What is the real life, and how to avoid numb to die in the life? The film “Shawshank Redemption” is inspired us to think about this question, and with the vivid characters fate in the film it reveals something to us: with hope and unremitting efforts, break away from sin and create new. This is the Shawshank redemption and also ours.Freedom is a seed buried in the heartIn the film, the hero Andy was mistaken for murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. In this impregnable siege prison, he was witnessing a lot of corruption. So he knew that he was difficult to recover his innocent, the only way to live is jailbreak. Indeed, Andys mind always save a seed which named “freedom” and it has taken root in the deep of his heart. He started implement his plan secretly, and with the professional knowledge in finance he became the right-hand man of the guards, even became the private financial assistant of the warden, these treatment plans for Andy escaped with implementation possible. At the same time, Andys talent and personality made him win the sincere friendship from Red. He even selflessly helped many prisoners in prison to get the equivalent education, because he wants lay a foundation for their free social life in the future. What Andy has done is a perfect interpretation of the word “salvation”. As classic lines said in the film: it takes a strong man to save himself, and a great man to save another. Andy is the great man, no doubt on this point.Film has such three scenes: one is that in a bright spring morning, the prisoners after finished work, sitting in the roof idle and leisurely drinking cold beer which is from Andys wisdom, even his life, and enjoys the warm sunshine to rest. It seems on them own roof, enjoying the hard-won freedom. In another scene, after Andy opened the music, the music of Mozart has been sound in prison. The beautiful high voice echoed over the whole prison, all people, including prisoners and prison guards toward the direction of the music sound at the moment, quiet listening and forget the bondage of the walls. The third scene is that Andy built the best prison library in England, through his own unremitting efforts finally. In the library, prisoners can be as free as the outside people to get free air.Andy has done many effects for prisoners: to risk his live only to fight for them an opportunity of a free drink; he would rather has sinned against the warden and the most horrible prison guards just let them feel the music in the free feeling; more than ten years like one day, he wrote letters in order to obtain subsidize and use these built a decent library. In Andys view, he has done everything only for one word, which is called “freedom”. People alive cant afford to lose freedom. We should try our best to fight for freedom even if in prison. Because in his view, people live is to fight for their own freedom. In Shawshank prison, there is no “freedom” at all, because the spread of the institutionalized let people suffocating, in the film, Red described it this way: fist you hate them, then, you get used to it, enough time passesYou get so, you depended on them, that is institutionalized. In Shawshank prison, it limits the freedom in the physical aspect, but the institutionalized is from the soul to restrictions on freedom, and it also named “assimilation”. For the people who dont have a life in prison, also cant escape this fate of the institutionalization.Freedom is a buried seed in our heart, and we need to use our ideas to water it from time to time. In the film, in order to save those prisoners, Andy fights for them to get the sunshine of freedom not only once time. But for us, who will save ourselves? I think only us.Hope is the blooming flowers in the dreamIn real life, there is no one can get own ideal freedom completely, but we have the courage to live as long as we have a hope. Film performance of the miserable life and dark life in the prison, and the depressive tonal is heavy. Under this condition, whether a prisoner has a hope in his live plays a very important role for his future. The film has three persons always been contrast: The first one is Old Brooks, a library administrator who lived in prison more than 50 years, he got free but unhappy, because he lived in fear all day after he left prison and suicide finally. The second person is Red. After leaving prison, he faces the same mind as Old Brooks, but there is a little hope from Andy in his heart, he survived ultimately. The third person is Andy, through his own unremitting efforts, including crawling 500 yards of the sewage pipe, he got free and excited.Through these scenarios, why the three persons have so much difference after they get free? I think it because of this word-HOPE. Old Brooks never want to leave prison, and he is already lost hope and willing to be institutionalized. Hope is the root of pain to him. But in Andys mind, he never gives up the hope of liberty. And he made many hard effects for his hope, such as to dig the wall use the little hammer every night. In the film, Andy made a good interpretation of hope: forget that there areplacein the world that are not made out of stone, there is somethinginsidethat they cannot get to that is hope. Indeed, just as Andy said, prison with high walls can tie our physical freedom, even institutionalizing things can bind our spiritual freedom, but only the hope may not be given up. Lose hope of ones life is gray and meaningless. As an old saying: where there is life, there is hope. It is also right in turn: where there is hope, there is life. Just as the words Andy wrote to Red: Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.This film tells us that freedom is the premise of hope. If you dont have a hope or the courage of pursuing hope, you are not free in real. Strictly speaking, it is hard to achieve their ideal of freedom, but this is not to say give up to fight for freedom, and this process is a persons whole life. We should sustenance freedom on our own hope, as a result, freedom and hope is associated with each other. In my opinion, the film seems to tell us this subject.ConclusionThe end of the film is like this: in the beach sides of a boat, two old friends met each other finally, and both of them were very pleasant and with a smile, under the blue sky and sunshine. This ending scene has a very profound meaning, blue sky and vast sea symbolizes the ideal of freedom, the boat and two old friends smile is a symbol of good hope for their future. This ending has been able to touch peoples hearts, because it blend the freedom and hope perfectly, and presented to us together.The Shawshank Redemption is a great motivational film, and it is worth to read again and again.
