Lead the students to finish the first pre-work.2. While the students do group works or present their task, the teacher offers some help.Finish the first pre-work: to read book on page 2and try to summarize the usage of the structure of “by + v.ing”:Do group works and discuss what theyve found by themselves.Try to make sentences.Do some exercises in exercise book.The students read the instructions carefully and make sure what they will do in each listening.Step3 ListeningThe students read the instructions carefully and make sure what they will do in each listening. As a lead-in to the activity 2a and 2b, the T may want to ask Ss to keep their textbooks closed while he/she introduces the context of the conversation they are about to hearT: A group of Ss are discussing the ways to learn English. Ss may then brainstorm a series of questions or ways of learning English and the T can write these on the board. After they have listened to the recording, they can compare their predictions to what they actually heard in the conversation.Play the recording again, the T guide Ss to finish 2b. The teacher offers some help if necessaryStep 4 Pair work To give Ss practice in using the target language in conversations following the sample in 2c.Step 5 Role-play Play the recording and use the following prompts to attract Ss attention:What are the names of the girl and boy in the conversation? Whats Jacks problem when he reads? And what does Annie suggest?Whats Jacks problem with words? And whats Annies advice?Check the answers and then explain some language points: be patient, word by word, word groups, probably understand more than you think, Step 6 Make a survey Ss work in groups to find out which method they find most/least effective in learning English and why. Choose some to give reports. Step 7 Consolidation and summarize Give the students sometime to prepare their second prework, and the teacher offers some help if necessary.Think about what you learned from this class.
