To improve the interest and skills of listening .2.To grasp the past progressive tense .Teaching proceduresStep1 Warm-up and greeting Lead in by listening to an English song named If you are happy.T:Good morning,class.S:Good morning.Mrs.Peng .The purpose of design:Listening to an English song makes the students active. Greeting brings the teacher and students closer together.Step2 PresentationAsk the students What are you doing now?”The students answer I am having a class. And We are having a class.”Then ask them What were you doing at this time yesterday? If they cant answer it, Ill help them answer ?”I was or we were having a class at this time yesterday.”Look at the pictures, ask and answer in order. They can ask and answer in pairs.Then ask them to role-play the conversations.T:Whats she doing now?She is running.T: What was she doing at seven oclock yesterday morning?S:She was running.T:Whats he doing now?S:He is playing football.T:What was he doing at three oclock yesterday afternoon?S:He was playing football.T:What is the baby doing now?S:He is watching TV.T:What was he doing at 9:00 last night?S:He was playing computer gamesT:What are they doing now ?S: They are dancing.T:What were they doing at ten last night ?S:They were dancing.The purpose of design: By asking the students about the question What are you doing now?”, I present What were you doing at this time yesterday? At the same time , present the past progressive tense. By comparing the Present progressive tense with the Past progressive tense ,the students can understand the differences between them easily. Step3 SummaryAfter practicing the conversations, let the students look through the pictures and sentences again, let the students find out differences between the sentences .Then I help them summarize.现在进行时Present progressive tense 含义:表示现在正在进行或发生的动作。结构:am/is/are + doing过去进行时Past progressive tense含义:表示过去某一时刻或某一段时间正在进行的动作。结构:was/were + doing过去进行时与特定的过去时间状语连用,常见的时间有: them?He /She was shouting / climbing / jumping/Calling/ sleeping /eating。 Then ask and answer in pairs.The purpose of design:Help the students consolidate Past progressive tenseStep 5 Presentation Look at the pictures and ask Hows the weather in Moscow/Toronto/Boston /Beijing /Shanghai .Then present the word rainstorm .Repeat the word together. Show another picture ,and tell the students that There was a rainstorm yesterday. What were they doing when the rainstorm came? Here are some reports. Ask them ask and answer in pairs according to the pictures.T: What were you doing when the rainstorm came?S: I was studying in the library.T: Where were you when the rainstorm came?S: I was on the street.T: What were you doing when the rainstorm came?S: I was watching TV in my house.T: What were you doing when the rainstorm came?S: I was waiting for the bus at the bus stop.The purpose of design: Asking and answering in pairs can improve the interest and skills of speaking.Step6 InterviewAccording to the conversations .Ask the students to interview. What were you doing when the rainstorm came? Work in groups of six students. One student is a reporter ,the other students are interviewed. Then ask two groups of students to show.The purpose of design: Interviewing in groups can improve their spoken English.Step7 MatchFinish 1a .Where were the people at the time of the rainstorm? Match the statements with the people in the picture.1. I was in the library.2. I was in my house.3. I was on the street.4. I was at the bus stop.After they finish them ,ask one student to say his or her answer .The purpose of design:To know if the students have grasped the phrases: in the library,in my house,on the street, at the bus stop.Step8 ListeningListen to the TV report and circle the correct responses. a. doing my homework / studyingb. playing basketball /reading c. going to work /waiting for the bus d. walking home /shoppingPlay the tape , circle the correct responses. Then check the answers.The purpose of design: Listening to the tapes can improve the skills of listening.Step9 Pair workTalk about what the people in 1a were doing at the time of the rainstorm.Work in pairs. Make their own conversations.
