Even though New Zealand has quite liberal rules about naming children, names beginning with 10 are not allowed. They decided to call him Superman instead. In many countries around the world, unusual names for children are becoming more popular, especially since the 11 trend for celebrities to give their children wacky(funny) names. In Britain, you can call a child almost anything you like- the only restrictions on parents relate to offensive words such as swear words. Some parents choose names which come from 12 . For example, there have been six boys named Gandalf after the character in the Lord of the Rings novels and films. Equally, names related to sport are fairly common since 1984, 36 children have been called Arsenal after the football team. Other parents like to 13 names, or combine names to make their own unique version, a method demonstrated by Jordan, the British model, who recently invented the name Tiamii for her daughter by combining the names Thea and Amy (the two grandmothers). She was quoted as saying that the accent and double letters were added to make the name “more exotic”. Other countries have much 14 when it comes to naming children. Countries including Japan, Denmark, Spain, Germany and Argentina have an approved list of names from which parents must choose. In China, there are some rules about what you may call a child no foreign letters or symbols are allowed. As a result a couple were recently banned from calling their baby .In Britain, some names which were previously thought of as old-fashioned have become more popular again, such as Maisie or Ella for a girl, or Elfie or Noah for a boy. But the most popular names are not the wacky ones. The 15 are fairly traditional - Jack, Charlie and Thomas for boys and Grace, Ruby and Jessica for girls. 单项选择(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)请根据题意,从1625各题所给的A、B、C和D项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。16. It took place during the first week of the term. Every kid was given a job for which they would be responsible for the rest of that school year. Some jobs were more interesting than others, and the children were eager to be given one of the best ones. When giving them out, the teacher took into account which pupils had been most responsible during the previous year. During the previous year Rita had carried out the teachers instructions perfectly. All the children knew Rita would be given the best job.But there was a big surprise. Each child received a normal job. But Ritas job was very different. She was given a little box containing some sand and one ant. Though the teacher insisted that this ant was very special, Rita felt disappointed. Most of her classmates felt sorry for her. Even her father became very angry with the teacher and he encouraged Rita to pay no attention to this insignificant pet. However, Rita preferred to show the teacher her error by doing something special with that job of little interest.Rita started investigating all about her little ant and gave the ant the best food, and it grew quite a bit bigger. One day, a man, who looked very important, came into their classroom and declared, “Your class has been chosen to accompany me, this summer, on a journey to the tropical rain forest, where we will investigate all kinds of insects. Among all the schools of this region, your class has best cared for the little ant.”That day the school was filled with joy and celebration. Everyone thanked Rita for having been so patient and responsible. And many children learnt that to be given the most important task you have to know how to be responsible even in what are the smallest tasks.26. What does the underlined sentence mean?A. Each child got an important job.B. Each child got an interesting job.C. The perfect student got the job of everyones preference.D. The most responsible student got the job of least interest.27. What is Ritas attitude to her fathers suggestion?A. Negative. B. Uncertain. C. Totally positive. D. Accepted.28. We can infer that the man who made the declaration is a _.A. hunter B. director C. biologist D. principal29. What would be the best title for the passage?A. Never complain about life.B. Small tasks can lead to fortunes.C. Men are best known by their friends.D. Responsibility and intelligence bring good luck.BWe can achieve knowledge either actively or passively(被动地). We achieve it actively by direct experience, by testing and proving an idea, or by reasoning. We achieve knowledge passively by being told by someone else. Most of the learning that takes place in the classroom and the kind that happens when we watch TV or read newspapers or magazines is passive. Conditioned as we are to passive learning, its not surprising that we depend on it in our everyday communication with friends and co-workers.Unfortunately, passive learning has a serious problem. It makes us tend to accept what we are told even when it is little more than hearsay and rumor(谣言).Did you ever play the game Rumor? It begins when one person writes down a message but doesnt show it to anyone. Then the person whispers it, word for word, to another person. That person, in turn, whispers it to still another, and so on, through all the people playing the game. The last person writes down the message word for word as he or she hears it. Then the two written statements are compared. Typically, the original message has changed.Thats what happens in daily life. The simple fact that people repeat a story in their own words changes the story. Then, too, most people listen imperfectly. And many enjoy adding their own creative touch to a story, trying to improve on it, stamping(打上标记)it with their own personal style. Yet those who hear it think they know. This process is also found among scholars and authors: A statement of opinion by one writer may be re-stated as fact by another, who may in turn be quoted by yet another; and this process may continue, unless it occurs to someone to question the facts on which the original writer based his opinion or to challenge the interpretation he placed upon those facts.30. According to the passage, passive learning may occur in _. A. doing a medical experimentB. solving a math problem C. visiting an exhibitionD. doing scientific reasoning31. The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refers to _. A. active learningB. knowledgeC. communicationD. passive learning32. The author mentions the game Rumor to show that _. A. a message may be changed when being passed on B. a message should be delivered in different ways C. people may have problems with their sense of hearing D. people tend not to believe in what they know as rumor33. What can we infer from the passage? A. Active learning is less important.B. Passive learning may not be reliable. C. Active learning occurs more frequently. D. Passive learning is not found among scholars. CAll parents know that one of their most important tasks is to prepare their children for an independent life, but any parent can tell you that its hard to let go of your children. That balance between keeping your children safe and allowing them to learn from their own mistakes can be heartbreaking. Years of experience means that parents often do know best, but on the other hand, the young, being less bound by tradition, are often more creative, more able to find new solutions to old problems. Revolutions are led by the young.Good teachers make the growth of critical (批判性的) thinking easier in their students, only to find that this can lead to a questioning of the teachers basic beliefs. Schools encourage parents to become involved, but are often embarrassed when parents have reservations about some of the educational methods being used. Governments encourage unimportant groups to empower themselves in order to participate fully in the development process. And they are often surprised when the new leaders of these groups turn around and attack the policies of that same government. The rebellious (叛逆的)young and the newly unimportant groups are important in social development. They are not necessarily representatives(代表)of those they want to represent or not realistic in their demands, but their voices must be heard.Good parents know that just forbidding particular behaviors does not prevent their children from finding ways to engage in these forbidden activities. Indeed, sometimes the forbidden fruit is more inviting, just because it is not accepted by authority. Parents must work with their children to educate them on the facts, know as much as possible about the lives of their children, provide a good example, encourage more wholesome activities but also support their children when they dont follow what is expected of them. But the most important point is that they also need to learn how to let go.34By saying “Revolutions are led by the young”, the author means that young people are more .Aconventional(traditional) BrealisticCcreativeDheartbreaking35From the second paragraph we know .Ateachers basic beliefs should be questioned by studentsBschools encourage parents to question their education methodsCmovement is satisfied with the new leaders attack on the policiesDthe voice of the rebellious young should be heard by the government36In order to educate children well, parents should .Aforbid particular behaviors in their daily lifeBknow them well and set a good example to themCeducate them with facts and expect much of themDknow as much as possible as their children37What is the best title of the passage?ALetting Go for Childrens Independent LifeBParents Tasks in Childrens DevelopmentCWay of Growth for the Young GroupsDTeaching Methods for Teachers and Schools第二节 篇章填空(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。请把答案填涂在答题卡上。 How to Start Your Day Right What we do in our day, how we act, and how we react to situations and to people, is equally important to how we start our day. Often, we start our day with a schedule. But less often do we choose to do certain things that will help jump-start our day. Its important to get our day off to a good start because how we start our day will determine how the rest of the day goes. Here I share some tricks with you to start your day right. 38 Whatever you believe can and will come to pass. Believe that you can accomplish great things and you can reach your goals, and you will. If you start your day with fear, youre already on a path to ruin the rest of your day. Leave yesterday in the past. Yesterday has come and gone. Too many people do not progress in life because they live in the events of yesterday. 39 You cannot live it over. You cannot do it over. Stop regretting and start living today. Pursue purpose. Every day you live is based upon the days that have already passed. Each day should be a strong pursuit of purpose. 40 That will last longer than you. Set goals. Start your day with goals that you want to reach. 41 On your worst days, if you keep your goals front and center in your mind, they will push you and pull you forward. Adjust your attitude. We dont feel great every day but we can choose to feel great, look great, and be great with a little adjustment of the attitude. The right attitude will carry you a very long way._42 A. Be sure to have faith. B. Dont make it too difficult to reach. C. Make right choices when facing trouble. D. There is nothing you can do to change the past. E. Struggle to do something great and meaningful. F. Your goals will keep you focused, stable, and clear. G. The right attitude can also change situations to turn in your favor. 完形填空 (共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)阅读下面短文,掌握其大意,然后从4362各题所给的A、B、C和D项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。Once upon a time in a land far far away, there was a 43 old man who loved everything.
