Teaching ObjectivesKnowledge Objectives: After this class, students are supposed to grasp the new words and phrases, which are “customs, shake hands, kiss, bow, Brazil, the United States, Japan, Mexico, Korea”. Besides, they are also expected to grasp the target language “be supposed to”.Ability Objectives: Students will be able to use the target language and new words to talk about different customs in different countries, especially how people around the world greet each other differently when they meet for the first time. Moral objectives: This lesson helps students to realize that people in different countries have different customs, and we need to “Do as the Romans do in Rome” to respect others culture and customs. A better understanding of each other depends on mutual respect. II. Teaching Methods Students-centered language teaching. Communicative Teaching. Task-based language teaching. III. Teaching AidsTextbook, computer, PPT, chalk, blackboard.IV. Teaching ProceduresStep1: Warming up1. Greet the students.2. Show students some signatures and ask them to tell the meanings.3. A video about different signatures and its different meanings in different countries is showed.Step2: Lead-in Students talk about what do people do when they meet for the first time. And share their ideas with their classmates.Step3: Presentation1. Show students three pictures and give them the new words “shake hands, kiss and bow”.2. Show students pictures of the national flags of some countries, and ask them to tell the names of the country“Brazil, the United States, Japan, Mexico and Korea”.3. Work on 1a. (Students make guesses of what are people in different countries supposed to do when they meet for the first time)4. Work on 1b. (Students listen to a conversation and check whether their guesses are right in 1a)5. Students try to make sentences according to 1a and 1b by using the target language “be supposed to” under the teachers help.Step4:Practice1. Pair-work. (Students work in pairs and make conversations like in 1c)2. Listening.Listen to a conversation and finish 2a. Listen again and finish 2b.Listen for the third time and try to answer the questions on the screen. Step5: Group workBased on the listening material, students work in groups of 4 and try to summarize the different customs between Marias country and the United States.
