Lesson PlanPEP Go for it for junior students in ChinaUnit 7 Teenagers should be allowed to choose their own clothes.Students: Grade 9, JuniorLesson Type:Grammar focusDuration: 45 minThe analysis on the teaching materialThis teaching material is from PEP Go for it for junior students in China. Its a grammar class, focusing on developing Ss grammatical strategies. In unit 5 and 6, Ss have been taught the passive voice of present tense and past tense, and in this unit, they will be taught the passive voice of modal verbs. So in some degree, Ss have already had a general idea of the passive voice and it seems easy for them to learn the passive voice of modal verbs. However, the phrases in unit 7 are kind of long so it may be a little difficult for Ss. The exercises in 4a will be used to check if Ss have known the grammar points well. And the passage in 4b will be used as a reading material. There will be some new words and phrases in grammar focus and this problem will have been settled when the class is over.The analysis on the learnersAccording to the New English Curriculum, Ss have accumulated a certain amount of basic words and expressions in this unit after learning section A. Besides, they already have initial English speaking ability and know some reading skills. They are able to make sentences imitating the sentence patterns “ should be allowed to ”. So in this lesson, they are expected to figure out the sentence structure of passive voice of modal verbs. Learning objectivesBy the end of this lesson, students will be able 1. Language knowledgeto spell the words and phrases, such as community, chance, manage, keep away from, make ones own decision, society etc.to speak out the Chinese meaning of these words and phrases.to make sentences with these words and phrases.to write sentences using passive voice of modal verbs.2. Nice to meet you. Ss: Nice to meet you, too.T: Im from Ronghuai junior middle school. You can call me Miss Yang. Im very glad to be here with you. Its my honor to give a class here. Well, do you know Ronghuai school?Ss: Yes.T: Do you like it?Ss: Yes.T: I like my school, too. But these days I feel very upset in the school because there are too many rules. A girl named Anna has the same trouble. Whats her trouble? Lets see.Step 2 Presentation (10 min)T: Anna is a sixteen-year-old girl. We have known something about her in the last classes. Look at this picture. Do you remember who they are?Ss: Yes. They are John, Gaby and Annas mom.T: The boy with a drivers license in the hand is John. The girl who gets her ears pierced is Gaby. The woman is Annas mom. Anna wants to go out with her friends but her mom says no. Whats her moms opinion?(Show a picture)T: Should sixteen-year-olds be allowed to drive?S1: No. Sixteen-year-olds should not be allowed to drive.T: Should students be allowed to choose their own clothes?S2: Yes. Students should be allowed to choose their own clothes.T: Should students be allowed to get their ears pierced?S3: No. Students shouldnt be allowed to get their ears pierced.T: These are Annas moms rules for Anna. As a teenager, she also has a lot of rules at school. (Read the phrases first) (After reading)T: Do you know “make your own decisions”? It means “decide something by yourselves”. Clear?Ss: Yes.T: Divide these rules into two parts: what should she be allowed to do and what shouldnt.Step 3 Pair work (8 min)T: Can you express your opinions to your classmates?
