Unit 5 Im watching TV. (Grade 7)1. Teaching content:Section A (Page 25-26)2. Analysis of the teaching material:In Section A, it first provides names of activities such as watching TV, eating, cleaning and so on. Then it introduces the drills of the present progressive tense. After the students learn it, they will be able to act out activities and make statements about themselves.3. Analysis of the students status:The students have already learnt the phrases which are helpful for this lesson. The students will learn how to use present progressive tense and express the activities that the people are doing.4. Teaching aims:1) Knowledge and skillsReview some phrases of activities, learn to talk about what people are doing; the Present Progressive Tense and Yes/ No questions and answers.2) Processes and methodsWith the studying strategies of cooperating, get the students to do pairwork to talk about what people are doing using the teaching-ware, pictures, flashcards or objects; learn how to describe peoples activities with some verb phrases. Get the students to practice listening and speaking by discussing and making a survey. Get the students to do group work to describe peoples activities and get on well with each other. 3) Emotion, attitudes and valueThe lesson is close to the students everyday lives and the topic deals with the students everyday activities, so its helpful for them to experience their everyday lives, love their lives. It can train the students to describe others activities and lead them to observe each other carefully and actively. Also it can arouse the students special attention and inspire them to become interested in learning English. At the same time, it can bring up the students feelings of solicitude and friendship to their classmates.5 Teaching important points & Teaching difficult points:1) Teaching important points Phrases: Words: reading, cleaning, doing homework, watching TV, eating dinner, talking on the phoneTarget language: What are you doing? Im watching TV. What is he/she doing? Hes/ shes reading. Is he/she doing homework? Yes, he /she is. No, he/she isnt2) Teaching difficult points:1) The structure and usage of the Present Progressive Tense, the basic sentence patterns2) The structures and usage of Yes/ No questions and answers3) Master the vocabulary of everyday activities and the usage of present participles of verbs; get the students to describe peoples activities. Train students listening, speaking, reading and writing. 5. Teaching and learning methods:Teaching methods: Task methodLearning methods:guessing, pairwork, classifying, groupwork, observing, listening, speaking, writing6. Teaching tools:A tape recorder, pictures and cards7. Teaching procedures:(1 period)Step 1: warming-up and lead-in 1) A game: The students learn a clapping game from the teacher. (T and Ss can relax a little bit and concentrate on T from this game)2) A.T pretends to talk on the phone and ask the Ss “What am I doing?” The Ss guess out and say “Talking on the phone”. B. T shows the cards on which the phrases are written such as doing homework, watching TV and so on. The students say the phrases after T to review them C. Finish 1a.Lead-in1) T does an action and asks” What am I doing? ” Ss answer it. Then T asks one S “What are you doing?” The S answers “Im ” Elicit the title “Im watching TV”. Then T writes a drill “What are you doing? Im reading / ” on the blackboard. Read after T two times2) Practice the drill by the game “Wooden man”. The Ss can do any actions they like while T plays the music or says “One, two, three” But the Ss need to keep the action when T stops the music or says “Stop”. Then T points to one S. The class asks “What are you doing?”The S answers “Im reading/” Play it several times.Step 2: Elicit a new drill and the Ss practice it.1) T asks one S “What do you like to do?” The S answers it. Then T asks him “You must be very good at it. Can you show us?” T elicits the new drill “What is he doing? He is playing basketball/”2) The same procedure with the new drill “What is she doing? She is playing basketball/” 3) The Ss read two times after T.4) Ss practice them by a game. T divides the class into two groups. Chooses a boy from a group. He stands in front of the group and does as many actions as he can in one minute. Another group asks “Whats he doing?” The group that the boy is in answers “Hes reading/” They have the same procedure with the second group to practice the drill “Whats she doing? Shes eating/” but T chooses a girl instead of a boy. Have a group competition. The group that can say more correct sentences is the winner. Step 3: 1)Play the tape of Part 1b, get the Ss to listen and write the numbers from 1a. 2) Play the tape of 2a, the Ss finish 2a. 3) Play the tape of 2b, the Ss finish 2b.Step 4: Elicit a new drill and the Ss practice it.T elicits new drills “Is he/she doing homework? Yes, he/she is.” by a guessing game. T shows the back of a boy or a girl. The Class guesses it. The Ss do the pairwork looking at the pictures. Finish 2c.Step 5: Sum up the rules of the present participle1. T points to the first column in which the above-mentioned phrases are. T writes “dance - dancing” as an example for the second column and “cut cutting” as an example for the third column. Ask the Ss to add more words in different columns with a group competition. The group that can write more correct words is the winner.Step 6: Say a chant after T.What are you doing?Im reading, reading. Reading makes a full man. Whats she doing?Shes cleaning, cleaning.Cleaning makes us happy. Whats he doing?Hes eating, eating. Eating makes us grow up. Step 7: Homework - Writing a composition or a dialoguePossible title 1 - In the park. Possible title 2 - Aft
