2014级高三上学期第二次阶段性考试第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)阅读下列短文,从每小题所给(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。AEvery Wednesday, I go to Cantata Adult Life Services, a local retirement community in Brookfield, Illinois, US, with my classmates to do community service. After my very first visit to Cantata, my life changed forever. That may sound a bit dramatic, but volunteering with the elderly has changed my views on life. Our visits last about an hour, and we bring 25-30 students every time. We play board games and cards with the residents while were there. You can watch all the movies and TV shows you want about “life back then”, but nothing compares to talking to the people who were actually there. Just hearing their stories has touched me in a way I never thought possible. Whether it was talking to 98-year-old “Hurricane Hilda” about her glory days as a roller skater or chatting with Lou about the times she danced with a famous actor, I was completely mesmerized by every single memory the residents wanted to share with me. Even the residents who dont have amazing memories make the experience satisfying. I remember visiting Mrs. Robinson. She couldnt recall much about her past, but she told me shed never forget how kind I was just to listen to her “rambling(漫谈)”. It made me realize that its the little things that make life worth living. Thats something I wont forget anytime soon. If theres one thing Ive realized in my three years of visiting Cantata, its that presencejust being theremeans more than anything to many of the residents. Therefore, it is only fitting that the editors of the well-known Oxford English Dictionary chosethe face with the tears of joy as its “Word of the Year” for 2015. The company that announced its unusual word choice on November 16th said that it was picked over several other traditional choices. Among them were refugee, sharing economy and on fleek. However, it was this simple emoji that resonated(共鸣)with the editors because it appeared to best describe the spirits, mood, and concerns of 2015. They also thought that this was a good year to pay honor to the emoji. For though they have been around since the late 1990s, the use of the digital signs and the word that describes them has increased sharply this year. Besides, emojis are now used by people of all ages, not just teenagers. Also, though the word comes from the Japanese languagee (picture), moji (character or letter), the digital signs can be understood by everyone regardless of the language they speak. Therefore it only makes sense to acknowledge their importance to global communication. C People with an impulsive personality refer to those who tend to do things without considering the possible dangers or problems first. According to a new study by researchers at the University of Georgia, such people may be more likely to have food addiction. The study found that people exhibiting impulsive behavior werent necessarily overweight, but impulsiveness was related to a direct relationship with food, and therefore, less healthy weight. Food addiction has been compared to addictive drug use. Studies have linked the dopamine (多巴胺) release that occurs after tasting delicious food to the dopamine release that happens when people consume other addictive substances. Impulsive behavior involves several personality traits (特点). Two of these traits, known as negative urgency and lack of perseverance, were particularly associated with food addiction and high BMI (身体质量指数) during the study. Negative urgency is characterized by the tendency to behave impulsively when experiencing negative emotions. Some people might drink alcohol or take drugs. For others, it could mean eating to feel better. Lack of perseverance is when a person has a hard time finishing hard or boring tasks. People with a lack of perseverance might have difficulty attempting to change addictive eating behavior, which could also cause obesity. “Impulsiveness might be one reason why some people eat in an addictive way despite motivation to lose weight,” said Dr. Ashley Gearhardt, a clinical psychologist. He was involved in developing the Yale Food Addiction Scale in aid of those people. “We are theorizing that if food addiction is really a thing, then our measure, the Yale Food Addiction Scale, should be related to helping control impulsive action,” said Gearhardt. Clinical psychologist Dr. James MacKillop, whose lab was conducting the study, believes that therapies used to treat addictive drug behavior could help people who suffer from addictive eating habits. “Most of the programs for weight loss at this point focus on the most obvious things, which are clearly diet and exercise,” MacKillop said. “It seems that managing strong desires to eat would naturally fit in with the skills a person would need to eat healthily.” 28. According to Paragraph 1, the result of food addiction is _.A. motivation to lose weight B. negative emotionsC. less healthy weight D. taking alcohol or drugs29. How does the author introduce the two personality traits in Paragraph 4?A. By giving definitions and examples. B. By explaining causes and effects.C. By presenting questions and answers. D. By making comparisons and conclusions. 30. What can be inferred about the Yale Food Addiction Scale from the text?A. It has been successfully carried out among overweight people. B. It might help some impulsive people with food addiction to lose weight. 31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A. Dopamine release caused by food addiction B.
