The Chinese government has published a list of 24 guidelines on how to take better care of parents. They are a modern update to 24 old stories about respectful children from the Yuan Dynasty. The guidelines list 24 things to do with parents, including giving them a call every week, teaching them to use the internet, and supporting single parents remarriage. Though these may not suit everyone, the underlying idea of taking better care of parents not only through financial support but with closer communication, has struck a cord with many.I am very busy with work and my own family, that I may have ignored my parents. Its good to be reminded, and we should talk to our parents more. Our young people should keep alive this Chinese tradition. My son is very good to me, thats why I am so healthy. I am 84 year old!The guidelines stem from a Yuan Dynasty book, about 24 filial-hearted children who treated their parents very well. It is at the core of Chinese culture to value family and the older generation. And experts say its a value younger generations should never forget.Liu Shinan, Senior Editor, China Daily, said, Its THIS concept that encourages the whole nation to be united as one, in the face of disasters, wars and hardships.Statistics show more than 10% of population is above 60 years old. And more than half of elderly parents live alone. Frequent overtime work demands and few holidays make it difficult for people to find time for their parents. But apart from family support, more people are expecting better elderly care from the government. The ageing population presents a much wider social concern. Most families only have one child. Caring for the elderly puts a big pressure on young people. Its so important to increase social pension, now that we cant afford to go to an elderly care center. It will help a great deal to cut my travel expenses. One time, I spent around 600 yuan on the toll ways for one trip. I will definitely go for a ride once the toll ways open for free, it will be a totally different experience to drive on free roads. However, Xiao Yang who mostly drives to get home from work, says the new rule could bring more traffic to the road.Families who initially planned to go for a day tour may change their plan and go for a longer tour. It may start a traffic jam. Why couldnt the roads open for free everyday?Last year, traffic authorities in 16-provinces released reports on their toll ways, saying most of the roads are heavily in debt. The report shows many of the provinces owe over 1-billion-yuan for toll road construction, with only four including Beijing recording profits. However, drivers are becoming concerned some toll roads are luring money long after the debts have been repaid.Cheng Shidong, a researcher with the Institute of Comprehensive Transportation of National Development and Reform Commission, says it has to do with the toll ways management system. At first, the roads were managed individually, and now, the toll roads are wrapped in a package and managed by local governments. Take Beijing for example, the money collected from all toll ways, no matter from Beijing-Tangshan expressway or Beijing-Shijiazhuang expressway, are governed by the same body, and the local authority will use the money to cover the debts for those toll ways that fail to generate profits. Cheng adds that opening toll ways for free on public holidays is not an ideal solution to curb traffic congestion or excessive toll way charges. The toll ways are always busy during holidays and they may become even more congested if cars are allowed to go through for free. Plus, for a long-term solution, local governments can re-negotiate their commission contracts with toll way management companies to cut down the fee collection period or the charging standard. Toll roads across the country can charge for a maximum of 30 years.China has over 74-thousand kilometers of highways, 95-percent of which are toll roads.2012.6英语四级阅读:绿茶11条健康功效 2012年05月17日 12:58 来源: cet4v D 我要评论(0)Heres a list of some of its amazing benefits benefits that you may not have been aware of. It added that those of authorized availability, are mainly used to improve the consumers memory, reduce physical fatigue and boost the immune system. The greatest numbers were in Russia and Poland, the fewest in Great Britain.Gottfried also said that people with lower education or household income levels, as well as those under 35 years old, were more likely to believe in an apocalypse during their lifetime or in 2012, or have anxiety over the prospect.Perhaps those who are older have lived long enough to not be as concerned with what happens to their future, she explained.Ipsos questioned people in China, Turkey, Russia, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, the United States, Argentina, Hungary, Poland, Sweden, France, Spain, Belgium, Canada, Australia, Italy, South Africa, Great Britain, Indonesia, Germany. (0)William Lawlis Pace, the holder of the Guinness World Record for living the longest with a bullet in the head, has died aged 103, the Guardian reported. He was accidentally shot almost 95 years ago in 1917 by his older brother with their fathers .22 caliber rifle.1917年,威廉姆的哥哥拿父亲的点22口径的来复枪不小心击中了威廉姆的头部。 His son said doctors in his home state of Texas left the bullet in place, fearing that surgery might cause brain damage. (0) The prime site of nostalgia is always whatever happened, or is thought to have happened, in the decade between forty and fifty years past. What drives the cycle isnt, in the first instance, the people watching and listening; its the producers who help create and nurture the preferred past and then push their work on the audience. Though pop culture is most often performed by the young, the directors and programmers and gatekeepersthe suits who control and create its conditions, who make the calls and choose the playersare, and always have been, largely forty-somethings. Forty years past is the potently fascinating time just as we arrived, when our parents were youthful and in love, the Edenic period preceding the fallen state recorded in our actual memories. The forty-year rule is, of course, not immutable, and its cycle carries epicycles within it: the twenty-year cycle, for instance, by which the forty-somethings recall their teen-age years. But it is the forty-years-on reproduction of a thing that most often proves more concentrated and powerful than the original. And so, if we can hang on, it will be in the twenty-fifties that the manners and meanings of the Obama era will be truly revealed: only then will we know our own essence. (0)According to Britains national happiness survey, having children brings an increased sense of meaning into peoples lives, the Daily Mail reported. The latest measure of the countrys well-being Thursday revealed that having children does not necessarily make people happier or more satisfied with their lot. But it does make them feel they have more of a reason for living. The survey, carried out among 80,000 people, asked four questions: how satisfied they were with their lives, to what extent their lives were worthwhile, how happy they were yesterday, and how anxious they felt yesterday. It was conducted by the Office for National Statistics. The researchers also acknowledged for the first time that the figures show that married people are happier than everyone else, and that the most miserable are those who are divorced or separated. People who are married or in civil partnerships reported the highest average levels of life satisfaction, significantly higher than cohabiting couples. The lowest average rating was reported by people who are divorced or separated, including those who have dissolved civil partnerships, the report said. (0)EFs dream scholarship, which is valued at one million yuan, is a series of online English training lessons. Upon receiving the scholarship, students will be able to join online oral English classes at any time and chat with native English teachers as they please.Vice CEO of the Education First Group Chen-Li granted students these scholarships on Tuesday in Beijing. She explained why EF decided to provide these students with this innovative language training program, rather than direct financial assistance. We could just as well provide them with cash, and they could well spend it on anything that they feel easier. To work on, it takes a serious consideration if we offer them access to the course itself and also offer them an opportunity to really implement rather than dream, keep dreaming.Chen Li believes that knowledge is the best charity and added that the dream scholarship would bring direct benefit to students from families with financial difficulties.Qian Ruoqing, a sophomore student with Beijing Normal University, is one of the 100 students to receive the scholarship. Qian Ruoqing said she would grasp any opportunity she could to improve her English. In her mind, learning with EF teachers online makes her feel more comfortable.I would be a bit shy in a real classroom, and sometimes I feel nervous when asked to stand up by teachers to answer a question. It would be much easier for me to accept such an online teaching format. In fact, Beijing Normal University is the second university to embrace EFs dream scholarship program, after the Shanghai-based East China Normal University since the private education company formally began the program in March last year. With the approaching May Day holiday, many Chinese are looking to leave crowded big cities.
