Unit 6 How long have you been collecting shells? The first period ( Section A 1a-2c) Teaching aims:(1)Knowledge aimsa. vocabulary: collect ,shell ,marathon,skate, since.(this period doesnt have too many new words. There are only six.they are ., and the usage of them isnt too difficult.)b. Structure : how long have people been doing things.c. Grammar: Present Perfect progressive (2) Ability Aims Talk about hobbies. Talk about how long people have been doing things . To encourage the students to practice, participate and co-operate in the classroom activities. (3) Emotional Aims To encourage the students to take an active part in all kinds of fun activities. III Important and difficult points The important points are the target words, the target language and the Present Perfect progressiveThe difficult points are how to get the students use this tense correctly and the usage of the word “since”and for IV Teaching Method Analysis and Teaching Aids Teaching Method Analysis: Communicative teaching Approach and Task-based Teaching Approach are to be used in the course of this lesson, and Ill try my best to limit TTT, that is Limit Teacher Talking Time and increase STT (Student Talking Time).So during this lesson, emphases are to be laid on:1. Student-centered teaching2. Activity-based teaching (individual work, pair work, group work, class work). Teaching Aids: Multi-media V Analysis of students and Learning Method To deal with all above, the students must have a good preview and they must take an active part in the class activities and co-operate the tasks by using target language. My students come from country.Learning a foreign language is quite difficult for them.They are very sensitive.They are afraid of making mistakes and being laughed by others. Most students always keep silence in class.So during my class I will give them more confidence and encouragement.Now, Ill mainly talk about next part, that is VI Teaching ProcedureStep 1. Warm-up & Lead in (2m) Play a piece of music sung by Jackie Chan, help students relaxed. Meanwhile lead in the new lesson.Step 2 Presentation (12m)Introduce a movie star : Jackie Chen.he is a famous actor. He has been acting for 51years. He has been acting since 51 years ago.He has been acting since1961. He has been acting since he was 7 years old. Teach new word since. Let students pay attention to has been acting“since”and for.So the students meet the Present Perfect Progressive Tense in such an easy way. Next present the important points of the present perfect progressive to students. Have them read and recite. Then show some pictures, let students make conversations using the present perfect progressive. During the practice, teach new word collect shell. Show students a way of memorizing words- associative memory Show a time line on the screen with some information about Yao Mings and Jackie Chans life. Then explain the differences between the simple past tense and the present perfect progressive . (The purpose of the presentation:Students are interested in famous peoples things. So Im sure they will listen to my explanation carefully. Meanwhile, they will learn the target languages insensibly. The simple past tense and the present perfect progressive run through the practice. After the above presentation, students will know the form and usage of the present perfect progressive; the differences between the simple past tense and present perfect progressive; how to change “for” form into “since”. They are all key points.)Step 3 Pair work 1a (5m)Use target languages to make sentences . Lead in 1a by asking questions.For example: When did you start leaning English? How long have you been learning English?Ask: Are you interested in learning English? What else would you like to do ?Do you like skating? Lead in 1a naturally . Teach new word skate.(skate is a verb, and its also a noun. Its a countable noun. Its plural form,plus s directly.Eg, a pair of skates. As a verb, we should pay attention to its ing form, we should delete e .Introduce something about skating marathon. Step 4 Listening (8m) 1b .say :do you want to watch a skating marathon.? Lets go . Look! Some students are skating in a skating marathon. (show the picture . Learn the picture with students. Introduce the participants and whats happening. )A reporter is talking to the participants. Please listen carefully and then fill in the chart below. (show the chart, explain we should write sentences to answer the two questions:how long have. been skating? How long did.skate?)Step 5. Pair work (5m)1.Give students time to practice the target languages. Ss are supposed to use the information of 1b. Like this :A: how long has .been skating?B:.A: how long did .skate?B:.(the purpose is to test whether theyve master the target language )2. read the listening text .(reading it is preparing for the following practice)Step 6. A game: Guess hobbiesAsk several students to stand in front of the blackboard. show their hobbies by actions. the others guess.They guess by asking questions: Like this: A: what are you doing? Are you swimming? B:Yes/No A: when did you start swimming? B:I start swimming A:How long have you been swimming? B: .(students take an interest in their classmates hobbies. They will like this game. Try their best to find the others hobbies. Through the game , practice the target language.)Step 7 Group work(10m)Role play. Interview your classmates. The interview should include the following questions? Then give a small report.What sports do you play?When did you start playing?How long have you been ing?Role play the interview. Like this:A: Ye Lan, what sport do you play? B: Tennis. A: When did you start? B: When I was eleven. A: So how long have you been playing? B: Three and a half years. A: . Report: Ye Lan likes tennis.She started playing tennis when she was 11 years old. She has been playing tennis for three and a half years. Have a few groups of students to show their conversations and their report.(to train students speaking and writing skills by using the target langue)Step 8 exercises in class .Consolidate practice .(3 m)Step 9 Summary and classroom assessment (5m) 1 Ask the Ss to summarize the key points of this lesson by themselves. If necessary, Ill give them some help.(students can know what they have learned in this class) 2.Choose whos the student. Give them a small present.( can improve ss interest .they can take an active part in classroom activities) the best actor xxx the most active xxx the most creative xxx Assignment At the end of this lesson, Ill give the Ss such an assignment:Suppose youre a reporter of CCTV-9,youve going to interview Yao Ming, please write a short report
