The topic of this unit is a brief introduction of the United Kingdom, especially that of London. This passage mainly introduces how the United Kingdom was formed, the similarities and differences between the four countries and specific description of England and London. The passage is made up of 6 paragraphs. The first three paragraphs are mainly about the four parts of the United Kingdom. The fourth paragraph mainly talks about England while the last two paragraphs focus on London. The topic is complex and unfamiliar because it deals with the subjects of history and geography. There are also some new words and phrases in the passage. So the passage is a little difficult for the students. Teaching objectives:1. To enable the students to know about how the UK was formed geographically and historically. 2. To get the students to learn about the characteristics of England and London.3. Let the students read the paragraph quickly to get the main idea.2. Ask the students to work in pairs and draw a timetable or a picture to show the process of the formation of the UK. 3.
