Appreciation of Wordsworths poem“I wandered lonely as a cloud”from the Angle of language ArtsAbstract:This article centres on the artistic effect of language skills in Wordsworths poem“I wandered lonely as a cloud”,this poem is his expression of deep love for nature.After the analysis we can feel the simplicity and purity of language by which his poetry is distiguished.Key word:language arts artistic effect nature Introduction:Wordsworth is a great poet of nature and he wrote a lot of short lyrics to express his deep love for nature.As he had said that:All good poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings.”The poem “I wandered lonely as a cloud”is one of his good works as a result from his overflow of powerful feelings.In this poem,we can feel the poets heart was filled wuth happiness when lonely poet found great comfort from the dance of daffodils and at last dance with daffodils.Analysis: a. The separative analysis of language arts of different stanzas in this poem: In the first stanza,the poet used“cloud” to represent himself that he wandered lonely among vales and hills.“lonely”was the word that wordsworth used very often in his poetry for nature.Here,“lonely “expressed the poets loneliness and light depression.In the third line,“all at once”lied in the top of four clauses which expressed exactly the distraction of the poets attention. In the second stanza,the number of descriptive adjectives in this stanza was the most among the four stanzas,in this stanza,the first two lines:“continuous as the stars that shine” and “And twinkle on the milky way” are the adverbial modifier of the third line “they stretched”Generally,the main part of descriptive sentence in English is occupied by subject,however,here,the poet through two lines of adverbial modifier to descibe that daffodils are alike shinning stars .This placement has deep meaning that it hightlights the majority and beauty of the daffodils.In the fifth line,the object“ten thousand”was put advanced which also hightlights the majority of the flower.In the third line,the word “never-ending”was used to convey that the endless spread and majority of the daffodils,besides,the use of hyphen has the function of being lengthen by visual.Wordsworth organised common words skifully and conveyed deep meanings and tastes to us.Additionally,the tense of the metaphorical sentence was set in present tense but not in past tense that the context used .The change suggets that the beauty of the daffodils had left wonderful memories in the heart of the poet that it wouldnt fade away as time goes by. In the third stanza,the word“dance”in the first two stanzas was used to descibe the dancing posture of the daffodils.Here,the poet used the word to describe the ripple of the wave.The two words of the third line“not but”were well-used to descibe the charm of the dancing posture of the daffodils.The poet had no choice but to enjoy the beauty of the daffodils.In the fifth line,the poet repeated the word“gase”and added with two dashes which furtherly expressed that the poet had lost himself in the integration with nature. The last stanza is dominated by the expression of the poets emotion and the tense was replaced from the past tense into the present tense.Noticeably,the words like “vacant”、“pensive mood”and “solitude”echo the word”lonely”that occurred in the first stanza which makes keynote of the poem tend to be consisten and matches with the state of the mind of the poet.b.The whole analysis of language arts in meter:The basic meter of the poem is iambic tetrameter,the rhyme scheme of each stanza is ababcc.The form of this rhyme scheme are interlocked and coordinated with each other ,besides,the rhythem is neither too quickly nor too slowly that the poem can be read very fluently and smoothly ,which we can feel the daffodils were dancing elegantly and leisurely in the breeze. Additionally,the distribution of the stress is richful in changing .The basic meter of the poem is iambic tetrameter.However,trochaic was used in the last line of the first stanza ,as if the came into the sight and stirred the quietness of the poets heart when the poet wandered lonely like a cloud.In the last line of the second stanza ,the first foot was changed into trochaic.The change just like the daffodils hold their heads high and elegantly in the dancing. Last,the poet used all alliteration to enhance the musical effect of the poem.In the fifth line of the first stanza,two prepositions“beside”and “beneath”alliterate,the repetion of the rhythem increase the contact of places which makes the whole lines compactly ,and in the first line of the second stanza “stars”and “shine”semi-alliterate just like set up a bridge between daffodils and their movement ,besides,“s”is repeated in this line which implies the figure of “breeze”in the last stanza. To sum up,Wordsworth used language skills so skifully to express that the happy communication between nature and human can go
