By and large, misfortunes are part of our life. Death of spouse, injury or illness of a family member, bankruptcy of a business, loss of property, resignation from office, being laid-off from work, divorce or early retirement are all only too common. Besides, there are other natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, droughts, fires, train collisions, air-crashes, and car accidents, which are often beyond our predictions.For instance, if you are a pilot flying a big air bird, you might be hijacked or your plane might be on the blink before you get to your destination. If luck is on your side and you land safe and sound, you will feel in the seventh heaven and would rush home as if on the wings of the wind. But, when you get back home, you might be taken aback at the sight of your house because it had been broken into. Then you might be in a tearing hurry to call the cops. If they are unenthusiastic, it might take donkeys years for them to arrive, let alone to catch the criminal who is still at large. Even if you caught the criminal red-handed, you may still have worries about him, as he may plan a perfect murder of you for revenge when he is out of the cage. If he goes easy on you, he may gun for your wife and your kids and of course, you will be again on pins and needles when you are out to work. You may then be panic-stricken. But when you open your eyes to the outside world, you may have a rude awakening and realize that there are many other fellows who are in the same boat. Continuous disasters and sad and horrible news may keep running in and make your hair stand on end.A woman in the family way, for example, might be beaten black and blue or be knocked into the middle of next week. If she is hospitalised, her husband might have ants in his pants and would lose on time to go to see her. But on his way to the hospital, he might be copped out by the police for speeding or he might bump into another car. It is by no means surprising that there will be blows after blows, and one misfortune follows another. Even if you are a government head, with several personal guards, your life is still threatened by many unpredictable happenings: you may be assassinated by someone who hates your guts; you may be kidnapped and held hostage; you may be overthrown by a political rival who has got the upper hand; you may suffer a heart-attack at work or you may even get killed in an accident.All in all, on your black letter day, nothing will go your way.
