贵阳市2014高考英语(新人教版)一轮阅读训练(27)附答案课时作业(二十七)选修6unit 2 poems(限时:35分钟)=.阅读理解asome students get so nervous before a test. they do poorly even if they know the material. sian beilock, a psychology professor at the university of chicago in illinois, has studied these highly anxious testtakers.sian beilock says, “they start worrying about the consequences. they might even start worrying about whether this exam is going to prevent them from getting into the college they want. and when they worry, it actually uses up attention and memory resources. i talk about them as their cognitive(认知的)horsepower that they could otherwise be using to focus on the exam.”professor beilock and another researcher, gerardo ramirez, have developed a possible solution. just before an exam, highly anxious testtakers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test. the researchers tested the idea on a group of 20 anxious college students. they gave them two short math tests. after the first one, they asked the students to either sit quietly or write about their feelings about the upcoming second test. the researchers added to the pressure. they told the students that those who did well on the second test would get money. they also told them that their performance would affect other students as part of a team effort.professor beilock says those who sat quietly scored an average of 12 percent worse on the second test. but the students who had written about their fears improved their performance by an average of five percent.next, the researchers used younger students in a biology class. they told them before final exams either to write about their feelings or to think about things unrelated to the test.professor beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of b, compared to a bfor those who did not.the research shows that for students who are highly testanxious, whod done the writing intervention(排解), all of a sudden there was no relationship between test anxiety and performance. those students most likely to worry were performing just as well as their classmates who dont normally get nervous in these testing situations.but what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before an exam or presentation? professor beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance.16the purpose of the passage is _a. to build the confidence of the highly anxious testtakersb. to introduce a research about the anxious testtakersc. to improve the performance of the testtakersd. to tell something about the highly anxious testtakers17the underlined word “them” in paragraph 2 refers to _a. attention and memory resourcesb. worries about the consequencesc. concerns about the examd. cognitive horsepower18according to the research, the solution to the test anxiety is to_a. sit quietly before the examb. prepare well before the testc. set their mind on happy memoriesd. write about their feelings before the test19the result of the research suggests that _a. proper amount of burden may turn out to be a good thingb. avoiding facing the problem may contribute to relaxationc. facing the fears bravely may help one to achieve mored. taking no action before difficulty may result in successbseen from space the earth is covered in a blue mantle. it is a planet on which the continents are dwarfed(相形见绌)by the oceans surrounding them and the vastness of the marine area.an astonishing 80 percent of all the life on earth is to be found hidden beneath the waves and this vast global ocean pulses around our world driving the natural forces which keep life on our planet.the oceans provide necessary sources of protein, energy, minerals and other products of use the world over and the rolling of the sea across the planet creates over half our oxygen, drives weather systems and natural flows of energy and nutrients around the world, transports water masses many times greater than all the rivers on land combined and keeps the earth habitable.without the global ocean there would be no life on earth.it is seriously worrying, then, that we are damaging the oceans on a scale that is unimaginable to most people.we now know that human activity can have serious influences on the vital forces governing our planet. we have fundamentally changed our global climate and are just beginning to understand the consequences of that. as yet largely unseen, but just as serious, are the influences we are having on the oceans. a healthy ocean has diverse ecosystems and strong and healthy habitats. the actual state of our oceans is a far cry from this natural level.a large quantity of human pressures are being exerted both directly and indirectly on ocean ecosystems the world over. consequently ecosystems are collapsing as marine species are driven towards extinction and ocean habitats are destroyed. with the decrease and removement of their diversity, ocean ecosystems are losing their natural recovery.20the 2nd and the 3rd paragraphs are given mainly to describe_awhat the oceans look likebwhat the oceans are made up ofcwhat lives in the oceansdwhat functions the oceans have21the oceans provide all the following except _a. various marine creaturesb. rich living resourcesc. all natural forcesd. comfortable habitats for man22man has not yet realized that _ahe has done harm to the oceansbhe has done harm to the planetche has benefited from the oceansdhe has benefited from the planet23the best title for this passage should be _a. they use pig and pork, cow and beef, and sheep and mutton?to find out,we have to go back to 1066,when the norman french invaded england and put a french king on the english throne(王位),which not only changed the government but also changed the language.french became the language of the upper classes of society.and it remained that way for 300 years.only these high society people could afford to eat meat.as a result, french words like porc(pork) and beouf(beef) came into the english language.however, poor english farmers raised the animals.so the english language retained the words pig and cow from the native anglosaxon.the norman french added about 10,000 french words to the english language.seventyfive percent of them are still in use today.language experts estimate that english speakers who have never studied french already know 15,000 french words!between onethird and twothirds of all english words have french origins.some words such as possible and avenue are the same in french and english;only the pronunciations change.other words such as ballet or a la carte(照菜单点菜) retain their french pronunciations in both languages.in french grammar, nouns have either a male or female gender,so adjectives(形容词) take different forms for each.english has only one adjective that does this, and it came from french.the word blond describes someone with lightcolored hair.blond is used for men,and blonde describes women.and they are also nouns.some french words that entered the english language have taken on completely different meanings.the french phrase a la mode means “in style”in english, the phrase means “with ice cream”someone must have decided something eaten with ice cream was in style!now,as you learn english, youre on your way to learning french!16french was once popular among the upper classes of the uk because_.atoo many french moved to britainbfrench brought animals with themcthe king and his officials spoke frenchdthe king allowed french to be spoken17which word can replace the word “retained” in paragraph 1?aadopted.bkept. cintroduced.ddeserted.18why does an english speaker find french easy to learn?abecause english and french share similar pronunciations.bbecause english grammar and french grammar are similar.cbecause a large number of english words have french origins.dbecause english has great influences on the french language.19french grammar is distinct from english grammar in that_.ano words have the same pronunciationsball words have the same pronunciationscenglish nouns have a male or female genderdfrench nouns have different adjective forms20what conclusion can we draw from the text?alanguage is closely related to history and culture.bfrench and english words have nothing in common.clanguage is controlled by the upper classes of society.denglish combines french and the native anglosaxon.bone bitterly cold day,a snowstorm blew into our area.needing firewood,i quickly set out with my best friend, bruce,to look for a tree to cut down.i was glad to have bruce along with.cutting down a tree in a snowstorm can be dangerous.so it was important to have a friend who could warn me of danger.when i chose a big tree about 23 meters tall and prepared to cut it down,my best friend suddenly warned me,“dont cut down that tree!its too close to the power line!”i wasnt sure about it.so i decided to disregard his warning.i wanted to finish the job quickly and go home.so i began cutting down the tree.when the tree fell, there was no longer any doubt that my friend was right.the tree caught the power line, bringing it to the ground.i considered cutting the tree off the line.after all, electricity cant travel through wood,so i could safely remove the tree.as i reached out my finger to touch the tree, pain ran up my arm and through my head.i was shocked!after i returned home and told my mother what had happened, she quickly called the power company.the workers from the power company soon arrived on the scene.one of them asked if i had touched the tree, and when i told him i had,his face turned pale.“you should have been killed,” he said.so why am i still alive?it was my boots that saved my life.within two hours, the workers removed the tree.soon the snowstorm calmed downbut not my mother.even though she was glad i wasnt hurt,my mother was still serious.after all,i shouldnt have brushed off my friends warning.through this experience,i learn its important to listen to people who offer a different perspective.taking time
