifetime may become out of date. The young and the old seem to live in two very different worlds, separated by different skills and abilities. No doubt, the generation gap will continue to be a feature of our life for some time to come. Its causes are rooted in the freedoms and opportunities of our society, and in the rapid pace at which society changes.Cheating On Exams(1). With the development of the society, people pay more and more attention to education. As a result, thousands of students take part in various examinations. However, some students have been found cheating on their exams. Some of them copy from each others, some took out their textbooks or reference books to copy, some copied from small pieces of paper on which they had prepared for the exam, still some used the modern communication tools such as BP, mobile phone as a way to cheat on exams. Then, whats the effect of cheating on exam? There are three factors for this. First, it results in an unfair competition and will destroy the creativity of those bright students. Second, it will ruin the students self-confidence in the long run. Third, under that kind of circumstances, the students graduated from the schools will not be the one who can meet the need of the society. However, how to stop cheating on exam? In my opinion, there are two ways we can adopt. First, a severe punishment should be put into effect to prevent students from cheating. Second, great effort should be made to make students understand what kind of person the society needs and try to improve their self-confidence. January 12. 2002Dear Mr. President,My name is Li Ming. I am a sophomore of the law school. As the school year is drawing to a close, I venture to write a letter to you about the canteen service on campus which has given rise to much complaint among students. The focus of the complaint is the poor quality of the food. The rice is just like bullets and the buns are like hand grenades. They are too hard for us to chew. And the vegetables are so overcooked as to lose their nutrients. The fish and meat are not given full measure. The only thing we are satisfied with is the free soup. However, the price of the food is surprisingly high. If we have 3 meals all in the canteen, at least twelve yuan is gone to keep our body and soul together. As a result, many of us go out to have meals.Honestly speaking, the dining environment has been improved, with the wall painted and some Chinese calligraphy works posted up. But there are only two canteens on the campus. As the number of students is ever increasing, there is not enough space and seats to allow us to have our meals there. The attitude of the service staff to the students is not hospitable at all.All in all, there is still much room for improvement as far as the canteen service is concerned. I hope we will not suffer for another two years.Best regards.Sincerely YoursLi MingHobbies and Interests From Monday until Friday most people are busyworking or studying, but in the evenings and off weekends they are free to relax and enjoy themselves. Some watch television or go to the movies;others participate in sports. It depends on individual interests. There are many different ways to spend our spare time. Almost everyone has some kind of hobby. It may be anything from collecting stamps to making model airplanes. Some hobbies are worth a lot of money; others are valuable only to their owners. I know a man Who has a coin collection worth several thousand yuan. A short time ago he bought a rare ten-yuan piece worth 250 yuan. He was very happy about the purchase and thought the price was reasonable, on the other hand, my son collects match boxes. He has almost 600 of them but I doubt if they are wortfi any money. However, to my son they are extremely valuable. Nothing makes him happier than to find a new match-box for his collection. Thats what a hobby means, i guess. It is something we like to do in our spare time simply for the fun of. it. The value in money is not important, but the pleasure it gives us is.Friends1. Friends are very important to us. When in trouble, we need friends to offer us en couragement and help. With success achieved, we also need friends to share our joys. Its hard to imagine life without friendship! A person should make as many friends as he can. The more friends he has, the more meaningful his life will be. Similarly, a country, too, needs friends. China today, for example, has friends all over the world. With the open policy being successfully carried out, she is certain to make more friends in the future. However, real friends are not easy to find. Thats why we highly value our friend ship with them. False friends also exist. They may have a bad influence on our character and are even worse open enemies. Therefore, it is essential we take care in making friends. How to Succeed in a Job Interview1. Nowadays, in an ever tighter job market, great importance has been attached to an interview by both the employer and the applicant. The interview, so to speak, has become indispensable for getting a satisfactory job. On the one hand, the interviewer can take advantage of the occasion to learn about the candidates, such as their work experiences, education and their personalities, so as to pick out the right candidates for the company. One the other hand, the interviewee can make use of the opportunity to get to know the job he is going to take up, the credibility of the firm to which he has applied, and the working conditions as well.Essential as it is, the job interview is far from fearful. Well begun, half done. Excellent performance in it will enable the would-be employee secure the job. But how can one succeed in it?First of all, the interviewee has to pay attention to his or her appearance. Though we can never judge a person by his appearance, the first impression is always where we start. Secondly, good manners are equally important. The interviewee has to be neither too proud nor too timid. Just be courteous. Thirdly, the interviewee must demonstrate his aptitude and skills for the job and knowledge about the job-related areas; he must express himself clearly and confidently. Last but not the least, the interviewee ought to be honest about his or her personal as well as academic background, for honesty is the best policy. To sum up, the job interview is indeed important. There is no need to be nervous, however, if the interviewee has made full preparations for it and given a fairly confident and honest performance, his or her success can be ensuredHarmfulness of Fake Commodities假冒伪劣商品的危害1. Nowadays in the society, there are enormous fake commodities. When you go to the supermarket, you may buy some fake food commodities. When you go to the pharmacists, you may buy some fake medicine. The deep root of this phenomenon lies in someones greed for money. In order to get a large amount of money in a short time, they try every means to produce fake commodities, without any regard for other peoples benefit and health.Fake commodities can do great harm to both consumers and society. For example, when a person bought fake medicine, it was useless in curing his disease and really a waste of money. Sometimes fake medicine can even cause death. Fake commodities are usually sold in a lower price. It causes unfair competition in the market economy and puts the whole society in disorderSome People Like Different Friends.Others Like Similar Friends. Comparethe Advantages of These Two Kinds ofFriends. Which Kind of Friends Do YouPrefer? Explain Why. It is universally known that friendship is one of the eternal themes in the literature of all languages. This is because human beings were born to need the warmth and laughter of friends. However it is impossible for us to make friends with everybody. We have to choose true friends. Some of us like similar friends, while others different friends. Personally,I prefer both. It goes Without saying that having similar friends has many advantages, We can feel a sense of strength when we have a group of old friends who would share our sufferings and happiness. Moreover, old friends always know how to maintain mutual trust and how to avoid potential friction. I always feel delighted when I meet an old friend after a long departure. Immediately, hearty laughter fills the atmosphere. Nevertheless I believe that a mixture of friends is equalty advantageous. In the first place, frequent contact with different friends broadens my world outlook. For instance,I have found, it a real treasure to have so many friends on the campus who often help, me reinforce my beliefs. Secondly, I have found that different friends cannot only lead to new adventures but alse show me new avenues in life.Thirdly, they can help me with whatever difficulties I encounter in life To conclude, I prefer to have both types of friends and as many as possible. Of course,I will not forget friends wisely. What Your Opinion About Clothes? When early man invented clothes, he probably wanted to keep warm. I am sure he never intended that it should become as elaborate as it has become today. For many a year, traditional clothes and modern clothes have been in competition as to which of them make the wearer more beautiful. But it does seem that a lot of modern clothes are simpler and more practical. Perhaps we are moving back to the age of cavemen who wore clothes for practical purposes. Modern clothes are definitely more practical as against traditional clothes. Almost all people now wear modern clothes. Nowadays even more and more people wear casual clothes. Jeans are everywhere except at formal parties.T-shirts are common, too. They look comfortable and fashionable. However, there are also a lot of people who take the trouble to dress well in formal clothes like shirts, trousers and suits. I find them smart, too. But then, it is important to hold on to our topic. In my opinion, each type of dress has its place. Modern clothes are ideal for most
