Through fast reading& careful reading, help students get a general idea of this passage: save money, stop erosion, help develop local economy; 2. Improve the students ability of writing by asking them to find out some key words which can be used in writing a passage called “Erosion and Economy” ; 3. Help students have an idea that we should save money, help other people who are in poor conditions.Teaching Importance: Reading & Writing Teaching Difficulties: Speaking& WritingTeaching Aids: Multi- media & blackboard.Teaching Process: I: Greetings& Daily report ( give comments on the students daily report)II: Warm-up T:Boys and girls, Yesterday was the weekend. So did you go home? Yes, most of you went home, So Id like to ask you a personal question, Did you get any pocket money from your parents? If you got, how much? Ss: . T: Yes, good. All of you can get pocket money from your parents. And then, How do you spend your money? Buy beautiful clothes/ Go shopping/ Play computer games/. Ss T: I think you can enjoy a good life today. You can study well, eat well, also you can have many kinds of leisure activities. But differently, there are still some children who live in poor areas. They cant go to school, and some of them must work at a very young age, and there are some areas which were badly destroyed by pollution, people who live there can not make a living. ( Show some pictures of the poor areas on the multi-media) , What can we do to help these people? Ss: T: (Suggested Answers: 1.Dont waste money/food;2.collect/save money for charities; 3.send money/clothes/food/books to Hope Project;4.try to protect/improve the environment.)III: Fast Reading ( Get general idea of the passage) T: Now, this time we are going to read lesson 3: Your money. First, please read the passage and while you are reading, try to fill out the table. If I give you the question, please find out the answer in the passage; and if I give you the answer, please give me your question. A lot of soil has been removed 3.You 4.Buy goods/services, develop local economyIV: Careful Reading T: Now, after having a general idea of this passage, please read it in details. And then answer the questions in exercise 4.1.Which river is being talked about in the article?2.In which area has soil erosion almost destroyed farming land?3. What can people do to help stop soil erosion?4. Why does the writer say 5 yuan is important?5. Which example in given to show that 5 yuan can help to develop a local economy? Ss:. T: ( five minutes later, ask some students to answer these questions, While asking them to answer these questions , explain some important phrases, such as: make a living, play an important role in doing sth, make sb/sth do sth,etc.)(Suggested Answers: 1. The Yellow River;2. Some areas in Shan xi.3.Planting trees;4.Because it can buy a tree, and can stop erosion thus can develop local economy;5.The Jiuchegong Valley in Inner Mongolia.) VI: Writing T: Now this passage tells us something about the Yellow River erosion, the writer also appeals us to protect/save our motherland, So what can we do to save it ? Ss: T: Yes, we can save our five yuan, to buy a tree, then we can make the soil stay on the land thus stop erosion. And if there is serious erosion, what bad effects can it bring to us? Ss:. T: Erosion can not help develop local economy, people cannot grow crops on the land which has been serious destroyed. But if we can stop erosion, the local economy can be .(improved), people can plant crops and can make a living, so it can help improve the .( lives of local people) So can I say that there is some relationship between economy and erosion? Ss: T: So If I want you to write a passage whose title is Economy and Erosion”, What will you write? Ss:. T: (Suggested Answers: 1.Causes/reasons of erosion; 2.Bad effect caused by erosion 3.It is a huge job to control erosion;4.Good effect brought by stopping erosion) T: Ok, this is my suggestion of this passage, now according to my suggestions, please think about how to write the passage in details.
