A Lesson Plan for Unit 9 of Module 3灵宝市第一高级中学英语组 刘超伟I. Analysis of the learners As Senior 3 students, they have mastered the basic skills and abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Whats more, they have learned Module 3 in Grade one. In other words, they are familiar with the content which will be reviewed. However, according to the research into my students, they prefer to read and write rather than listen and speak. Besides, what puzzles them most is how to memorize the words needed for the reading and writing. In fact, though they have learnt English for a few years, most of them havent still realized the real purpose of learning English, which is bad news for our English teacher. Therefore, its my responsibility to help them learn how to learn English and how to use English.II.Analysis of the teaching materialModule 3 is the third compulsory module for Senior High English and it covers such useful themes as the sea, adventure and wheels. Through these themes, the students will learn something about the sea as well as the sea stories, some adventure stories, extreme sports and learn to protect our environment. Of course, some grammars like relative clauses and present perfect continuous will be included. The students writing abilities will be improved by learning how to write a report, a brochure and a report. III. Analysis of the teaching goals1. Objectives of information1). key teaching pointsUse what the students have learned in Unit 9 to write a composition on environment-protecting.2). difficult teaching pointsHow to use what the students have learned to complete the composition.3). focus on NMETThe topic of the composition to be written is common in the NMET.2. Objectives of competenceTo improve the students abilities on how to use what they have learned.3. Objectives of affectionTo arouse the students awareness of protecting our environment.4. Objectives of cultureTo know what the foreign countries have done to protect the environment.IV.Analysis of the teaching methodsThe main teaching method in my class is Task-based approach. Apart from this kind of method, Multi-media teaching method, Elicitation teaching method and Discussion teaching method will also be included. I will choose the proper method according to the content to be learned and the real situation. V.Teaching aidsA computer, a projector, a blackboard and some chalks. VI.Teaching ProceduresStep I. Lead-in Ill present the titles of the lessons in Unit 9:Lesson 1 On Your Bike Lesson 2 On the MoveLesson 3 Clean Machines Lesson 4 Car CultureThen let the students have a group discussion to review what has been talked about in these lessons. After that one of the students can tell the others what he/she has reviewed.1. The purpose of this step is to have students review what they have learned in this unit to introduce the background information and the topic of todays composition.2. I will mainly use Elicitation teaching method and Discussion teaching method to organize students to achieve the teaching aim of this step.3. The time of the step is about 8 minutes.Step II. Presentation and practice随着国家的发展,汽车在人们的日常生活中起着非常重要的作用,它们在给人们便利的同时也带来了好多问题。假如你是李华,针对这一现象提出了三条建议。请用英语向你校外籍学生阐述这三条建议并说明理由1.尽量步行或骑自行车 2.用公共交通工具 3.拼车要求:1.字数100左右。2.可适当增加细节,以使行文连贯。Present the theme of the composition and ask the students to finish it in 15 minutes.1. The purpose of this step is to train the students abilities of writing in restricted time to adapt to the requirements of the NMET.2. I will mainly use Multi-media teaching method and Task-based approach to organize students to achieve the teaching aim of this step.3. The time of the step is about 15 minutes.Step III. ProductionHave a discussion in groups according to the following requirements.1. The structure of your composition and reasons.2. The tense used in your composition and reasons.3. The sentences which you think are beautiful in your compositionAfter the discussion one of the students can tell the others his opinion.1. The purpose of this step is to have students learn to analyze and conclude something and train the students writing skills.2. I will mainly use Discussion teaching method and Task-based approach to organize students to achieve the teaching aim of this step.3. The time of the step is about 8 minutes.Step IV. ConsolidationOne possible version:As our country develops, cars play an increasingly important role in our daily life. Not only are they convenient for us, but they also bring some problems.To solve these problems, immediate action should be taken. First, use our legs or ride bikes. Over 25% of car journeys are short journeys where we could easily walk or cycle. Second, use public transport. On average, about 40 people travel in one bus, while the same people occupy 33 cars. Third, share cars. Sharing journeys with someone else is much cheaper and kinder to the environment.All in all, only if we unite together can we contribute much to our environment and live longer than expected.First present one possible version and let students read it carefully.Then let students have a discussion in groups again according to the following requirements.1. Analyze the structure and the tense of the given version.2. Compare your own composition with the version and try to find out what you have learned.After the discussion one of the students can tell the others his/her opinion and Ill exchange my opinion on it.1. The purpose of this step is to have students learn how to write this kind of composition through self-reflection and self-conclusion and at the same time improve their writing abilities. 2.
