Unit 7 International charities 教案教学目标:1.To listen for general information about UNICEF.2.To understand factual information presented in a radio program.3.To respond to information obtained from listening by completing a report.4.To talk about changed habits and favorite charities and what they do.教学重点:正确拼读并且熟练掌握本课重点单词,掌握所学句型。教学难点:能用故事形式复述本课的采访。教学过程:Part A:1、Background: UNICEF, the United Nations Childrens Fund, now works in 158 countries, areas and territories. Their work involves helping prevent childhood illness and death, making pregnancy and childbirth safe, combating discrimination and cooperating with communities to ensure that girls as well as boys attend school. It was created after World War II to relieve the suffering of children in war-torn Europe. 2、Daniel is listening to a radio program about UNICEF. Explain the context of Part A1. Tell students to close their books. Then play recording. Ask them just to listen to the tape to try to get its main idea. Ask students to open their books and read the sentences. Try the first time to reorder the sentences. Play the recording, ask students to listen to it again and put the sentences in the order by putting the numbers. Read out the sentences each and then the whole class read it together.3、Ask students to read the information in Part A2 and the questions in Part A3. What is the charity called? When and where was it set up? Why was it set up? How does UNICEF help government and families?4、Tell students that they can use the information on Page 86 to complete Daniels report in Part A4 using the words from the box. Choose several students to read out one sentences at a time. Encourage to raise questions.5、Language points: make the world a better place for provide sth. to/ for sb. fund-raising activities set up: sb. set up sth./ sth be set up by sb.The workers set up a building last year./ A building was set up by the workers.Part B:1. Ask students to think about what they did before and what they do now.2.Discuss the problems facing the world today: hunger / war / pollution / poverty / loss of wildlife habit / lack of education / overpopulation / sickness / natural disasters, etc. 3.Tell students to think about which problems are the most important or serious, the different charities they have learned about in this unit: Which one do they like to support and why.4.Ask students to listen to the recording for the first time without referring to the conversation and tell them to repeat what they have heard.5.Then tell them to work in pairs by changing the roles of the conversation.6.Tell students to make up their own conversations about their favourite charities, using the above one as a model. Give them sometimes to practise the conversations and then start the role-play before the whole class.E.g.: Amy: How do you spend your pocket money?Kitty: I used to buy snacks and pictures of pop stars. Now I am used to buying books with my pocket money. How about you?Amy: I used to spend all of my pocket money on comic books and football stickers. But now, I am trying to save money to give to charities.Kitty: Charities? How many Charities do you know?Amy: For example, ORBIS, WWF, UNICEF, Oxfam, World vision, and so on.Kitty: Oh, you know so many charities! But which is your favorite charity?Amy: UNICEF. Because it helps poor children live better. What about you? Kitty: I like ORBIS best because lots of people in poor areas do not have money to treat their eye problems.
