Section B 2a-2eTeaching Design Wu Xiangrui from No.8 Middle School The teaching design is made of seven parts. It includes analysis of the teaching material , analysis of the students, teaching aims and aids, the teaching methods and learning methods, teaching procedures ,blackboard design and teaching reflection.Part 1: Analysis of the Teaching Material 1. Status and functions: This lesson is taken from the reading part of Section B Unit2 , the Students Book IV, Go for it. The title of this unit is Ill help to clean up the city parks. The main idea is about volunteering. And the text is a thank-you letter. This is a reading passage, which plays a very important role in the English teaching of this unit. By studying this lesson, the students can improve their reading ability and receive some moral education. At the same time, I will let the Ss learn some words and phrases about the life of the disabled. 2. Teaching important points To let the Ss understand the article. To improve the Ss reading ability. To remember the following words, phrases and key sentences, such as disabled, training, make a difference, make it +adj +for sb.+to do sth and so on.3. Teaching difficult point To be able to retell the story .Part 2. Analysis of the Students The Ss are in Grade Eight, they are active and prefer activities. The Ss have already learned this unit for three classes, so they have some basic background knowledge.Part 3 Teaching Aims and Aids: The teaching aims basis is established according to Junior High School English Syllabus Provision.1.Knowledge objectives To let the Ss understand the article. To help them remember the following words, phrases and key sentences, such as disabled, training, make a difference, make it +adj +for sb.+to do sth and so on.2. Ability objectives To improve the Ss abilities of reading and expressing. To improve the Ss ability to analyze and solve problems.3. Moral objectives To arouse the Ss interest in reading. To encourage the Ss to make contributions to volunteering. 4. Teaching aids In this lesson, Ill mainly use multimedia and blackboard to make the class lively and improve my teaching result.Part 4 Teaching Methods and Learning Methods1. Warming-up and Leading-in.1.Make a situation: let the Ss open their books without hands or arms.2.Watch a video:What can a trained dog do for the disabled?Purpose of my designing: This step is used to let the Ss know a little about the hard life of the disabled and arouse the Ss interest in studying this lesson.Step2. PresentationNo.1 Skimming(2mins)1. Look at the picture and guess.2. Skim the letter and answer the questions.Purpose of my designing: This step is used to let the Ss understand the article type and characters.No.2 Scanning(4mins)Choose the key sentence of each paragraph.Purpose of my designing: This step is used to let the Ss know about the text from overall meaning to key structure.No.3 Careful Reading(8mins) .1. Read Paragraph3 and complete the dogs file.2. Read Paragraph14, choose T or F.3. Read paragraph 2 and answer the questions.Purpose of my designing: Put the dogs file in the first place to attract the Ss interest and by detailed reading , the Ss will have a better understanding to the text. Also, they can improve their abilities to guess the meaning of the new word and judge its part of speech.No.4 Think back the Text(4mins)1. Describe the characters with proper adjective. 2. Think back the text to draw a mind map.3. Present the contents as the blackboard design.Purpose of my designing: After detailed reading, the Ss can organize the text as a mind map to enhanced memory. Also, my blackboard design is will give the Ss some help in the next step.No.5 Retell the Story(7mins)Retell the story by acting one of the characters. For example, Im Miss Li. I hope the disabled people./Im Lucky. Im from./ Im Ben, I cant use my arms or legs well.Purpose of my designing: This step is used to improve the Ss abilities of expressing and generalization.No.6 Group Challenge(5mins)Let the Ss discuss the words, phrases and key sentences in groups and recite them, then organize a group challenge . Purpose of my designing: The Ss have already understood the new words in the passage, but they need a stronger memory. This step is also used to improve the Ss abilities of communication and competition.Step3. Practice(6mins)1. Complete the sentences with the words correctly.2. Form sentences(subject + verb +object).3. Finish a further reading. Purpose of my designing: These are practical application to the knowledge that the Ss have learned from the lesson. Forming sentences is according to 2d page 15, the further reading is according to 2e Page15, they can finish the reading with the reading skills that they have learned from this lesson: skimming, scanning and careful reading.Step4. Summary and Homework(2mins)Summary:Let the Ss sum up the knowledge that they have learned from this lesson, just like this:1. From this lesson, we know much about the life of the disabled. We could_;2. We have also learned some words, phrases and key sentences, such as_.Homework: 1. Imitate the text to write a thank-you letter to the person who helped you.2.
