Teaching Objectives 1. Language Objective New words and phrasesexpert, desert, supply, abandoned , be short for, in the 1920s2. Ability Objective To let the students learn how to improve the abilities of reading in different ways; To enable the students to describe their traveling experiencing; To get the students to know something about Australia.3. Moral Objectives To cultivate students love toward nature ; To enhance students awareness of national identity and cultivate students patriotism and love to ones hometown; To make them learn to cooperate with others and feel the interest of contact with others.II. Important Points 1. To train the students reading ability and help them find useful information;2. To make the students know how to express the main idea of this text.III. Difficult Point1. To help students summarize useful information and vocabulary to describe their traveling experience;2. To make students learn how to analyze and grasp the main idea of the passage IV. Teaching Methods1. Teaching methodsTask-based method, learner-centered method, pair work, questions method,skimming and scanning2. Teaching Aids: the multimedia, blackboard and chalk, PPTV. Teaching Procedures Step I Greeting (1min)T: Good morning, everyone!S: Good morning, Miss Step II Pre-reading (10 mins)1. Introduce Australia to the students through picture/PPT to arouse the students interest and then answer the question on page222. VocabularyT: Its nice to see you here, now lets begin our class. Today were going to learn the passage“My first ride on a train”. First please look at the title and the picture beside the title. Can you tell me the type of this passage?S: (Travel notes)T: Yes, it is travel notes, since it is travel notes, there must be a destination. So where is the destination?S: (Australia)T: How much do you know about Australia?S: Basic information of Australia:Australia is a country in the southern hemisphere. It has 8 million square kilometers. One third of Australias land is desert. It is the sixth largest country in the world, but has a relatively small population .it has a population of 20 million people. Most of the people live in the coastal cities like Sydney, Melbourne.T: Now please look at Activity 1 on Page 22, there are some questions about Australia, have aquick look and tell me which one you dont know. Do you know how many people live there ? (20 million) Do you know the name of the capital city? (Canberra) Where do you think most of the people live, in the central part of the country on the coast? (On the coast)What do you think the central part of the country is like?(Desert ) What Australian animals do you know about?( Koala bear kangaroo duckbilled platypus emu)T: so much for the introduction of Australia, now lets look at the words in Activity 2 on page 22, there are some new words in the box. These words will appear in this passage. Ask students read the passage and then let them discuss these questions2. To scan each part one by one, then finish the charts or questions of each partQuestions: What can we know about the passage? How can we divide the passages?Suggested answers: It is about traveling to the central part of Australia three parts: Part One (1) she tells when and where her travel took place.Part Two (2-3) she describes the scenery all the journey. Part Three (4-6) she explains the origin of Ghan train and the means of transport for travelling.Part One (1) she tells when and where her travel took place. At first there were fields , then it was desert. Did he study while she was on the train?Yes, she studied Chinese on the train Did the Australians use horses to travel to the central part of the country?Yes, they tried riding horses, but the horses didnt like the hot weather.
