Step 2 Presentation (This activity helps lead to the title and new words.)1) Say, Look, I have a new mobile phone, so I dont want to use this old one any more. Ive had it for three years but it still works. (Operate the compute to show the title of this unit on the screen.Slide 1) Today well learn unit 10.2)Say,In our daily life,we must have many things that we dont use any more. Maybe they are very old or they may be out of style though they still work. What should you do with them if you have some old things? Do you throw them away or give them away to other people? I think you can have a yard sale.(Slide 2) 3) Explain yard sale in both Chinese and English.(Slides 2and 3) 4) Say, Sometimes its hard for us to sell our old things. Look, this is my daughters toy bear. My daughter has grown up, but she wants to keep it because she says this toy bear can bring her back sweet memories. (Slide 4) Step 3 Pair work (This activity provides oral practice using the target language: have had it for -years.)1) Show students some real things that are collected one by one (Slide 5). At the same time, say, This is my- Ive had it for- years. 2) Tell students that Ill have a yard sale. Lead students to ask how much they are.Step 4 Pair work After a while, ask some individual students if they have some similar old things like in 1a and slide 7 and then ask students how long they have had each of them. (Slides 6-7) Step 5 Listening (This activities1b,2a and2b provide listening practice using the target language.)1) Talk about the pictures together with students.2) Show the activities on the screen. (Slide8-10) 3) Let students listen to the conversations twice for each activity.Then check the answers.Step 5 Playing a game (This activity provides oral practice using the target language:Ive had this- for-/since -.) 1) Show the form on slide 11 to explain how to play this game. 2) Show the form on slide 12 to play this game.Step7 Grammar Focus Explain the differences between for and since in Chinese.(Slide13)Homework: (Slide14) 1.Collect your two old things that you dont use any more and bring them to school next week.
