“新风尚”阅读How Self-Acceptance Leads to Happiness Within天生我材必有用Finding acceptance is a natural desire of most people. When we are young, it is important to us to be accepted by a group and to be seen as cool by our peers. To do this, we will often adopt the views and interests of the group rather than develop our own.Over time, however, we have the opportunity to learn to accept ourselves. People who have done this are confident in their true abilities; they do not feel the need to create a facade to impress other people. They are concerned with whether their actions produce worthwhile results rather than with how they are seen by others.Less secure people are quite different. Instead of finding security in themselves, they look for other people to provide it. This kind of person constantly agrees with everything others suggest, for fear of having their own ideas rejected. Arrogant or defensive people are also usually insecure; in an attempt to hide their insecurities, they belittle or blame others.Secure people do not give up when faced with a difficult situation; they say I can rather than I cant. Knowing that each day is an opportunity to use their talents to acquire good health, good friendships, and great happiness, they always put their best foot forward. Contented people do not judge others, nor do they judge themselves. They can appreciate the differences between themselves and other people.Recognizing the details that we cannot change about ourselves is also a sign of personal growth. We cannot change our height, so why waste energy complaining about being short? Our energy would be better spent on more constructive projects. Instead of dwelling on personal characteristics we are not satisfied with, we ought to focus more on what we are good at.Such expressions as Love thyself and to thane own self be true are about self-acceptance and confidence, as well as honesty and morality. We should consider them to be good advice, and treat them as signposts showing the way to happiness within. 1. Since each person has unique features, there is no one ideal way to apply makeup. Applying cosmetics is an art. Anyone can put makeup on themselves and make the application look okay, but we will teach you tips for applying makeup to perfect your look.A professional make-over performed by an esthetician or make-up artist is the best way to learn how to apply makeup in a manner that will best suit your needs. The esthetician will carefully analyze your facial features. Then she will teach you how to apply makeup in order to best accentuate your positive attributions and minimize your negative ones.Tips For Using Makeup:Before applying your makeup in the morning, make sure you thoroughly cleanse your face. Apply a moisturizer to the skin. Preferably a moisturizer with a sun screen, such as Shade Lotion. Make sure your hands are clean before you touch your face. When applying the foundation, use a sponge. This will give a velvety look. Avoid wearing a dark foundation. You want the foundation to blend with your skin tones. When foundation does not match your skin tone, you will have a noticeable make-up line. If you use too much foundation and powder at one time, it can give the face a caked-on appearance. The first step in applying a complete makeup application is to reduce the darkness under the eye with a concealed and then apply a foundation to even out your skin tone. Whether you start your application with the concealed or the foundation depends more on personal preference than anything else. Once that is done, the eye liner, eye shadow, mascara and blush can be applied. One should always feather the eye liner. You never want a sharp, hard line. The purpose of eye shadow is to shape and accentuate the eye, not color it. Do not overuse eye shadow. The face looks more attractive when you use natural colors. Blush is used to accentuate the cheek bone. This is to be applied sparingly and should look very natural. It is important to use a makeup brush for putting on eye shadow and blush. A good cosmetic brush is an excellent blending tool. The two rules to follow when choosing the right makeup brush are: The brush should match the size of the area it is to be used on. Brushes should not be so stiff that they scratch the face, nor so soft as to be floppy and difficult to control. When wearing makeup, you should always wear lipstick. The color should blend with the other make-up applied. The lips are one feature that can look good on anyone with the correct makeup. Never go to bed with your makeup on. When the makeup is left on overnight it will clog the pores. It prevents the skin from shedding and may cause blemishes and/or blackheads. The skin needs to breathe overnight. It is completely up to you as to how much makeup you choose to wear. You do not need to wear a foundation or any other part of a makeup look if you do not want to. It is all a matter of preference. 1.What can a person benefit from make-up application according to the author?A) ones good facial features can be emphasized according to the emphasizedB) Ones less attractive features can be minimizedC) Ones beauty can be changedD) Both A and B2. China threat fear countered by cultureCHENGDU: China hopes to dissolve the misconception of its development as the China threat, by making its traditional value systems known to the world. Its high time to make ourselves better understood by the worlds people, said Du Ruiqing, former president of the Xian International Studies University. Once they come to know the Chinese people better, they will find out that harmony is an essential part of Chinese tradition and a country that values harmony poses absolutely no threat to the rest of the world. According to Du, culture is a soft power that effectively penetrates to quench misunderstanding and hostility between people of different races. He said China should help people from other nations acquaint themselves with Chinese culture, including its traditions, religions and particularly the Chinese way of thinking. This will help China overcome its cultural deficit, he told the conference in Chengdu, capital of Southwest Chinas Sichuan Province. In terms of international exchanges and trade in culture, we still have a very bad deficit to resolve, said Zhao Qizheng, former minister of the State Council Information Office. It runs counter to Chinas fast-growing economy, which has been expanding by an average 9.6 per cent annually since 1979, said Zhao. Chinas booming economy has resulted in a worldwide craze for Chinese language and culture studies. In the United States alone, nearly 800 colleges and universities have Chinese courses, and about 2,400 high schools and 2,500 primary schools are planning to teach Chinese language and culture soon. We need to help our students understand what China is really like and a Chinese course is already on our agenda, said Jeri Halter, principal of Marietta City School in Georgia. Chinas Ministry of Education says approximately 40 million people are learning Chinese as a foreign language worldwide and the figure will hit 100 million by 2010. By then, the world will be in need of at least 5 million Chinese teachers to teach overseas students. In China, about 6,000 teachers are teaching 110,000 foreign students Chinese, said Deng Shushing, an international education specialist with the Southwest University of Finance and Economics. Another 34,000 are working overseas. But the group is still too limited in scale to cope with the growing demand from international students who wish to study Chinese language and culture, he said. In an effort to promote Chinese abroad, China plans to set up 100 Confucius institutes around the world to help foreigners learn the language. Meanwhile, the country tries its best to stage heritage exhibitions and art performances abroad. This helps to present its culture to the world. These endeavors illustrate our aspiration to present a true, peace-loving China to the world, said Dr Wan Yipping, president of the Sino-American Education Consortium.1.
