Lesson Plan: Unit 8 When is your birthday? -Section A 1a-2cDesigner: Sun YanyanSubject: English as a foreign language (EFL)Grade Level: Grade 7 Period of Time: 40 minutesLesson Topic: Talk about datesGoal: In this lesson, students will develop the knowledge of talking about dates and practise using ordinal numbers.Teaching Aims【Knowledge and skills】The main content is to learn to ask for and express the date; try to understand more meanings of birthday by talking about your own, your classmates and your familys birthdays; Learn to arrange a right work and rest timetable for yourself. 【Processes and methods】With the studying strategies of Classifying and Role-playing, organize the teaching and get the students to do Pair work and games to learn and practice Asking for and talking about dates by using teaching pictures, flashcards, objects (hanging calendar, timetable of activities in and out of class and activity calendar) or courseware (showing the characters of months and activities in and out of class) and so on. Get the students to consolidate the target knowledge by role-playing; Learn to summarize the target knowledge by self-judgment. 【Emotion, attitudes and value】This content is close to the students life and the topic deals with birthday and activities in and out of class. It can not only build up the understanding the friendship between classmates, but also make them learn to arrange their own work and rest time to have good regularly living and studying habits by asking for birthdays and calendars of activities in and out of class.Difficulties and focus1、Grasp the usage of months and expressing of dates; 2、Grasp the usage of ordinal numbers;3、Learn the special questions that when leads;4、Learn possession case s.Materials/Resources:1. A blackboard and multimedia equipment (including computer, overhead projector, big screen, etc)2. Several pictures. 3. A piece of sheet and small pieces of paper.Teaching and studying design of mutual actionsCreate plots and scenes to guide the new lessonThe main content is to learn to ask and answer about date in Section A, so we can adopt the Audiovisual Guiding Method and Concluding and summarizing Method: At first introduce moths of year one by one, the teacher can put up a home-made calendar that showing every month on the blackboard, introduce or play courseware as pointing at each month This is January. This is February , and lead the students to read several times, and then play the tape of Activity 1a and get the students to imitate; (After reading the months) the teacher may say pointing at the calendar My birthday is on May 4. When is your birthday? and get the students to answer My birthday is , so begin to learn the target language Asking and expressing date which is the focus in this unit. Ask the students practice conversations with their own names, ages and birthdays and learn to use the target knowledge to finish the teaching task of Activity 3b.5)Get the students to play Birthday Game. Ask them to ask about each others birthdays and then arrange orders by age. In this way, get the students to practice the target language to finish the teaching task of Activity 4.Summarize and ponder【Summary】The main content in this unit is to learn months, ordinal numbers and asking and answering about dates; Learn the structures and usage of noun possession case; learn to arrange their own work and rest time.【Pondering】1、The main content is to learn how to ask about dates with the special questions which when leads and express dates with the ordinal numbers. As for the expressions of dates, its often used in everyday studying life. In fact its not difficult to grasp the knowledge if only the teacher tells them the structural knacks and the differences from Chinese and gives them much practice. But the teacher must tell the students that cardinal and ordinal numbers are both right to express dates and it is popular to use cardinal numbers to express dates in spoken-English, though only ordinal numbers are introduced in this unit. At the same time, encourage them to use the target knowledge in everyday intercourse boldly. For example, “五月四日” may be May four(th), the fourth of May. In this way, the teacher can indoctrinate a kind of consciousness: Some English habitual expressions are established by usage, sometimes irregular even incomprehensive, so we cant guess and explain them blindly. But its not to say English habitual expressions are contacted at random and they are always developing and evolving just like many idioms in Chinese. As for the teaching of habitual expressions, the teacher can introduce some English background knowledge to the students and it can help a lot.2、One important content is to learn the structures and usage of the noun p
