Teaching procedureStep 1.Lead in Let students watch a video. Teacher asks “What can we do with the broom?” Students answer “Sweep the floor.” T: Do you often help your parents do chores? Maybe some of you often do chores at home. I know that Liu Junjie and Tang Yuwei like doing chores. Lets play a guessing game and guess what chore they are doing.Step2. A guessing gameThe teacher will show them some pictures, the teacher asks the questions with“What is he/she doing?” so the teacher can show new phrases such as clean the room, do the dishes etc. This activity can let student remember the new words and phrases and improve the atmosphere of classStep 3. 1a Pair work Teacher asks: Do you do these chores at home? You have one minute to discuss them with your partner and write down your partners results beside each phrase using these letters. “O= often; S= sometimes; N= never”. Step 4. 1b Listen Teacher says: Look at this picture. Will Peter take out the rubbish? How do you know? Students answer: There are some chores in the table. T: Who will do these chores, Peters mother or Peter? Now listen to the tape and check Peters mother or Peter. You should tell us your answers with sentences. For example: Peters mother does the dishes. Teacher: Listen again and fill in the blanks. There are two questions and answers in this conversation. Can you find them? Ss: Teacher: We can find that the sentence structure “could you please do sth. can be used to make polite requests. If you accept, you can say “Yes, sure./All right./No problem./ Certainly./Of course./OK.”. And if you refuse, you can say “Sorry, I cant. Youd better give a reason. For example: I have to do sth. Please fill in the blanks.Step5. 1c Make a pairwork using sentences with “could you please.?Read 1c together and let students make a pairwork.Step6. Listen 2a-2b.Teacher: Look at the picture, questions and blanks in 2a on page 18, then answer the questions. What does Peter want to do? Ss: T: Peter asks his father if he can do four things. What does his father say? Check yes or no. and draw lines to the reason if his father says no. There are three sentence structures “Could I do sth.?”and their answers in this conversation. Can you find them? Ss: T:So we can use the structure Could I do sth. to ask for permission. And the answer can be” Yes, you can. No, you cant”. Now lets fill in the blanks. Step7. 2c PairworkAsk and answer with their partners, first the teacher should give students an example ,then they can talk freely with the pictures .Step8. 2d listen and role playTeacher: One day the mom will come back home very soon. And the sister and brother are talking about doing chores. Listen to the tape and finish the following exercises. Listen to the tape again and students read it in the heart silently. Then boys play brother, and the girls play sister. Let students role play the conversation.Step9.Show timeTeacher: Now lets make a pair work. Your partner and you are the sister and brother. You can make a new conversation or just copy the conversation in 2d. You have two minutes to prepare for it.
