文档简介
Robinson CrusoeRobinson Crusoe was written by Defoe. It was published by William Talor, in 1979. It is called Britains first realistic novel and it attracts a large number of readers.Robinson is from the town of York in English. He yearns for a life at sea, and he gets the ship to London in spite of the opposition of his family. Quickly, he becomes a businessman and earns some money. He keeps on his voyage. Unfortunately, he is enslaved to a potentate because the ship is occupied by pirates. He escapes with a boy and a kindly Portuguese captain picks them up. Then he becomes a plantation owner. Eager for slave labor, he embarks on a slave-gathering expedition to West Africa, but ends up shipwrecked off. Robinson is the only survivor of the shipwreck. He gets some guns, powder, food, and other items from the wreck. He does everything by himself. He builds several shelters, and eats many foods which are made himself. He has his own pets. He can make bread and pottery himself. Also, he makes wooden boat himself. He stays alone at the island for many years before he saves the Friday, and he gets along well with Friday. Then he releases a Spaniard and Fridays father and sends them out to explore the nearby land. Later, he helps an English captain to seize the ship, which the sailors mutinied, and the captain grants them free passage to English. After twenty-eight years on the island, he comes back. He makes a considerable fortune and donates a portion to the widow and his sisters. Finally, he returns to his island and it becomes a rich colony. Robinson Crusoe is pretty good a book which I have read in Chinese version when I was a little girl. I admire him very much. When he lives in island alone, he is always optimistic and never gives up. He has to do everything by himself but he lacks tools, every simple thing may be difficult for him. Although life is uneasy, he is keeping enthusiastic. He always has a grateful heart. He is industrious, resourceful, brave, and firm. He pays real action instead of saying. Actually, these days I also read another book, the Old Man and the Sea, I find that there are some similarities between Robinson and the old man. Whether the old man on the open sea or Robinson who is on a deserted island, both of them struggle bravely in a place where there is no other person. What the difference is the old man just stays in the open sea for four days while Robinson stays on a deserted island for twenty-eight years. But they are on behalf of strong will. They are indomitable and optimistic when they face the difficulties. They never give up. What they do makes us learn, admire and praise. Both of them tell us that the person who is optimistic and brave in times of hardship will win finally. Just like Robinson says “I hope the people of the world should be a lesson learned from the most unfortunate situation, this lesson is: among the most unfortunate situation, we can also control the advantages and disadvantages together to find comfort in things.” This sentence is a concentrated expression of the positive and optimistic attitude to life in Robinson. He can find the spark of hope from despair. Then he gains courage and confidence. We can get a lot from Robinson and he can give the people in modern society a good inspiration. Robinson also has some inadequacies. I can not understand him sometimes. I can not understand, Robinson, a slave himself coldly sells Xury to the Portuguese captain with no guilty at all. When he thinks about Xury later, he doesnt recollect memories of the days they get along well together instead laments missing a slave labor. “Both wanted help, and now I found, more than before, I had done wrong in parting with my boy Xury.” He thinks that what is “wrong” is not selling the boy, but lacks of a good labor who can work for him. I really can not understand this. But compared to his great advantages, his shortcomings are negligible. Nobody is perfect. Because of this, Robinson seems to be a real human being like us and closer to us.On the whole, Robinson Crusoe is a great book which gives readers much encouragement and inspiration. His position for life, optimistic attitude to life and great willpower, all are important and precious things that we need. We should learn much about the great qualities from Robinson. Life is a box of chocolate,
