Ability aims:Learn to talk about problems and give advice.C. Morality aims:1. Deal with the problems calmly and wisely.2. Be ready to help others with their problems. Key and difficult points:A. Key points: the usage of the modal should / could. B. Difficult points: Talk about problems and give advice using the target language. Teaching methods: The situation teaching approach, Audio-lingual method and task-based approach. Learning methods Cooperative learning, autonomous learning. Teaching aids: A multimedia computer, tape. Teaching procedures:Step 1 Greeting and lead in1. The teacher and the students greet each other.2 .Lead in and learn the key words and expressions. Step 2 Presentation1. Present a chart as follows with a multimedia computer:ProblemsAdvice1. I dont get enough sleep.2. I dont have enough money.3. My parents dont allow me to go out every night.You should go to sleep earlier .You can have a part-time job.You can talk with your parents. Then ask the students to tell you what they could do about it.Step 3 Listening practice Play the recording (1b) the first time for the students to listen and circle the problems they hear. Then check the answers in class. Step 4 Pair workLet students use the information in 1a to make their conversation in pairs according to 1c. Make sure they can give by using “Why dont you?.”Then call some pairs to act out their conversations in class.Step 5 Discussion 1. Divide the students into groups of four and then ask the students the problem: I have a friend called Peter, he argued with his best good friend last night. Can you give him some advice? And let the student discuss the problem and give some advice. A: He could write a letter to his friend.B: He should call him up.C: He should say hes sorry.D: He could go to his friends house.2. Then tell the students the usage of the modal should / could. Step6 Listening practice1. Play the recording (2a) for the class to listen. Tell the students that Peter has some problems and his friend is giving him some advice and have students try filling in the blanks with “could” or “should”.2. Play the recording (2b) for the class to listen and check how many they have matched correctly. Then check the answers. Step 7 Pair work1. Have students read the conversations between Peter and his friend in 2c first. Then work in pairs to make a conversation according to 2a and 2b. 2. Then talk with the students about how to give advice using the target language . A: Whats wrong/ Whats the matter?B: I have to study too much so I dont get enough sleep.A: You should go to sleep early this evening. / Why dont you go to sleep early this evening?Step 8 Consolidation 1. First let students role-play the conversation in 2d in groups and choose the best one, and let students discuss the language points and solve the problems in groups, then the teacher explains the key phrases and sentences.2. Let the students do some exercises so that they can say the target language correctly and fluently.Step 9 SummaryHave the class sum up what they have learned in the period.T: We may have lots of problems in our life. When Peter has a problem, he will ask his friend for help. Then when you have a problem, will you ask your friend for help? Friends are important for us. So I will give you a proverb about friends : A friend in need is a friend indeed.
