The training centre has a group of well qualified training professionals and updated training facilities and equipment such as classrooms, conference room, laboratories, library, computerized-multimedia facilities, internet service, experimental fish farms, guesthouse and canteen, sport fields etc. Its core component, Asian-Pacific Regional Research and Training Centre for Integrated Fish Farming (IFFC) was established by the Chinese Government with the assistance of UNDP/FAO. Since 1981, the center has been organizing training courses on integrated fish farming and other subjects annually and more than 1200 senior fisheries technical and managerial personnel from 80 countries and regions have been trained.Introduction of Project ContentThe course covers the basic theories, advanced practical techniques and managerial patterns related to the characteristic Chinese aquaculture systems comprehensively. The major contents include theories and techniques for induced breeding of cultured fish and hatchery operation; rearing of fry and fingerlings technology; fish nutrition and feeding technology; inland water area fishery development technology; information technology application in fishery; aquaculture model and eco-culture models including grow-out fish culture in pond, ornamental fish culture, shrimp culture, freshwater pearl culure technology, marine aquaculture, cage culture technology, integrated fish farming technology and rice fish farming technology; aquaculture technical extension, healthy management, safety and quality control of aquatic products, management on aquacultural farm, development and management of aquaculture projects, fishery environment and aquatic biodiversity protection, new technology on fish breeding, processing techniques of aquatic products and other related topics. The course includes field visits to aquaculture research and development, education and technical extension organizations in Jiangsu and Shanghai.
