first, happiness or money? Are richer people happier? And if so,how do people get much richer?A recent study could tell you the answer. The study looked into thousands of teenagers and found that those who felt better about life as young adults tended to have higher incomes by the time they turned 29.Those who were happiest earned an average of $8,000 more than those who were the most depressed. The researchers, from University College London and the University of Warwick, say that very gloomy teens,no matter how tall or smart they were, earned 10% less than their peers, while the happier ones earned up to 30% more.Happier teenagers have an easier time getting through school, college and the job interview, chiefly because they always feel better about life.It may also be true that happier people find it easier to make friends, who are often the key to homework help or networking.A report in June suggested that professional respect was more important than dollars in terms of workplace happiness. In August scientists announced that they had found the gene for happiness in women,Alas(the same gene doesnt appear to have the same effect on men)And in October researchers in the UK and in the US announced that people who eat seven portions of fruit and vegetables a day report being the happiest. The big question is:if it is really true that happier kids end up being wealthier kids,is it necessary for parents to get their kids to do the homework? The fact is that no homework will make kids happy but surely hurt their grades.Studies do show, after all, that more education leads to betterpaid jobs, which may give us a deep thought.“These findings show that the teenagers happiness is important to their future success,” one of the reports authors writes.“But what is the most important is that we should find a way to help children gain more satisfaction from doing schoolwork.”1What conclusion can the researchers draw from the recent study?AHappy teenagers grow up to be wealthier.BMoney can make people become happier.CWealth has nothing to do with happiness at all.DSchoolwork can help teens achieve success.2The main reason why happier people have more chances to succeed is that .Athey are easy to communicate with othersBthey are good at doing their schoolworkCthey are hopeful and optimistic about their lifeDthey eat much more fruit and vegetables a day3The GoalDThe Secret of Being WealthierBNowadays many people are concerned about the problem of what to do with electronic waste such as old televisions, computers, radios, cellular telephones and other electronic equipment.Electronic trash,or ewaste,is piling up faster than ever in American homes and businesses.People do not know what to do with old televisions or computers so they throw them in the trash.National Solid Waste Management Association (NSWMA) state programs director Chaz Miller says the large amount of electronic waste Americans product is not unexpected. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates more than 400 million consumer electronic items are dumped each year, and there is a push by more states to ban the waste from landfills(垃圾填埋场) and create recycling programs. They can be torn apart and sorted for useable parts.Mike Fannon who runs the plant in Baltimore says,“There are lots of valuable metals that can be recovered and reused instead of just putting them in the landfill, and in certain components there are some materials that should not really be in the landfill.” Fannon says nearly 20 percent of electronic waste is recycled nationwide.Thirteen years ago,it was only about 6 percent.Recycling rates continue to rise as more communities have banned electronics from landfills in order to keep ewaste poisons like lead(铅) and mercury(汞) out of garbage dumps. This year several states like Vermont imposed a ban on electronic waste in landfills.More than 25 other states have also adopted bans on ewaste in landfills.Chaz Miller says more can be done to boost electronic waste recycling.“We can do much better,” noted Miller,“I think clearly our goal should be to do as well as we do recycling newspapers.”5Which of the following does NOT belong to ewaste?AOld televisions. BOld computers.COld cell phones. DOld newspapers.6Why is ewaste banned from landfills in many states?ABecause it can not be recycled.BBecause the landfills are already full.CBecause it might damage the environment.DBecause it can be shipped to other countries.7According to Mike Fannon, what might be the best way of dealing with ewaste?ARecycling it. BSelling it.CBurying it. DBreaking it.8What can we learn from the passage?AChaz Miller works for EPA.BMiller is optimistic about the future of ewaste.CAt present, less than 10 percent of ewaste is recycled.DAll states in the US have banned ewaste from landfills.七选五(2015全国)Building Trust in a Relationship AgainTrust is a learned behavior that we gain from past experiences. 9 Trust is a risk. But you cant be successful when theres a lack of trust in a relationship that results from an action where the wrongdoer takes no responsibility to fix the mistake.Unfortunately, weve all been victims of betrayal.Whether weve been stolen from, lied to,misled,or cheated on,there are different levels of losing trust.Sometimes people simply cant trust anymore. 10 Its understandable, but if youre willing to build trust in a relationship again,we have some steps you can take to get you there. 11 Having confidence in yourself will help you make better choices because you can see what the best outcome would be for your wellbeing. 12 If youve been betrayed, you are the victim of your circumstance. But theres a difference between being a victim and living with a “victim mentality”At some point in all of our lives, well have our trust tested or violated. You didnt lose “everything”Once trust is lost, what is left? Instead of looking at the situation from this hopeless angle, look at everything you still have and be thankful for all of the good in your life. 13 Instead, its a healthy way to work through the experience to allow room for positive growth and forgiveness.ALearn to really trust yourself.BIt is putting confidence in someone.CStop regarding yourself as the victim.DRemember that you can expect the best in return.ETheyve been too badly hurt and they cant bear to let it happen again.FThis knowledge carries over in their attitude toward their future relationships.GSeeing the positive side of things doesnt mean youre ignoring what happened.加练半小时英语答案精析第49练人文社会类高考高频单词与短语识记排查1government2.to organize3.historical4.origin 5incidents6.in7.from8.beyond9.out10.in阅读能力专练.1.A推理判断题。在文章第二、三段中作者通过对几千名青年人的调查发现:越是幸福的人,他们的收入越高。最后一段作者得出了结论,即“These findings show that the teenagers happiness is important to their future success”(青少年的幸福对他们未来的成功很重要)。由此可见,幸福的孩子长大后会更富有,故答案为A项。2C推理判断题。根据第四段第一句“Happier teenagers have an easier time.they always feel better about life.”可知,感到幸福的青年人更容易完成学业,更容易找到工作,其主要原因是他们总是感到生活是美好的,故答案为C项。3A词义猜测题。画线词后面的“while the happier ones earned up to 30% more”中while表示对比,根据while后的the happier可推知画线词“gloomy”的意思应为“not happy”,故答案为A项。4D标题归纳
