文档简介

A Review of The Adventures of Tom SawyerThe Adventures of Tom Sawyer was written by Mark Twain, in which tells us a story about a growing process of Tom Sawyer from a young boy to a responsible man, and some interesting stories about his friends, family, love with him. Tom is an innocent, imaginative, adventurous boy. For him, nothing can tie himself as if he is born to be a hero. Then I will express my feelings and thoughts for this novel in the relationship between Tom and Aunt Polly. As this novel said, “He pears to know just how long he can torment me before I get my dander up, and he knows if he can make out to put me off for a minute or make me laugh, its all down again and I cant hit him a lick. I aint doing my duty by that boypoor thing, and I aint got the heart to lash him, somehow. Every time I let him off, my conscience does hurt me so, and every time I hit him my old heart most breaksand Ive got to do some of my duty by him, or Ill be the ruination of the child.”(the internal monologue of aunt Polly, parts from the chapter one). Although Aunt Polly is not Toms real mother, she really loves and cares him. She does not want to punish him from the bottom of the heart, but for Toms future, she must do that. I think when doing like that, she would be heartache and self-condemned. However, as long as making Tom better even best, she is completely willing to do, because Tom is her whole. When Tom, Harper and Huck go to become pirates, town people think they may have an accident. And Tom secretly goes back home because of homesick, as it happens to hear talking and some narrative as following, “Not a word against my Tom, now that hes goneI dont know how to give him up! He was such a comfort to me, although he tormented my old heart out of meBut this memory was too much for the old lady, and she broke entirely down. Tom was snuffling, now, himselfand more in pity of himself than anybody elseHe began to have a nobler opinion of himself than ever before. Still, he was sufficiently touched by his aunts grief to long to rush out from under the bed and overwhelm her with joyand the theatrical gorgeousness of the thing appealed strongly to his nature, too, but he resisted and lay stillAunt Polly knelt down and prayed for Tom so touchingly, so appealing, and with such measureless love in her words and her trembling voice, that he was weltering in tears long before she was through.”(parts from the chapter fifteen). In this section of the content, it is really moving to me. Not only describing the pain, sadness, helpless and prayer of Aunt Polly, but also expressing the love of Tom to Aunt Polly. Tom looks at her crying and agony, and he knows such a sorrowful feeling for aunt, thus he cries at the same time. Whereas, Tom wants to get out from the under of bed to give a surprise for aunt, but he is not past himself and has grown up more as the result of the pirates life. This also proves Tom begins to be mature like a real man and keep calm to deal with things. It maybe comes to an agreement with Aunt Polly, which would like to make Tom understand the reason why aunt punish him again and again. And what it says above shows that Tom is trying to shoulder the responsibility. They love and care each other. If without any one for them, they may immerse in the miss and never forget. And in the following chapter, Tom reports the real murder and finds out the treasure with Huck. I deeply feel that Aunt Polly is proud of Tom. A brave boy like this is admired by everyone. From this novel, there are many good points to say, but the most important one which is impressed on me is the love of Tom and Aunt Polly. I think that is the greatest thing of the life. They tightly get together because of life. That emotion must be got and collected by us. So I think of my own life and my childhood. Similarly, I have the nice childhood and do the things as Tom. That is the most unforgettable present for me. We
