个人说明英文样例 1PERSONAL STATEMENT(通讯专业,攻读硕士) STATEMENT OF PURPOSEWith intense interest in network communication, I am writing to apply for acceptance into your graduate program for advanced training.I first developed this interest in 1995,when I was still an undergraduate majoring in automatic control. I tried to write some database programs to be applied on a LAN That proved to be a tough job, but I successfully finished it, winning substantial monetary benefit for myself. But more importantly, I discovered where my true academic interest lay and made up my mind as to what kind of career I would pursue. The choice of network communication for a career was no accident for me. The National University of Defense Technology, where I did my undergraduate studies, offered many courses that helped to prepare me for network communication work, such as mathematics, computer hardware and computer software. To further ground myself in the field of network communication, I took a host of courses with the universitys Department of Computer Science, like networking technologies and TCP/IP transport. I also taught myself some typical NOS, such as Netware.Upon graduation in 1996, I have been working with BC (Beijing Center). My duties have ranged from monitoring channel error rate to utilizing and maintaining modem, including LAN management & maintenance and other things relevant to data communication. With the heavy working load, I have accumulated rich experience and developed a strong capacity for independent research. In 1997, I attended CNE training programs (Novell Certified Network Engineer). This training furthered my understanding of network communication and made my knowledge in this area more systematic. It also helped to clear up my confusions about optimizing LAN performance.I have therefore equipped myself with both adequate theoretical knowledge and rich working experiences in Data Communication. I believe I am able to complete the graduate study successfully.Graduate studies in network communication will not only satisfy my intellectual curiosity but also enable me to make significant contributions to this countrys National Information Networks, equivalent to Americas concept of information superhighway. As much expertise as I have now, I feel that I cannot yet play any leading role in state-of-the-art research. I need to upgrade myself further so as to keep pace with the new technologies that keep advancing.I am happy to have learned that your department offers some excellent courses in advanced technologies and that it provides opportunities for the full development of individual capacity and originality. I think it is one of the best places for me to undertake my graduate studies. Among the various subareas of network communication, I am especially interested in the following; (1) Network Communication, (2) Distribute Computing, and (3) Computer Architecture. Any of your suggestions about my specialty orientation will be highly appreciated.Personal Statement(自动控制专业,攻读硕士)STATEMENT OF PURPOSELast year, I learned something that few young people of early 20s would want to learn. This is, anguish is an integral part of life. On March 31, 1996, a day I shall never forget, my father passed away, having suffered a heavy heart attack. Until then, I had not given much thought to the concept of death, and never expected to lose someone so close to me so suddenly. The burden of life thus came to weigh don on me without any warning. My fathers death marked the end of an era for me. Before that, my life was so smooth that I never seemed to have a care in the world. Having been brought up in a loving family, I distinguished myself in all of my grade school years, always the best of the class. In the highly competitive National University Entrance Examinations that are held annually nationwide, I scored as the second best in my hometown Tianjin, one of Chinas largest cities that sent over 20,000 youngsters to the exams together with me that year. With that, I gained acceptance into the Qinghua (otherwise known as Tsinghua) University, arguably Chinas best higher learning institution. I performed so well at the university that I won scholarships for three years in a row. I was also awarded with a number of other honors.Overnight, everything changed. With my mothers low salary, the family could hardly sustain itself, not to speak of putting two people, my sister and myself, through the university. It therefore fell on me, the elder of the two children, to support the family. When the loss of my father finally sank in my first reaction was to shrink from my new obligations. But I quickly reclaimed my sense of responsibility and proceeded to create a new life for me and my family out of the shattered pieces of the life we had before. As few students in China can cover all his or her expenses with scholarships only, I began to work part-time. I have since served as a helper in the library, a waiter in a cafeteria, and an assistant in a number of research projects. Inevitably, these jobs have put a dent to my academic performance at the university. I have, however, gained more experiences an individual, which have helped me attain more maturity and a stronger sense of purpose, not only than I had before but also than most people of my age generally have. Through these experiences, I have not only solved my financial problems but also received an education that I could not have received in the classroom. By learning and making use of my strengths that I never knew existed, I have brought forth my true self to meet the worldly challenges.I first chose engineering for a career when I was in high school. My father, a chief engineer in an automobile engine plant for many years, was the main source of inspiration for this choice. He and long working hours that was sometimes associated with his job. Having watched him work other hand, I often shared my fathers pleasure an sense of accomplishment, as he led the plant in achieving technological innovations, averting emergencies or otherwise reaching a research goal. As trying as the field might be, I have found the profession intellectually engaging and emotionally satisfying. On the basis of such considerations, I decided, with the full support of my father, to follow my father in his footsteps and make myself an engineer as well.Last summer, I took part as a research assistant in a project that used ANNs (Artificial Neural Networks) in Naphthas RVP modeling. In this project, we created a naphtha raid vapor pressure model of process data from an HYSIM process simulation. The ANNs based on a feedforward architecture and a back-propagation technique alternately using negative and conjugate gradients was used in the model building. The accuracy of the model is within 1.185% of the target value. Thanks to my knowledge in this field, I was later on chosen to develop a CAI (computer aided instruction) software of the ANNs as part of my graduation project. The CAI of the three most frequently used ANNs (Forward Networks, Hopfield Networks, and Self-Organizing Networks) was thus created. I used a combination of different languages in designing the software, compiling the user interface part in Visual Basic and the training algorithm part in C+. I believe that the successful completion of the project demonstrates my proficiency and potential in both computer programming and theoretical analysis. The project re-enforced the special interest that I had long entertained in the area of ANNs.Another area of particular interest to me is robot control, for which I took a number of courses and read numerous journal articles. I am currently also planning to learn more about the applications of the LQG (Linear Quadratic Gaussian) controller. My ultimate goal is to obtain a teaching position at a university or research institution. For that, I intend to eventually earn a Ph. D. degree. The drive to succeed is now deeply ingrained in my character. Not content with just getting by, I want to get ahead. To pursue graduate studies, I have given up an opportunity to be admitted to the Ms Program in the Department of Automation of the Tsinghua University, a move that has given rise to quite some uncertainty to my future. But I have heard that, if a fog prevents the sailor of a small boat from seeing the buoy marking his course, he turns the boat quickly in small circles, knowing that the waves he makes will rock the buoy in his vicinity. He then stops to listen ad observe, and repeats the procedure, if necessary, until he hears the buoy clang. The making of these waves may engender some danger, but that is a small risk to take for finding where his course lies. A boat that stays in the harbor never encounters any danger, but it does not get anywhere either.Personal Statement(材料工程专业,攻读硕士)STATEMENT OF PURTOSEBrought up in a shabby and cramped small apartment, I was fascinated in my childhood by the exquisite houses and condominiums I watched on TV in images that had been shot in the developed countries. It has since been my dream to build up in China the same kind of quality human habitat. I believe that this dream can come true if I get to undertake advanced studies in architecture at your university.I am now erecting fundamental building blocks towards the realization of my dream at the Harbin Institute of Technology (known as HIT), from which I am scheduled to graduate next year. This elite institution accepted me in 1995 in recognition of my strong performance in the National University Entrance Examinations, held once every year nationwide to screen high school graduates for higher education. Here, I have received vigorous training in structure engineering, an area of study that is essential to the countrys frenzied construction industry.Deeply in love with my chosen area of studies, I have turned my mind into an engine of creativity during three years of disciplined learning. Courses of my major, particularly structure mechanics, architecture material, and survey of engineering, fascinate me so much that I am sometimes completely enthralled in studying them. Looking now at the reinforced concrete structures around me, I not only detect the configuration inside easily but also arrive at some preliminary assessment of its strengths and weaknesses quickly. Everything that comes into my sight presents itself in the framework of some form of structure. Carefully groomed as the only child in my family, I cannot stand being the second best in any group and situation, especially when it comes to a contest of intellectual caliber. At HIT, I beat the odds and excelled all most of my fellow students in academic studies, making myself the undisputed academic leader of the class. Students and faculty alike are so accustomed to my academic excellence that everybody would be surprised in class if I happen not to be able to answer a question better than others even once. My motto is : one either comes out the first, or he is a failure. The university has awarded me a string of scholarships and other accolades in praise of my academic achievements. But I am no bookworm. In fact, I am constantly engaged in a host of extracurricular activities, for which I have been conferred a Special Commendation for Participation in Social Activities. I have run and won the position of monitor in my class during my first semester, which made me a natural student leader. Active on campus, I was then appointed the recreation officer of the Student Association, in charge of organizing entertainment and other recreational events for the benefit of the students. I now also serve as the president of the Society of Student Architects and Engineers. Such involvement in the student affairs has tempered my skills in leadership, organization and communication. But more importantly, it has broadened my horizon and deepened my insights in terms of what constitutes beauty, grace and strength, which I believe will always help me in my engineering designs.I would like to mention here my passion for a uniquely oriental sport called weiqi, known as the go in the English parlance. An intricate chess game, it is challenging to even the best and brightest minds. One usually has to be a full-time player to play it well. Not to be daunted, I not only joined the Weiqi Club on campus but also taken part in a national contest, in which I won the 12th place and the HIT team I led won the 3rd place. My achievement in the weiqi sport testifies to my superior mental power and intellectual resourcefulness. To tap fully into my intellectual resources, I would like to take up the greater challenges of helping to design my countrys skylines in the 21st century. For that, I need better training that what I have received. An American education will expose mw to new perspectives and endow me with new inspirations. When I get to combine my Chinese perspectives with those of the West, I should have no trouble fulfilling my ambition of cutting one of the best structure engineers in the world. With that, I want to design and build the most beautiful structures in China. To ensure both my future and that of my countrys construction industry, I sincerely hope that I could be admitted into your university. I am confident that, if I can be lucky enough to study under your seasoned guidance and with your kind financial assistance, many people in China will never have to endure the kind of shabby and inconvenient apartments that I endured as a child.Personal Statement(空气动力专业,攻读博士)PERSONAL STATEMENTBy applying for Ph. D. studies at your university, I am seeking to fulfill a childhood dream to understand and appreciate the wonders of nature. Born and brought up in a small city on the Yun-Gui plateau in southwest China, I was full of curiosity in my childhood as I observed the dramatic weather changes there. In this city surrounded by mountains, seasons would come and go with clear-cut perimeters. Watching this year in and year out for 17 years, I could not help asking what forces were causing such fascinating alterations. With a mystified mind, I graduated in 1989 into the Nanjing Institute of Meteorology to major in synoptic dynamics. The institute offers probably the best academic programs of its kind in China. As a highly motivated undergraduate, I took 21 courses in meteorology, scoring an outstanding GPA of 91.53/100 (3.79/4). In related subjects such as mathematics, physics and computer science, I did well, too, scoring a GPA of 90.91/100 (1.69-4). My overall GPA ranked the second among about 110 students of my year, winning me the Institute Scholarship for 4 consecutive years. In 1992, I was designated an Excellent Student, the highest honor of the school, given to only one student of each grade in four years.Upon the completion of my undergraduate studies in 1993, my excellent academic records won me easy acceptance into a graduate program at a research center jointly run by the Chinese Academy of Meteorology Sciences and the Nanjing Institute of Meteorology. I worked under the supervision of my advisor, the distinguished Professor Ding Yihui, vice-chairman of the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences and now chairman of National Climate Center. I kept myself informed of the latest meteorology findings by reading a wide selection of reference materials, among which are Atmospheric Sciences, Acta, Meteo, Sinica. Under the seasoned guidance of Professor Ding and other noted meteorologists, whom I engaged in regular discussions at seminars and other occasions, I conscientiously trained myself in independent research. I would take care of the nitty-gritty of any projects on my own. Building upon my undergraduate record, I scored a graduate Study of Heavy Rainfall Influenced by Typhoon No.9406 was not only highly rated by my professors but also published inOn the strength of my academic records, I obtained the position of a researcher at NMC (spell it out, please) in mid 1993, when I received my Masters Degree. I have since taken part in three projects: (A) the Development and Research of Meso - Scale Numerical Forecast System in Beijing Area, (B) the Importation and Development of LAPS/RAMS Analysis - Forecast System, and (C) the Development and Application of A Limited - Area Model With Variable Resolution. In these projects, I have put my academic training into actual practice and got acquainted with the state of the test results of the parallel version and serial version of MM5. In project B, I investigated into the RAMS extensively and presented a report on its principles and applications at NMC. Last May, I worked with experts from NOAA and IBM Corp. to install the LAPS/RAMS system. After that, I succeeded in using new topography data in RAMS and added the verification mechanism to the whole system. Now I am working on project C, in which I have increased the number of vertical levels of the limited-area model with variable resolution from 5 to 20. In order to find definite effects of different resolutions in model forecast, I am trying to build three models with different resolutions, unit grid and a model with varying resolutions based on the operational limited-are model in NMC. We are planning to make further experiments based on those results. In an effort to better equip myself, I have been conscientiously enhancing my computer skills and expertise in the last two years. I took classes to learn the UNIX Operation System and SP2 computer, and I have taught myself Parallel Programming, Message Passing Library on SP2, RS/6000 Power2 Fortran Programming, among others. Taking advantage of the learning opportunities at work, I have mastered the Sp2, Cray as well as the PC, and become versed in graphics software, GRADS and NCAR. With these computer skills, I am now more capable of numerical forecast than ever before.I have, ho
