专题训练卷(六)学海导航高中新课标总复习(第二轮)英语专题训练卷(六) (1)(13 min.)(长郡中学2012届高三第五次月考试题)d. r. gaul middle school is in union, maine, a blueberryfarming town where the summer fair finds kids competing in pig scrambles and pieeating contests.gaul, with about 170 seventh and eighth graders, has its own history of lower level academic achievement. one likely reason: education beyond the basic requirements hasnt always been a top priority for families who have worked the same land for generations. here, few adults have college degrees, and outsiders (teachers included) are often kept at a respectful distance.since 2002, gauls students have been divided into four classes, each of them taught almost every subject by two teachers. the goal: to find common threads across disciplines to help students create a big picture that gives fresh meaning and context to their classwork and sparks motivation for learning.working within state guidelines, each team makes its individual schedules and lesson plans, incorporating nontextbook literature, handson lab work and field trips. if students are covering the civil war in social studies, theyre reading the red badge of courage or some other period literature in english class. in science, they study the viruses and bacteria that caused many deaths in the war.team teaching isnt unusual. about 77 percent of middle schools now employ some form of it, says john lounsbury, consulting editor for the national middle school association. but most schools use four or five person teams, which gaul tried before considering twoperson teams more effective. gaul supports the team concept by “looping” classes (跟班) so that the same two teachers stick with the same teens through seventh and eighth grades. combining teams and looping creates an extremely strong bond between teacher and student. “it also”, says teacher beth ahlholm, “allows us to build an excellent relationship with parents.”ahlholm and teammate madelon kelly are fully aware how many glazed looks they see in the classroom, but they know 72 percent of their eighthgraders met maines reading standard last year double the statewide average. only 31 percent met the math standard, still better than the state average (21 percent). their students also beat the state average in writing and science. and in 2006, gaul was one of 47 schools in the state to see testing gains of at least 20 percent in four of the previous five years, coinciding roughly with team teachings arrival.a classroom with context1. _ of the schoolbeing a farming town, gaul achieved little in 2. _ found in children. and its important to recognize the presence of lead in childrens bodies because lead is very harmful.children have the tendency to go around and put things in their mouths like paint peelings. this is one of the main causes of lead poisoning. it has also been found that children born in poor families have higher chances of getting exposed to lead.some of the common symptoms of lead poisoning in children are headaches, stomach pains, hair loss, muscle weakness, and weight loss, etc.lead poisoning can have severe effects and can lead to heart diseases, kidney diseases and neurological(神经系统的) problems. it can also result in mental dullness and a low iq level. there have been cases where lead poisoning proved to be terminal for children.its difficult to easily recognize whether a child is affected by lead poisoning, as the symptoms of this disease can occur due to some other medical problems. therefore, children under the age of 6 should regularly be checked to know the level of lead in their blood through blood tests. its possible to completely cure a child with lead poisoning through treatment. usually the oral medicine chelator(螯合剂)is given to the children. sometimes, children are given an injection(注射) for reducing the lead level. children who have very high level of lead in their blood would need treatment for a long period of time and would also be put on a special diet.parents have to take certain precautions to lower the chance of lead poisoning in children. cleaning the house regularly and removing shoes at the door after coming in from outside will prevent the lead particles from entering the house. children should be put on a healthy diet, containing high proportions(比例)of calcium and iron, such as eggs, milk, fruits, potatoes, etc. which helps to keep the lead levels in control, in the childrens bodies.in short, its a must to be cautious and careful, and protect your children from the horrible consequences of lead (3)(10 min.)the world bank, the united nations and the london school of hygiene and tropical medicine did a study to urge handwashing around the world. they found that one million lives could be saved each year if people washed their hands with soap often. they said that programs to increase handwashing with soap could be among the most effective ways to reduce infectious diseases. doctors say, many diseases can be prevented from spreading by handwashing. these include pinworms(寄生虫), influenza(流行性感冒), the common cold, hepatitis(肝炎)a, meningitis(脑膜炎)and infectious diarrhea (腹泻)handwashing destroys germs from other people, animals or objects a person has touched. when people get bacteria on their hands, they can infect themselves by touching their eyes, nose or mouth. then these people can infect other people. the experts say the easiest way to catch a cold is to touch your nose or eyes after someone nearby has sneezed or coughed. another way to become sick is to eat food prepared by someone whose hands were not clean.the experts say that handwashing is especially important before and after preparing food, before eating and after using the toilet. people should wash their hands after handling animals or animal waste, and after cleaning a baby. the experts say it is also a good idea to wash your hands after handling money and after sneezing or coughing. and it is important to wash your hands often when someone in your home is sick. the experts say the most effective way to wash your hands is to rub them together while using soap and warm water. they say you do not have to use special antibacterial soap. be sure to rub all areas of the hands for about ten to fifteen seconds. the rubbing action helps remove germs. then rinse(冲洗)the hands with water and dry them.title: 1. _themehandwashing could be among the most effective ways to reduce infectious diseases.2. _can be preventedpinworms, influenza, the common cold, hepatitis a, meningitis and infectious diarrhea.3. _ to do handwashing before and after4. _; before eating and after5. _; after handling animals or animal waste; after cleaning a baby; after handling money and after 6. _; when someone in your home is sick.7. _ to dohandwashingrubbing them together while 8. _ and warm water, rubbing all areas of the hands for about 9. _ seconds and rinsing the hands with water and dry them.howhandwashing workshandwashing destroys germs from other people, 10. _ a person has touched. (4)(12 min.)(湖南湘潭市2011届高三第5次模拟卷)some children are naturalborn bosses. they have a strong need to make decisions, manage their environment, and lead rather than follow. stephen jackson, a year one student, “operates under the theory of whats mine is mine and whats yours is mine,” says his mother. “the other day i bought two new star wars light sabers(剑). later, i saw stephen with the two new ones while his brother was using the beatup ones.”“examine the extended family, and youll probably find a bossy grandparent, aunt, uncle or cousin in every generation. its an inheritable trait(特征),” says russell barkley, a professor at the medical university of south carolina. other children who may not be particularly bossy can gradually gain dominance(支配地位) when they sense their parents are weak, hesitant, or in disagreement with each other. whether its inborn nature or developed character at work, too much control in the hands of the young isnt healthy for children or the family. “fear is at the root of a lot of bossy behaviour,” says family psychologist john taylor. “children,” he says in his book from defiance to cooperation, “have secret feelings of weakness and a desire to feel safe. its the parents role to provide that protection.”when a “boss child” doesnt learn limits at home, the stage is set for a host of troubles outside the family. the overly willful and unbending child may have trouble obeying teachers or coaches, for example, or trouble keeping friends. it can be pretty lonely as the top dog if no one likes your bossy ways. “i see more and more parents giving up their power,” says barkley, who has studied bossy behavior for more than 30 years. “they bend too far because they dont want to be as strict as their own parents were. but they also feel less confident about their parenting skills. their kids, in turn, feel more anxious. ”so for the sake of the children, parents should be strict with them in a suitable way and get more knowledge to be good parents. title: 1. _kinds 2. _ bossy children with an inheritable trait;developed bossy children. behaviorshaving a strong need to make decisions; 3. _; leading rather than following;not 4. _ at home. 5. _childrenfear(the basic cause)6. _a desire to feel safeparentsweakness, hesitation and disagreement with each other;less power over the children;7. _ about parenting skills. influenceshaving trouble dealing with others or keeping friends;feeling 8. _. 9. _for parentsbeing strict with children in a suitable way; providing protection;learning to be 10. _. 专题训练卷(六)(1)1. problems概括题。2. education / academic achievement直接题。根据第二段第一句gaul, with about 170 seventh and eighth graders, has its own history of lower level academic achievement.可以得出。3. closed改写题。根据第二段outsiders (teachers included) are often kept at a respectful distance.可以得出。4. motivated改写题。根据第三段the goal: to find common threads across disciplines to help students create a big picture that gives fresh meaning and context to their classwork and sparks motivation for learning.可以得出。5. individual schedules直接题。根据第四段working within state guidelines, each team makes its individual schedules and lesson plans可判断。6. tie/bond/connection/relationship概括题。7. signs/examples概括题。8. reaching/meeting改写题。根据最后一段they know 72 percent of their eighthgraders met maines reading standard last year double the statewide average.可以得出。9. writing and science直接题。根据最后一段their students also beat the state average in writing and science.可以得出。10. ten percent改写题。根据最后一段only 31 percent met the math standard, still better than the state average (21 percent)可判断。(2)本文为说明文,向人们介绍了铅中毒的原因、症状、后果和方法。1. causes概括题。由下面两点可知是讲原因。2. blood改写题。根据第一段lead poisoning (铅中毒)occurs when lead is present in high levels in the blood of a person.可得。3. symptoms概括题。4. result in直接题。根据第四段it can also result in mental dullness and a low iq level.可得。5. receive改写题。根据第五段children are given an injection(注射) for reducing the lead level.可得。根据句子意思要将“give”改为“receive”。6. a special diet直接题。根据第五段最后一句可得。7. preventions/suggestions概括题。8. clean the house改写题。根据第六段cleaning the house regularly and removing shoes at the door after coming in from outside will prevent the lead particles from entering the house.可得。9. high proportions直接题。根据第六段children should be put on a healthy diet, containing high proportions(比例) of calcium and iron可得。10. conclusion/summary概括题。(3)本文为说明文。介绍了洗手的好处和方法。1. handwashing直接题。根据第一段did a study to urge handwashing around the world.可得。 2. many diseases直接题。根据第二段doctors say, many diseases can be prevented from spreading by handwashing.可得。3. when概括题。右栏都是表时间。4. preparing food直接题。根据最后一段第一句the experts say that handwashing is especially important before and after preparing food可得。5. using the toilet直接题。根据最后一段第一句before eating and after using the toilet.可得。6. sneezing or coughing直接题。根据最后一段第三句the experts say it is also a good idea to wash your hands after handling money and after sneezing or coughing.可得。7. h
