1 I am familiar to your situation. As computers become more and more popular, some students cant help play online games and chatting. It is not only a problem of wasting time, but serous problem for their future! What you should do at first is to find out what made her addicted to computer games. Lack of love from parents? Poor score? Then having a heart-to-heart talk with her. Secondly, you should help herself with her study to build up her confidence and make her interesting in it. Thirdly, find something else for her to do instead computer games. Your efforts will surely help change her life.2Nowadays most people prefer taking buses or driving cars when traveling. However, I would like to ride a bike. I treat my bike as if my best friend. There are special reasons. I find very convenient to go anywhere with a bike. Riding fives me not only exercises but also pleasure. I use my bike almost in summer when the weather is fine. Of course, it can be pleasant but dangerous on cold winter days especially when rain is pour down. On such occasion I will be very carefully on my bike. In fact, accidents are not the only problem. Once I went to bookstore on my fathers bike to buy some reference books and come out to find the bike missing. Now I have two strong locks on my bike to ensure its safe.3Angela works at a university as adviser. Ss can come and ask her for many questions if they need help or advices. Most of them are worried about their studies and exams. Some of them have problems connect with renting flats, though the biggest problems was loneliness. Universities are excited places but some students find difficult to make friends. They miss their families but feel lost in the new environment. Theyre upset. Angelas job is to listen to and try to understand whether they are thinking about. And of course she also gives practical advice when she is needed.4When people think about precious things, they usual think about money or jewelry. I am not very rich, and I have something very preciously in my room. Its not a CD player or a cell phone. Its the view from my window. I am lucky live near a park. My window faces with the tops of the trees in the park. Below the tree I can see children on the playground, young couples walked quietly, mothers with children, and old people sitting on the beach. The whole world is before their eyes. My classmates like to go online or listen to music, but when I have free time, I just sit on the chair and enjoyed the most precious thing in my room: the view.5 I was at a party a few weeks before which was more excited than I had expected it to be. We were all having a good time as suddenly a fire broke in the kitchen. Someone shouted “Fire ! Dont panic!” So of course people started to panic. There is smoke everywhere and we were all trying to find the way to out when someone found fire extinguisher(灭火器). It was my friend Charles. He put the fire out and was about to coning out of the house when the firefighters arrived. The fire chief praised my friend and told us that we all had a luckily escape.6Theres an old man in our village calling Old Joe who said to be 110 years old. This cant be proved though he doesnt have a birth certificate. All his personal papers destroyed during World War . I dont know if he really is so old, and it doesnt matter. He certainly looks very old. Of course, he is often asked question by people who want to be told the secret of long life. Old Joe always answered them like this: “If you are offered cigarette, never accept it; if you are annoyed by someone, never lose your temper; and if you are asked foolishly questions, never answer them.”7I have received a letter from a man I hard know and Im rather worrying. I met him on a boat in ten years ago when I was sailing across the English Channel. It was very short journey, but he was very friendly and we talked for a couple of hours. We exchanged address and I said: “ Come and see me whether you ever visited England.” Now, ten years later, I have received this letter from him. It said: “ Do you remember us, dear Frank? We met on a boat ten years ago. You gave me your address and invited me to visit you. I will be arriving in London in July 14th with my wife and six children. We would like stay with you and your family for a month.8Nearly a week passes before the girl was able to explain what had happened on her. One afternoon she set out from the coast in a small boat and caught in a storm. Towards evening, the boat struck a rock and the girl jumped into the sea. Then she swam to the shore after spend the whole night in the water. During that time she covered a distance of eight miles. Early next morning, he saw light ahead. She knew she was near the shore while the light was highly up on the cliffs. On arriving at the shore, the girl struggled up the cliff towards the light she seen. That was all which she remembered. When she woke up a day late, she found herself in hospital.9I arrived in London at last. The railway station was big, black, and dark. I did not know the way of my hotel, so I asked a porter. I not only spoke English very careful, but also very clearly. The porter, however, could not understood me. I repeated his question several time and at last he understood. He answered me, and he spoke neither slowly nor clearly. “ I am foreigner,” I said, then he spoke slowly, but I could not understand him. My teacher ever spoke English like that! The porter and I looked at each other and smiled, then he said anything and I understood it. “ You will soon learn English!” he said. I wonder. In England, each person speaks a different language. The English understands each other, but I dont understand them ! do they speak English?10when I am a child, I always wished to become an adult so that I could do all what I liked. I wanted to have more space where I was able to follow my own heart without follow my parents instructions. As time going by, I have grown up gradually. But I find things are quite different from what I expect. I do have the free to do more things alone. Moreover; I have to take on much responsibilities. I have to take the charge of my life and face challenges bravely. Now I am determining to work hard and go to college so that I can have a bright future.11last weekend we went mountain-climbing. Even the heavy rain in the morning could not prevent us go. Setting off very early, we went along an extreme narrow road, all in high spirits. On every side of the road was green fields and some farmhouses. We could hear the sound of the rain and our footsteps mixing with our laughter. At noon we reached the top of the mountain. That surprised us most there was the beauty of the scenes. After having short rest and sharing the food we had brought, we started going down. It had rained more harder. We were wet to the skin, and we still sang and laughed happily.12upon their arrive, we gave the American students a warm welcome but a boy named Tim was to stay with my family for the weekend. While they were introducing them, I already recognized him by comparing him with the photo he had sent to me. When school over, we took the subway home, in where my parents had already prepared a rich family dinner for Tim. We enjoy ourselves a lot, eating and chatting. The next day, I acted as a guide, showing Tim along the most famous scenic spots in Beijing. Wherever he went , he had some photos take to help him memorize this unforgettable trip to China. When final the time came for us to say goodbye, I gave Tim a kite as an souvenir.13students today should do more reading. Indeed, the importance of reading can never be too stressed. First of all, reading, especial out-of-class reading, enrich our mind and broadens our horizons. Through read, we learn what cannot be learnt in our classrooms. Beside, reading is also a way of relaxation. This is very refreshing to read a story before going to bed, or after a day of the study. There were many famous sayings about reading, like “Reading is to the mind that exercise is to the body.” Then how can we develop the habit of reading ? In the first place, I believe we need to begin from an early age, and then stick on it and never give up. Secondly, we should read what we are interested and also what is proper for us.14This morning on my way to school I was deep moved by what I saw outside a bank. An old man was counting his money in the front of the bank. Suddenly a young man came running and knocked him down. To make things bad, his money was lying in all direction. In no time the people around rush to pick the money up while the old man stood there, not know what to do. Surprisingly, everyone gave back the money they had just picked. The old man counted the money again and found that not a single bill was missed. To my great joy, there are now a lot of nice people in your life. Its true what honesty is more important than money.15Dear Brad, I am a boy in the first grades of a senior high school. I feel uneasily recently. At home I feel like prisoner. Just then, a lady dropped 20-dollar bill on the ground, but he did not realize it and started to walk away. The guy in pink picked out the money and gave it back to her. After that, he rode on but soon disappeared before the lady could thank him. How a strange and good guy!18Dear Mr. Smith, Im very much glad to hear that your international shopping center will build non-smoking supermarket.
