Class / level:Grade 9 in Secondary SchoolDate:Mar 31Profile of class (Ages, motivations.)1.The students are around 15 years old. 2.Most of them are from towns or cities .They are very interested in different cultures from different countries .They want to learn something different in English lesson .3.They are curious about somewhere mysterious. Stonehenge is World Cultural Heritage. There are many mysteries. So they will be very interested in the reading material about Stonehenge.Time:40mNo of students:55Aims of lesson:1.Let the students be aware of background information of Stonehenge arouse their interests in British culture.2.To develop students reading skills 3.To help students recognize conjunctions and phrasesLearning Outcomes By the end of the session the students will be able to 1. to give a brief introduction of Stonehenge with the conjunctions or phrases.2. To identify conjunctions or phases that link ideas together.3. To use the reading skills,skimming and scanning.4. To use the target words .5. To have extended their knowledge and ability to speak.6. Have had further practice in reading.7. Have made progress in using English language.Materials and Resources:1.a short video 2.PPT3.some handouts Language Focus 1. To indentify conjunctions or phrases that link ideas together .not onlybut also,but,as,however,because2. To use the reading skills, such as prediction,skimming,scanning and summarizing.2. To self-learn by putting questions.3. To recall or review by speaking or writing.4. To recall or review by speaking or writing.5. Main reading skills:SQ3R6. Sub skills:To develop the skill of reading and understand gist in reading.Anticipated problems:1. During the reading stage , the top students may come up with more questions if they are interested in Stonehenge . Encourage them to think further and write down their questions . After class , let them get the answers on the Internet and write a passage about Stonehenge .2. During the questioning stage , the weak students may not question .Encourage them to answer the questions that are come up with by the group members . The teacher and group members can help them .Make sure the weak students can be with the teacher and keep interests in learning .3. The ppt is very effective during teaching . But if power is off , warmer will be replaced by brainstorming .Let the students think of as many words as possible about Stonehenge and share them with the whole class .Assessment:1. Making mind map can check if they got the main idea of the text .2. Retelling the text according to the mind map can check if the students can give a brief introduction of Stonehenge .3.Filling in blanks with the conjunctions or phrase can check the students identify the function of conjunctions and phrases in the text .Stage:Procedure: Teachers activity Students ActivityTiming:I.Warmer1. SurveyLet the Ss look through the text and concentrate on the heading, picture and first sentences at each paragraph.Skim the text and get the general idea of the text.Write down the answers to the questions on the handouts.Q:How many parts are there ?What do the heading , picture and first sentences tell you about the contents?5 III.
