Good Will Hunting won two of the nine Oscars for which it was nominated (提名). It was one of the most lucrative (获利的) films of 1997 and earned about $225, 933, 435 worldwide. However, there are still things about its production that even the biggest Good Will Hunting fans might not know. Damon said that he began writing Good Will Hunting for a playwriting class he was taking at Harvard University. After the course ended, he asked his childhood friend Affleck to help him perfect the story. Damon said that the only scene that survived was the one in which his character, a math genius, meets his psychologist. Finally, Castle Rock Entertainment bought the script (剧本). Will Hunting was a physics genius at first. At the suggestion of Harvard professor and Nobel Prize-winning physicist Sheldon Glashow, Damons character, Will Hunting, became a math genius instead. Glashows brother-in-law, Daniel Kleitman, went on to work with Damon and Affleck to make sure that the dialogue would be believable. “Before I saw the movie, I was very worried that the math scenes in the movie would be foolish. But when I saw the movie, I said, They did well! and I remember being very pleased, ” Kleitman said. Mel Gibson could have directed it. Damon told Boston, a monthly magazine, that their first choice for the films director was Kevin Smith, whod directed Chasing Amy. However, Damon said, Smith refused because he didnt feel he was right for the project. He did, however, tell his friend Harvey Weinstein to read the script, and Weinsteins company Miramax ended up buying it from Castle Rock Entertainment in 1995. Then they met with other directors, including Mel Gibson. Mel Gibson directed it for a few months. However, he gave up at last. So Gus Van Sant finally directed the film. 【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文。心灵捕手是一部励志剧情电影。本文主要介绍了这部电影鲜为人知的幕后故事。24. What can we know about Good Will Hunting? A. It was a successful film. B. It won nine Oscars in all. During his lifetime, he acted in 13 films, and he wrote, directed and acted in 69 other films. Chaplin was born in London in 1889. As a poor boy, he was often seen waiting outside the London theatres, hoping to get work in show business. He could sing and dance, and above all, he knew how to make people laugh. But he couldnt get work and therefore wandered about the city streets. Sometimes he was sent away to a home for children who had no parents. Charlie Chaplin first acted when he was five. He broke into show business because his mother, a music-hall performer, lost her voice during the performance and had to leave the stage, and Charlie went on and sang a well-known song. Halfway through the song a shower of money poured onto the stage. Charlie stopped singing and told the audiences he would pick the money first and then finish the song. The audiences laughed. This was the first of millions of laughs in Charlie Chaplins fabulous career(神话般的生涯). Twenty years later the same Chaplin became the greatest and best loved comedian in the world. His dream came true in the end. Chaplin became world-famous and almost a king in the world of the film. Even people who dont understand English can enjoy Chaplins films because they are mostly silent. The equipment for adding sound to films had not yet been developed. The development of films with sound became a problem for Chaplin, as he was uncertain about making films with dialogues. Instead, he continued to make films without dialogue, but he added music, which he wrote himself. It isnt what he says that makes us laugh. His comedy doesnt depend on words. It depends on little actions which mean the same thing to people the world over. Chaplins later films, however, were not well received. Chaplin lived most of his life in America and the last years in Switzerland, where he was buried at Christmas 1977, at the age of eighty-eight. There was sadness all over the world at the news of his death. In his book, Chaplin tells us how to succeed in life. He says, “You have to believe in yourself.
