His mother and teachers tried their best to bring him down, but failed. However, a firefighter (消防员) who dressed as Spiderman succeeded in saving him. Firefighter David Smith was called in after the 6-year-olds teachers and mother had failed to get him down from the balcony. He was asking for his mother, Smith said. He was crying, and wouldnt let any of us get near him. After hearing a conversation between the boys mother and his teachers about his love of superheroes (超级英雄), Smith hurried home to get his Spiderman clothes. I told him Spiderman is here to save you. No one will hurt you now, Smith said. Then I told him to walk slowly toward me. I was really nervous that he might fall if he got too excited and started running. Then the crying boy broke into a smile and walked into the firemans arms. The fictional (虚构的) superhero was created by writer Stan Lee in the early 1960s. It has recently become popular again through a series of movies made about him. In them he is acted by superstar Tobey Maguire, who acted with Kirsten Dunst and James Franco.1. BI have been a student at Bentley College in Waltham for some time now, so I have a lot of experience and know how things work at Bentley. As a freshman(新生)at Bentley College you will be living in the Tree Dorms, Slade Hall or Miller Hall. I would highly suggest that you choose to live in the Tree Dorms because this is where most fresh-men are going to be living. There will be a lot of activities going on in the building and you will meet lots of people. Slade Hall is next to the parking lot(停车场)and not far from the Tree Dorms, so that would be your second choice. As Miller Hall is small and far away, it would be my last choice for freshmen housing. If Bentley offers you the chance to live with second or third year students youd better refuse their offer and live with freshmen. Living with your classmates will make the transition (过渡) into college life a lot easier. As a freshman your classes should be easy. After freshman year your classes will become a lot more difficult, so I advise that you get down to business early in the first year. There are two very easy things you can do to increase your knowledge as a freshman. The first is to just go to class and the second is to always do your homework. I also highly advise that you do it on your own and try to stay disciplined(遵守纪律的). It is too easy to put your homework away and then get really behind and not be able to learn everything before a mid-term or final exam. 4. The author advises freshmen to live in the Tree Dorms because _.A. it is across the parking lot from Slade HallB. it is small and quite far away from the playgroundC. there are many second and third year students thereD. there are many freshmen and more activities5. Youd better not live with students in other grades because _.A. it is harder to get used to college life B. you will find it dull and boring C. they will put stress on you D. they wont help you with your homework 6. According to the author, how can freshmen improve knowledge?A. Remember to do homework by discussing it with others.B. Finish homework and go to class every day.C. Try to spend more time in the library.D. Be able to learn something before a mid-term or final exam.7. The author writes the passage to _.A. tell new students how to get used to college lifeB. tell new students about their teachers and dormitoryC. show the differences between college and high school D. tell readers about some funny things at Bentley CollegeC India is a developing country. It has thousands of years of tradition and culture. Different types of people live in India. In the old days the educational institutions (教育机构) were called ashramam and teachers were gurus. A guru was a respected person in society. Now we are living in the technological world. Big changes are occurring in peoples living. The influence of television, telephone, radio, computer, Internet and mobile phones is very strong in everyday life. But even today, teachers are role models for students. Teaching is still a respectable job. But there are great changes in the education system. One of the most obvious changes is that the influence of Western culture has increased. We are paying too much attention to doing business, just like the Western world. Teachers are likely to to be influenced by this too, but it is not good. Teachers are nation builders. The development of any country depends upon its education system. All types of development are possible through education. Another change has happened in the curriculum (课程). The curriculum connects the teacher and the student. While education is about learning, curriculum means the situations in which one learns. When we say that education deals with what, then curriculum deals with how and when. But at the moment, it is hard to say whether the curriculum is playing such a role. 8. In modern society, teaching is considered as a job that _.A. is respected B. brings good luckC. is hopeless D. connects with the fashion9. What is the authors attitude towards educational change in India? A. He likes it. B. He is annoyed at it.C. He is indifferent (冷漠的) to it. D. He is worried about it.10. Americans eat only about fifteen pounds of fish per person per year, but we eat twice as much fish in restaurants as at home. Buying, storing, and cooking fish isnt difficult. 12 This text is about how to buy and cook fish in an easy way. 13 Fresh fish should smell sweet: you should feel that youre standing at the oceans edge. Any fishy or strong smell means the fish isnt fresh. 14 When you have bought a fish and arrive home, youd better store the fish in the refrigerator if you dont cook it immediately, but fresh fish should be stored in your fridge for only a day or two.
