陕西韩城市2016高考英语【二轮】阅读理解实战练习(1)【2015高考复习】阅读理解the british arent having as many children as they used to.one reason is that people are having children much older than before, meaning they have fewer years in which they can have them.after years at university, they need a few years of work experience before they can get the job they want.they might then get married, but its incredibly expensive to buy a house in the uk.the above explains why young british people now dont move out of their parents home until they are around 30 years old on average.it is not until they are 30 that they can afford their own home.increasingly,it is not until that age that they can afford to get married and start a new life in a new home.its only after this age that many young people start thinking about having a child.so a british person manages to get a job,get a home and get married.why isnt he or she then having at least two children on average?the main reason is that it is quite expensive to bring up a child in the uk.why is it expensive?well, these days, both parents need to work just to pay for their home and living expenses.because both parents are at work, that means they then need to pay someone to look after their child during the day.paying for this childcare is nearly always expensive.the recent financial crisis is making things even harder for families, since unemployment is rising and even fewer people can afford to have children.with so much pressure on families,is it any surprise that the divorce rate is so high?so what is britain doing to try and save the british family?the government is trying to make it cheaper to have children.for example, there have been increases in money families can claim from the state each month.also, there are increasing government subsidies for nursery schools,so that parents do not need to pay so much for childcare.the government is also trying to reduce the number of hours british parents have to work to earn enough money to pay their bills.if parents didnt have to work so many hours, theyd have more time to spend with their children and wouldnt need to spend so much on childcare.on average,a briton works 49 hours a week, which is the most in europe.the state is now considering introducing laws to encourage companies to improve their employees worklife balance.lets hope theyre not too late to save the british family.otherwise, the british will always be too tired, and wont have enough time and money,to have children.【语篇导读】文章主要讲述英国年轻人不像原来那样多生孩子的原因。36young british people live in their parents home until around visited the castle in 1873, she wrote in her diary, “i never saw a lovelier spot ,” and she didnt even go fishing. scotland is not easily defined. in certain moments, this quiet land of lakes and grasses and mountains changes before your very eyes. when evening gently sweeps the hillside into orange light ,the rivers, filling with fish, can turn into streams of gold . as you settle down with just a fishing pole and a basket on the bank of river orchy, near the inverlochy castle , any frustration(烦恼)will float away as gently as the circling water. its just you and purple , pink ,white flowers, seeking a perfect harmony . if you are a new comer to fishing, learning the basics from a fishing guide may leave you with a lifetimes fun. for many, fishing is more than a sport; it is an art. scotland offers interesting place where you can rest after a long days fishing. set against a wild mountain and hidden behind woodland , the beautiful inverlochy castle hotel below the nevis is a perfect place to see the beauty of scotlands mountains . ben nevis is the highest of all british mountains , and reaching its 1342-metre top is a challenge . but its not just what goes up that matters; what comes down is unique . more than 900 metres high, on the mountains north face, lies an all-important source of pure water. its name comes form the gaelic (盖尔特) language “usqueb” or “water of life”; and it is the single most important ingredient(原料) in scotlands best-known drink: whisky.【小题1】how is paragraph 2 mainly developed? aby giving descriptions.bby following time order.cby id ever known. he never yelled at us for playing in his yard, but was always very kind. when doctor gibbs wasnt saving lives, he was planting trees. he had some interesting theories about planting trees. he believed in the principle: no pain, no gain. he hardly watered his new trees, an attitude which flew in the face of conventional wisdom. once i asked why and he told me that watering plants spoiled them because it made them grow weaker. he said you had to make things tough for the trees so that only the strongest could survive. he talked about how watering trees made them develop shallow roots and how, if they were not watered, trees would grow deep roots in search of water. so, instead of watering his trees every morning, hed beat them with a rolled-up newspaper. i asked him why he did that, and he said it was to get the trees attention. doctor gibbs died a couple of years after i left home. every now and then, i walked by his house and looked at the trees that id watched him plant some 25 years ago. they were tall and strong. i planted a couple of trees myself a few years ago. two years of attending these trees meant they grew up weak. whenever a cold wind blew, their branches trembled. adversity seemed to benefit doctor gibbs trees in ways comfort and ease never could. every night before i go to bed, i check on my two sons. i often pray that their lives will be easy. but lately ive been thinking that its time to change my prayer. i know my children are going to encounter hardship. theres always a cold wind blowing somewhere. what we need to do is to pray for deep roots, so when the rains fall and the winds blow, we wont be torn apart.31. with the trees planted, doctor gibbs often_.a. paid little attention to themb. talked to them to get their attentionc. kept watering them every morningd. beat them to make them grow deep roots【答案】a 【解析】细节理解题。根据he hardly watered his new trees,他没有
